Chapter 901 Secret Crush
When Isabella heard that, she blurted out, "Wait, someone's actually allergic to coffee?"
"Yeah. You got his pants dirty. Of course, he's gonna be a bit mad. Seriously, you're pushing it," Susan chuckled.
"I just couldn't stand his smug attitude," Isabella grumbled.
Susan shrugged. "From what I know, Leon's pretty low-key. Look at his time at Prosperity Group. Tons of women have shown interest, but he keeps his distance. No scandals, nothing. That says a lot about him."
Susan added, "Hey, you're thirty and still haven't had a serious boyfriend. I think Leon's a good catch. Want me to set you up?"
Isabella shook her head. "Leon? No way. Even if I stay single forever, I wouldn't go for him."
Susan sighed. "You really don't see it, do you? Leon's top-notch. Among all the single women at Prosperity Group, if they don't admire Seb, they admire Leon."
"So what? I'm not interested," Isabella insisted.
Realizing she couldn't convince her, Susan just shook her head and smiled.
But ever since that chat, Isabella couldn't get Leon out of her mind.
She didn't know why, but whenever she had a moment to herself, Leon's face would pop up.
At first, she thought it was just anger, that Leon had really gotten under her skin.
But later, it felt different. She actually wanted to see him.
Thanks to Susan, sometimes Isabella would catch a glimpse of Leon from a distance.
Whenever she saw him, she felt a mix of excitement and nerves. She'd quickly leave or hide.
But once he was gone, she'd miss him.
Isabella couldn't figure herself out.
One time while shopping, she randomly bought a pair of men's pants, in Leon's size.
She felt like she was losing it.
She stashed the pants in her file cabinet for days, sneaking peeks and hoping no one would notice.
Isabella had never been in a relationship, but she realized she might have fallen for Leon.
Leon was great in every way, but Isabella knew she didn't care about that. Logically, they had no real connection, just a couple of arguments. She couldn't understand why she had feelings for him.
One time, Leon was asked by Seb to drop something off for Susan.
When Leon left, he glanced at Isabella but didn't say anything.
After he was gone, Isabella's heart raced.
In that moment, she made a decision.
When no one was looking, she quickly grabbed the bag with the pants from her cabinet and dashed out of the office.
She ran until she spotted Leon up ahead.
"Wait up!" Isabella yelled as she sprinted after him.
Leon stopped and turned around, seeing Isabella running towards him, out of breath.
He frowned as she approached.
Feeling a bit awkward, Isabella held out the bag. "This is for you."
"What?" Leon didn't take it, just glanced at the bag.
Seeing it was clothing, Leon's frown deepened. "What's this?"
Isabella felt even more awkward. "Remember when I messed up your pants? I'm giving you a new pair to make up for it. So, we're even, and you don't have to hold a grudge."
Leon felt his blood boil again. It was weird how a few words from Isabella could rile him up.
His face darkened. "I don't need it. I have more pants than I can wear. I wouldn't hold a grudge over something like that. I'm not the most forgiving guy, but I'm not as petty as you think!"
Isabella regretted her words as soon as she spoke. She bought the pants with good intentions, but her words came out all wrong.
"I..." she stammered, but seeing Leon's dark expression, she got mad too.
Even if her words were harsh, her intentions were good. And those pants cost a lot. She wouldn't even buy such expensive pants for herself.
"I already bought them. These are men's pants. I can't wear them. Just take them!" Isabella wanted Leon to accept her gesture.
But to Leon, her words sounded anything but kind.
"I don't 'make do' with my clothes. Besides, we're not close, and I don't want anything from you. Especially clothes. Plenty of women try to give me ties, shirts, belts, whatever. I know what they're up to. I've seen it all before!" Leon said, looking disdainful.
His words drove Isabella crazy. 'What does he mean? Is he saying I'm interested in him?'
She yanked the bag back and snapped, "Leon, you're full of yourself. I bought these pants to make up for dirtying yours. That's it. Even though I come from a humble background, I'm not interested in guys like you who are all show and no substance!"
"Now I see why you're thirty and still single," Leon sneered.
That hit a nerve. More than one person had mocked her for being thirty and single, calling her an old maid.
Isabella's anger flared. "Whether I get married or not is none of your business! You're meddling too much."
"Unbelievable!" Leon shook his head, not wanting to argue, and walked away.
Behind him, Isabella was fuming, cursing at his back.
