Chapter 501 Affection
When Isabella heard that, she whipped around, eyes wide, staring at Susan like she just saw a ghost.
Susan couldn't help but laugh. "Chill, girl. Leon ain't some wild animal. Why you so jumpy?"
Isabella tried to pull herself together, looking all flustered. "I'm not jumpy! Just a bit... uneasy, that's all."
Susan knew Isabella had a thing for Leon, and seeing her bestie all worked up made her feel kinda bad too. She'd been trying to play matchmaker, but Leon just wasn't into Isabella.
So, Susan threw out a suggestion, "If it's bugging you that much, why not let Maria take your spot?"
Isabella suddenly straightened up, all defiant. "No. I don't care who the best man is. What's important is you're getting hitched, and I'm your maid of honor, no question. Plus, I'm waiting for Seb to send me some cash. No way I'm letting someone else snag this chance."
With that, she spun around and walked out.
Susan couldn't help but grin.
The next day, Susan was on pins and needles waiting for Seb to get back.
After dinner, she put Spring to bed early, told Hayden a story, and got him to sleep too.
Upstairs, Susan made a call. Seb's end was noisy; he said he was out having dinner with his inspection team and would be home after.
Susan quickly got her bath and skincare routine done, and by ten, she was lying in bed in a lace-trimmed nightgown.
Waiting was a drag. She waited forever, but Seb still didn't show. Eventually, she dozed off watching TV.
By the time Seb finally got home, she was out cold and didn't hear a thing.
When Susan woke up, she blinked her eyes open and noticed the bedroom lights were off, and the TV was off too.
She felt an arm around her waist. Turning her head, she saw Seb lying next to her in the moonlight.
The soft glow lit up his handsome face, and Susan was surprised. When did he get back? How did she not hear him?
Just as she was feeling annoyed, his deep voice broke the silence. "You're awake?"
Susan sat up in surprise and reached for the bedside lamp, casting a dim light in the room.
"When did you get back?" she asked, looking at him.
Seb reached for the watch on the bedside table, glanced at it, and said, "Got home at eleven. It's been three hours now."
Hearing that, Susan ran a hand through her hair and complained, "You've been back that long, and you didn't wake me? I waited for you all night!"
Seb's lips curled into a playful smile. "When I got back, you were out like a light. I moved you to the other side of the bed, and you didn't even stir. Susan, is this what you call waiting for me all night?"
"I really did wait for you all night. It's just... it got boring, and I got tired, so I fell asleep." Susan pouted, looking down, too embarrassed to meet his eyes. She was super annoyed with herself for dozing off.
She sighed to herself. She'd spent over an hour in the bathroom, bathing and doing her skincare routine, and picked out this sexy lace nightgown just to welcome him. And now, it felt like a total waste.
In the dim light, Seb's eyes roamed over Susan, and he flashed a mischievous grin.
He reached out, pinched her chin, and lifted her face. "Haven't seen this nightgown before."
"The last time you had the department store send clothes, I picked this one. Do I look good?" Susan smiled at him.
Seb's eyes lit up with a spark. "The nightgown's nice."
"You..." Susan was about to get mad.
He pulled her into a hug and added, "But you're even nicer!"
Hearing this, Susan smiled, wrapped her arms around his neck, and lifted her chin. "That's more like it!"
Seb lowered his head, sniffing her smooth neck, his breath hot against her ear. "This body wash smells good."
"What? That's my natural scent!" Susan corrected him with a laugh.
Seb frowned playfully and then rubbed his face against her body.
Susan, ticklish, curled up and laughed uncontrollably. "What are you doing?"
He raised his hand and answered seriously, "I'm smelling your natural scent."
"Get away!" Susan tried to push him off.
But it was too late. He pressed her down and had his way with her...
When everything calmed down, it was an hour later.
Susan lay quietly in Seb's arms, her eyes gazing at the moonlight outside the window, chatting with him on and off.
"Doesn't Prosperity Group have a ton of employees? Why do you insist on having Leon as the best man?" Susan asked.
Seb's fingers brushed over her smooth skin. "Leon’s the guy I trust the most. Over the years, our relationship has gone way beyond just boss and employee. So, at the most important moment of my life, of course, I want him involved. Why, is there a problem?"
Hearing this, Susan quickly shook her head. "No, I'm just worried Isabella might feel uneasy."
Seb knew about Susan's failed matchmaking attempt with Isabella and Leon. He thought Isabella knew Susan was trying to set her up.
So, he said, "Nowadays, even divorced people can be friends. What's a failed matchmaking attempt? I don't think Isabella is as petty as you."
"Who are you calling petty?" Susan immediately turned over and asked.
Seb changed the subject. "Did I say you?"
"You did! I heard you just now." Susan lay on top of him, questioning.
Seb laughed. "You are petty. When we broke up, you treated me like an enemy and couldn't even be friends!"
"You were the petty one! You wouldn't let me go after we broke up. If I stayed friends with you, who knows what you'd do to me!" Susan immediately retorted.
"That's because I couldn't let you go." As Seb said this, his hands tightened around her waist.
Hearing this, Susan's earlier annoyance instantly vanished, replaced by a soft heart that was about to melt.
"Really?" Although Susan believed this in her heart, she still wanted to ask.
