Chapter 1193 Gratitude

"Really, I swear," Cecilia said.

Marcella smiled and then seriously said, "Honestly, if you have no feelings for your CEO ex-boyfriend, then Barry is a good choice. He comes from a wealthy family, is handsome, has his own career, and most importantly, he's always been so good to you. You must seize this opportunity!"

Cecilia smiled helplessly. "I think you find everyone is a great choice."

"I'm serious, both of them are top choices. Oh, why can't I meet even one of them?" Marcella lamented, pounding her chest in frustration.

Seeing Marcella's expression, Cecilia couldn't help but shake her head and smile.

Marcella wasn't wrong. Barry was indeed a great choice. Setting aside his family background and looks, Barry's unwavering passion for her over the years and his integrity were truly commendable.

Returning to her seat, Cecilia looked down at the bouquet of roses in the vase on the corner of the table and felt a pang of sadness.

Although Barry had kept his promise since that time and hadn't confessed his feelings again or even said he liked her, Cecilia could still feel his care for her.

He was indeed very good, a man worth spending a lifetime with, but she just didn't feel that heart-fluttering spark for him.

The ringing of her phone interrupted Cecilia's thoughts.

She picked up the phone and saw that it was Barry calling.

In the past few days, with Barry's company, her mood had indeed improved a lot, so she was very grateful to him and willing to spend time with him because she would overthink when she was idle.

"Barry?" Cecilia quickly answered the phone.

"Do you have any plans for tonight?" Barry asked over the phone.

"A bit tired, I want to go home and rest," Cecilia replied, rubbing her shoulder.

Barry gently said, "You still need to eat. How about we grab a quick meal, and then I'll take you home, okay?"

"Sure," Cecilia smiled and then hung up the phone.

Barry was very understanding and never clingy. When she said she was tired, he would thoughtfully let her go home and rest, which made Cecilia feel very comfortable.

At the end of the workday, Cecilia opened the drawer and noticed the box of instant coffee inside.

This box of coffee was a gift from a colleague a few days ago, and Cecilia had put it in the drawer.

Seeing the box of coffee today, Cecilia couldn't help but think of what Barry had said to her in the car a few days ago.

He had asked when it would be appropriate to go to her place for coffee, and Cecilia had made an excuse, saying she would wait until she bought some coffee.

Cecilia hesitated for a moment when she saw the box of coffee, then took it out of the drawer and put it in her handbag.

When she reached the lobby on the first floor, she suddenly received a call from Barry. He said he was stuck in traffic and asked her to wait for a few minutes downstairs.

So she wasn't in a hurry and leisurely walked out of the office building.

Standing at the intersection, Cecilia stared at the endless stream of cars in a daze.

Unexpectedly, when she casually looked up, a familiar figure suddenly came into view.

He was standing in front of his black Mercedes, his eyes directed toward her. Cecilia was sure he had seen her, and she was stunned.

They were about 90 feet apart. Although he looked fine, Cecilia could see that he had lost weight, which was not surprising given that a stomach bleed would certainly make someone lose weight.

At that moment, a young lady approached Daryl's side, and it seemed as if Daryl didn't even notice Cecilia, engrossed in a lively conversation with the young woman.

The woman was tall and stylishly dressed, always enthusiastic towards Daryl, almost leaning into him despite being in public. Daryl didn't seem to mind her affection; he seemed to enjoy it, which made the woman feel flattered.

Cecilia frowned and looked away.

She felt discomfort in her heart but told herself, 'We have nothing to do with each other now, and he can be with whoever he wants!'

Barry's car finally arrived. He stopped the car in front of Cecilia, leaned out of the window, and smiled, "Get in!"

"Okay." Cecilia forced herself not to look back and got into the passenger seat, opening the door and getting in.

Then Barry drove away.

Daryl watched as Cecilia got into Barry's car and left, feeling utterly dejected.

"Mr. Fields?" the young woman asked, seeing Daryl's distracted look.

Daryl immediately put on a stern face. "Sorry, I have something to do, excuse me!"

The young woman, who had been overjoyed just a moment ago, was now in a panic at Daryl's sudden change in demeanor. "Mr. Fields, did I say something wrong to upset you?"

Daryl had no time to care about her pitiful look. He turned and got into the car. After Douglas closed the door, he took the driver's seat, ignoring the young woman's incessant questions, and drove away!

Douglas understood Daryl's intentions, keeping a considerable distance from Barry's car while still keeping them in sight.

After more than half an hour, seeing Cecilia and Barry walk into a restaurant, Douglas finally turned off the engine.

Seeing Daryl frowning in the rearview mirror, Douglas finally gathered the courage to ask, "Mr. Fields, why didn't you say something to Miss Thorne just now? Maybe if you had gone over, she wouldn't have gone to dinner with Barry."

Douglas's words only made Daryl more agitated.

He tugged at his tie and said irritably, "Why has she been spending so much time with Barry lately?"

"That must be because Barry is persistent with Miss Thorne," Douglas answered cautiously, seeing Daryl's bad mood.

"Douglas, do you think they're together?" After a while, Daryl suddenly asked, looking lost.

"Well, that can't be true, right?" Even if Douglas thought so, he wouldn't dare say it.

Daryl, usually confident and able to handle any complex situation quickly, was very different today.
