Chapter 9
A black Bentley stretched out by the curb, with a towering office building looming ahead.
Morning rush hour had office workers hustling by.
Seb, lounging in the back seat, kept his eyes stared at the window.
His eyebrows twitched when a familiar figure came into view.
Susan, on her way to work, had ditched the high heels and makeup, going bare-faced and walking slower.
The doctor had warned her that the first three months were critical, and she needed to be extra careful to avoid a miscarriage.
Seb's gaze followed Susan as she walked past the Bentley, finally getting a good look at her.
That morning, he hadn't really seen her up close.
Seb noticed Susan looked even better in person—delicate skin, flowing hair, and clear, refined features. She wasn't a knockout, but she was definitely easy on the eyes.
Seb pursed his lips slightly, feeling pretty satisfied with the mother of his future child. Sure, Susan's personality could use a bit more gentleness, but that could be worked on.
A few days ago, Seb had been annoyed that Susan had taken his first time, but now he found himself more and more intrigued by her.
It must be because she was carrying his child, Seb reasoned.
After Susan walked away, Leon, sitting in the driver's seat, turned back and said, "Mr. Anderson, don't worry, I've arranged for someone to protect—"
"Drive," Seb cut him off, his face stern.
Leon immediately shut up, knowing he'd overstepped again.
That morning, as soon as Susan got to work, she heard her colleagues buzzing about new company perks.
"The company’s giving us free lunch now! I heard the food's top-notch. They even hired a new chef!" an excited female employee said.
Isabella smiled at Susan and said, "Perfect timing for you to get some good food."
Susan smiled and secretly touched her belly, thinking, 'Baby, no more awful packed lunches for us.'
At lunchtime, Susan and Isabella walked into the dining hall together.
Seeing the spread of delicious dishes, everyone's eyes lit up.
"What's gotten into the company? They're really splurging!" Isabella exclaimed.
"Let's grab our food," Susan said, giving Isabella a gentle nudge.
After getting their food, they found a spot to sit down and dig in.
Susan glanced at the food in front of Isabella and frowned, asking, "Why do I have this soup and no one else does?"
Isabella looked around and saw that no one else had it.
Turning back, Isabella made a pitiful face and said, "It must be Wendy looking out for you again. She's been so meek around you lately, she doesn't even dare to speak up."
"Get out of here," Susan laughed.
But she did find it odd. Wendy couldn't have suddenly changed her personality, could she?
"By the way, I heard a rumor," Isabella said mysteriously.
"What rumor?" Susan asked, curious.
"Promise you won't get mad," Isabella said hesitantly.
