Chapter 559 Revenge

That noon, Susan and Isabella were having lunch at a fast food restaurant near their office.

Isabella was eating heartily, while Susan seemed to have no appetite at all.

Seeing Susan's state, Isabella couldn't help but ask, "What's been going on with you lately? You look so down every day. Haven't you and Seb made up yet?"

Susan forced a smile and said, "He's not in Maple Valley."

"Not in Maple Valley? Is he on a business trip?" Isabella asked.

Susan replied, "He's gone on a long trip."

"A long trip? Leaving the company, you, and the kids behind for a trip? Did something happen to him?" Isabella rolled her eyes.

Despite Isabella's usual impatience, she guessed correctly.

But this wasn't something Susan could explain to her, so she said, "Yes, he was upset."

"Really? What upset him? What could possibly upset Seb?" Isabella pressed.

Susan had no choice but to say, "His parents are getting a divorce, and he's very troubled."

"A divorce? At their age? Those rich people are something else. What are they thinking? Why are they getting a divorce?" Isabella asked.

Susan replied perfunctorily, "They just don't get along."

Isabella shook her head. "Well, that explains it."

At that moment, Susan's phone rang urgently.

She took out her phone and saw it was Catherine calling, so she quickly answered.

"Mom?"

"Susan, are you busy right now? If not, can you come over?" Catherine's voice sounded unusually tense.

Hearing this, Susan immediately asked anxiously, "Mom, what's wrong?"

"I..." Catherine was too anxious to speak clearly.

"I'll be right there!" Susan said, already standing up and grabbing her bag.

Seeing Susan leave in such a hurry, Isabella called after her, "What's wrong with Catherine? Should I come with you?"

"No need, we have clients this afternoon. Keep an eye on the office!" Susan said without looking back and hurried off.

Isabella shook her head, feeling that Susan had been quite unlucky lately.

When Susan arrived, panting, at Dorothy's door, she was stunned by the scene before her!

As soon as she got off the elevator, she was hit by a foul smell. The walls, the door, and the hallway were covered in feces.

Susan felt nauseous.

As if on cue, the neighbor from across the hall emerged, pinching her nose with disgust. "What in the world happened here?" she shrieked. "Did you offend someone? This is disgusting! Clean this mess up immediately!"

Hearing this, Susan frowned and quickly said, "I'm sorry, I'll get someone to clean it up right away!"

The neighbor, hearing this assurance, retreated into their apartment and closed the door.

Susan, holding her breath, quickly knocked on the door.

She was very worried. What had happened here? And what about her mom? Her voice had sounded so strange on the phone...

"Mom, it's me, Susan. Open the door!" After a long time with no response, Susan anxiously shouted.

Finally, someone inside must have heard her, and the door was quickly opened from the inside.

"Susan." As soon as she saw Susan, Catherine started crying.

At that moment, Catherine's clothes were covered in feces and urine, and she looked very distressed. The whole house reeked.

Seeing Catherine like this, Susan's eyes filled with tears. She quickly entered, grabbed Catherine's hand, and asked, "Mom, what happened?"

Catherine, tears streaming down her face and trembling all over, said, "I was followed when I came back from grocery shopping. They threw feces on me and threatened me, saying I was a dirty woman and deserved this."

By this point, Catherine was sobbing uncontrollably.

Hearing this, Susan frowned. She thought, 'It must be Carol who sent someone to do this. Mom had never made enemies with anyone, and those insults were clearly directed at her.'

Seeing Catherine's haggard appearance, Susan didn't dare say much. She quickly said, "Mom, take off your clothes and throw them away, then take a shower. I'll help you!"

With that, Susan led Catherine to the bathroom.

Half an hour later, Susan came out of the bathroom, exhausted.

Catherine was soaking in the tub, feeling much better. Susan quickly called a cleaning service to clean the hallway.

Once everything was arranged, and Catherine had finished her bath, Susan let her rest in her room.

At that moment, Catherine's phone rang.

Susan reached for the phone on the bedside table.

But Catherine quickly snatched it away.

Seeing Susan's puzzled look, Catherine quickly said, "I thought it might be Todd calling."

With that, Catherine answered the phone.

Susan watched as her mother answered the call, her demeanor a mixture of hope and trepidation. It was clear that despite everything, Catherine still harbored deep feelings for Todd. But their situation was complicated, to say the least. Until Todd and Carol were officially divorced, their relationship had to remain hidden from the world.

At that moment, Catherine's hand holding the phone started to tremble, and her expression grew increasingly distressed.

Susan frowned and was about to ask what was wrong when Catherine suddenly threw the phone onto the bed and backed away, saying, "What is this? What is this?"

Hearing this, Susan suspiciously picked up the phone and put it to her ear, her face turning pale.

The phone was playing funeral music, a sound that immediately evoked bad thoughts.

Susan knew it was a prank and shouted into the phone, "Who are you? What do you want?"

But the other end quickly hung up.

Susan frowned deeply, staring at the phone in her hand. She knew this was all orchestrated by Carol.

At that moment, Catherine came over, grabbed Susan's arm, and said, pale-faced, "Susan, who did this? Is it Carol trying to get back at me?"

Seeing Catherine's panicked expression, Susan could only comfort her, "Mom, don't worry. She's just playing pranks. She won't really do anything to you. The main thing is for you to stay calm, okay?"

"I'm so scared right now, and Dorothy is in Averlake," Catherine said, frowning.

Hearing this, Susan thought for a moment and said, "Why don't you move in with me?"
