Chapter 282 Blood Relation
"Spring, don't cry. How about we go out and play?" Seb cradled Spring, pacing around the small house.
Susan watched, surprised at Seb's gentle side. He had endless patience with Spring.
"Daddy," Spring mumbled, feeling comforted by Seb.
For the past two months, Seb had been visiting Spring weekly, bringing baby food and toys. Even though she was young, Spring knew who treated her well and started calling Seb "Daddy."
Compared to George, Spring seemed to prefer Seb, despite George's past affection. Maybe it was the blood connection that made the difference.
A small hand tugged at Susan's sleeve.
Susan looked down to see Hayden. "Mommy, is Spring being naughty? I'll be good. Don't be mad. I'll help you pack today."
Hayden, dressed like a little gentleman, turned and started packing items into a box.
As Hayden displayed his well-mannered behavior, Susan's anger melted away.
Watching Spring nestled in Seb's arms, Susan felt a pang of guilt.
It was common for kids to act up, refuse meals, or resist bedtime. Why was she losing her cool today?
Susan joined Hayden, squatting down to pack the items he placed in the box, sealing them with tape, and writing addresses.
The job was tedious and boring, but Susan had to persevere for a better life for herself and Spring.
Seb took Spring out to play, returning over two hours later.
The piles of goods were now neatly packed on the living room floor.
Hayden sat on a small stool, munching an apple, while Susan swept up the packing mess.
Seeing Spring asleep in Seb's arms, Susan quickly prepared the sofa bed with a pillow and blanket.
Seb gently placed Spring on the sofa bed, and Susan covered her with a thin blanket.
Both Seb and Susan bent over to look at Spring, then glanced at each other. Seb's eyes filled with warmth.
Feeling awkward, Susan quickly straightened up and continued sweeping.
"Daddy, want an apple?" Hayden offered his apple to Seb.
"No, thanks," Seb replied.
Susan glanced at the fruit plate on the coffee table. "There are freshly washed apples over there," she said stiffly.
Seb glanced at the apples on the coffee table, then at Susan still sweeping, and couldn't help but grin, showing his white teeth.
He walked over, picked up an apple, took a bite, and nodded. "Well, it tastes good!"
Hayden piped up, "Daddy's lying!"
Seb raised an eyebrow. "How am I lying?"
"Daddy hates apples. Every time I ask you to eat one, you refuse. You said you hate apples!" Hayden said.
Susan paused her sweeping.
Seb felt awkward and glared at Hayden. "Say that again, and see if I don't spank you!"
Hayden immediately ran to Susan, hugging her leg. "Mommy, Daddy wants to spank me."
"He dares?" Susan glared at Seb.
Hayden taunted, "Mommy said you dare?"
Seb raised his hand in a mock warning.
Seeing it was getting late, Susan said, "It's getting dark. Hayden can stay for the weekend. You should go back."
Seb hesitated, then stood up from the sofa bed. He glanced at the sleeping Spring and Hayden, who was still munching his apple. Seb cherished this warm moment but knew he couldn't stay long.
"Listen to Mommy and don't be naughty!" Seb told Hayden.
"Got it!" Hayden stood up, stomped his foot, and saluted.
Seb smiled and returned the salute, then walked towards the door.
Susan watched Seb and Hayden out of the corner of her eye. Their saluting was charming and funny. Though the father-son bond moved her, she kept a stern face. She and Seb were impossible anyway, but for Hayden and Spring's sake, she was willing to communicate calmly with him.
As Seb reached the door, he turned and glanced at the crowded house. The large sofa bed took up half the living room. The coffee table and TV cabinet were surrounded by packed parcels, and the balcony was piled high with goods. Spring's stroller, diapers, and toys were crammed into a corner. With Susan and Hayden, there was hardly any room left.
Seb, unable to contain his concern any longer, spoke up, "Susan, let me assist you in finding a larger place."
Susan's face darkened. "No need, thank you."
Seb had brought up this idea before, but Susan always cut him off before he could finish. She was determined to stand on her own and avoid relying on any man, particularly Seb. The last thing she wanted was to get involved with him.Susan's coldness made Seb angry. This time, he raised his voice.
