Chapter 265 Co-Parenting
Seeing Hayden's tear-streaked face, Susan was at a loss for words.
No matter how much she tried to comfort him, Hayden wouldn't budge.
Eventually, Hayden cried himself to sleep in Susan's arms.
She gently laid him on the bed, feeling a pang of sadness as she saw the tears still on his cheeks.
Susan wasn't going to call off her wedding with George because of Hayden, but his words had left a mark on her heart.
That evening, Susan got a call from Seb.
"Hello?" She recognized Seb's number even though she hadn't saved it.
Seb hesitated before saying, "Hayden's been with you for two days. I want to take him back for a bit."
Susan didn't want to part with Hayden, but she knew he wasn't solely hers. "I'll bring him over," she said.
"No need, it's inconvenient for you with Spring. I'll come pick him up," Seb replied.
"Okay," Susan agreed.
Just as she was about to hang up, Seb quickly added, "Wait, Susan, can I see Spring?"
Susan froze. Spring was a year old and had never met her father. Seb's request didn't surprise her. She couldn't deny Spring a father's love.
"Meet me at the park next to my building in half an hour. I'll bring Hayden and Spring down," Susan said.
"Okay," Seb replied, sounding excited.
"Goodbye," Susan uttered before hanging up.
Though she still resented Seb, the intense hatred had faded. Seb had endured a lot, cured Hayden's illness, and raised him well.
Even if she didn't hate Seb as much, she couldn't forgive everything he'd done. He had no right to make all the decisions, and she didn't agree with his actions.
Half an hour later, Susan held Hayden's hand while Serenity pushed Spring in a stroller as they made their way to the nearby park.
From a distance, Susan saw a figure waiting under a tree with yellow leaves.
Seeing Seb, Hayden broke free from Susan's hand and ran to him, shouting, "Daddy!"
Seb stepped forward, picked Hayden up, and spun him around. Hayden laughed joyfully.
Susan could see the strong bond between them. Hayden depended on Seb, and Seb loved Hayden dearly.
She took the stroller from Serenity and walked towards Seb and Hayden.
As the two years passed, it was difficult to ignore the subtle signs of aging that had touched Seb. The man who had once been exuberant now carried a demeanor of reserved maturity, his charm only deepening with time.
Seb had an allure that was hard to resist, but Susan knew getting close to him would only lead to heartbreak. She tried to control her emotions.
For the past two days, Susan kept reminding herself, "You're marrying George. Seb might be Hayden and Spring's dad, but George is your future."
When Seb saw Susan and Spring, he put Hayden down and walked over, holding Hayden's hand.
He glanced at Susan, then focused on Spring in the stroller.
Spring, in her pink jacket and bunny hat, looked around curiously, unaware of the situation.
Seb seemed emotional as he looked at Spring. He asked Susan, "Can I hold her?"
"Of course." Susan nodded.
Worried Seb might be too rough, Susan took Spring out of the stroller and gently handed her to him.
Seb carefully held Spring, his posture stiff due to a recent arm injury, afraid of dropping her or making her uncomfortable.
Spring babbled, and Seb pressed his cheek against her chubby face, looking deeply at her.
Susan saw excitement and deep fatherly love in Seb's eyes. This genuine love couldn't be faked, and it brought a lump to her throat.
Spring had never experienced Seb's love. She was innocent and unaware, but Susan, as a mother, felt the hardship.
Seeing Hayden and Spring healthy and happy, Susan felt content. They were her everything.
She wiped away a tear at the corner of her eye, only to be met with the delightful sound of Spring's laughter.
Seb was spinning Spring around, making her laugh. Though Susan felt scared with Seb's arm in a cast, she couldn't stop him because Spring was so happy.
Hayden stepped forward and raised his hands, signaling Seb to stop. "Daddy."
Seb held Spring close and asked Hayden, "Do you want me to spin you around too?"
Hayden shook his head and frowned. "Spring is young and delicate. What if you drop her? I'm different; I'm grown up and a man. I'm not afraid of falling!"
In response to Hayden's words, Susan smiled and gently shook her head.
Seb also smiled, nodding in understanding. "You make a good point. I'll be more careful with Spring from now on."
After the excitement, Spring, unfamiliar with Seb, reached out for Susan.
Susan took Spring from Seb and placed her back in the stroller.
She then said to Seb, "Let Hayden stay with you for a few days. I'll come to pick him up later."
Seb frowned and said, "Susan, can we talk?"
