Chapter 1320 Do You Want to Reclaim Me?
The two of them sized each other up for a moment before Daryl broke the silence. "Looks like you're doing pretty well here."
As he spoke, Daryl glanced around the clean, freshly decorated café, then back at Cecilia.
He hadn't seen her in a year and a half. Not only had she cut her hair, but she had also gained some weight. It seemed she was living well here, unlike him, who had been mired in gloom and discontent.
"Not bad," Cecilia nodded.
A year and a half had passed, and he seemed even more sullen than before, but also more mature. His every move exuded the charm of a grown man.
At this moment, Cecilia felt a wave of anxiety.
He had found her. Did he know about Thaddeus?
She knew Daryl's temper. If he found out about Thaddeus, he would stop at nothing to determine if Thaddeus was his son. If confirmed, he would undoubtedly take Thaddeus away.
The thought made Cecilia's heart race with panic.
Maybe it was the nerves, but Cecilia touched her short, ear-length hair.
To Daryl, this gesture seemed like a sign of guilt. He smirked, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Elijah is very cautious. I had someone tail him for a long time. He never flies directly to this city; he always detours on business trips and then takes other transportation to get here. But no matter how clever he is, I still found you!"
As Cecilia heard this, her brow furrowed in concern. So, Elijah's visit to the café earlier had been noticed by him.
Cecilia was no longer surprised that Daryl had found her. Instead, she was worried, afraid that Daryl would discover Thaddeus.
Daryl's expression grew darker as he noticed Cecilia's silence. "Elijah hid you well. He must visit once a month, right? Your relationship seems stable. Over the past year and a half, Elijah has turned down every woman introduced to him. He must be really devoted to you!"
Cecilia couldn't help but retort angrily, "It's been a year and a half. I thought you might have figured things out by now. Clearly, I overestimated you!"
She felt both furious and wronged. Over the past year and a half, she had been alone in this unfamiliar city, carrying Thaddeus to term and giving birth to him. Now, she was raising him alone while managing the café. All her hardships were met with his sarcasm, and time hadn't calmed him down. He still believed she had an improper relationship with Elijah.
At this moment, Cecilia thought, 'Leaving is the right choice. Otherwise, I wouldn't have known what might have happened. Thaddeus might not have been born safely.'
"After you got together with Elijah, there was no place for me in your heart, right? So, nothing about me is worth your admiration anymore?" Daryl sneered.
Cecilia felt a surge of anger but was too exhausted to argue. Arguing would prove futile.
She didn't bother explaining. Even if she did, he wouldn't listen.
So, the next moment, Cecilia said directly, "Daryl, did you come all this way just to throw some insults at me?"
Daryl's smirk deepened as he stared at the matcha cake and coffee in front of him. "You'd rather make cakes and brew coffee here than come back to me, waiting for Elijah's monthly visits. So, you're set on being with Elijah, right?"
Cecilia felt a mix of emotions. Why had they come to this point? Why wouldn't he calmly listen to her? Was their love not deep enough, or did they not understand or trust each other enough?
Cecilia knew it was pointless to dwell on these questions. A year and a half, and he still hadn't figured it out. More time wouldn't change anything.
So, the next moment, Cecilia frowned and said, "Daryl, how I choose to live my life is my business. I don't owe you an explanation, do I?"
"Don't forget, you're still my wife. Is it right for you to do this while we're still married?" Daryl's voice rose involuntarily.
Cecilia rubbed her face in frustration, then asked, "Daryl, we need to resolve this. Do you have an answer?"
She realized he was still maintaining his composure. In the past, he would have barged in while Elijah was here and dragged her away.
Daryl heard this and his eyes locked onto Cecilia's, filled with complexity.
Meeting his gaze, Cecilia knew he was also struggling inside.
Finally, Daryl spoke. "If you come back to me and cut all ties with Elijah, I can pretend none of this ever happened."
Cecilia stared at Daryl in shock, feeling a lump in her throat.
The next moment, she suddenly laughed.
"What are you laughing at?" Seeing her laugh so hard, Daryl's face darkened even more.
Cecilia stopped laughing and said, "Daryl, where did your pride and arrogance go? Didn't you accuse me of having an affair with your brother? And now you want to take me back? Should I be grateful, weeping with gratitude for your generosity and forgiveness?"
Cecilia's sharp gaze pierced Daryl. Her heart felt like it was being torn apart, a pain only she knew.
At this moment, Daryl had not only insulted her but also himself.
Cecilia's words hit Daryl hard. The veins on his forehead bulged, and his hands clenched into fists, knuckles cracking.
"So, you're determined to stay with Elijah?" Daryl asked through gritted teeth after a while.
Cecilia turned away, not wanting to look at him anymore. Despite her longing for him over the past year and a half, she had hoped he would understand. Now, it seemed that was just a fantasy.
