Chapter 899 Memories
Leon didn't see it coming when a girl crashed into him. The hit was pretty hard, so he figured she must be a bit reckless.
Isabella saw the mess she made with his papers scattered everywhere and was about to apologize. But then this well-dressed, handsome guy in front of her started talking all high and mighty.
Isabella wasn't the type to back down. So, naturally, she couldn't just let it slide.
Next thing you know, she's yelling at Leon, "You weren't watching where you were going and bumped into me! And now you're blaming me?"
Leon had started to chill out a bit when he realized it was a girl who bumped into him. But he didn't expect this delicate-looking girl to be so feisty, and it ticked him off.
"A girl like you, so aggressive and unreasonable, will never get married!" Leon snapped.
Isabella, already 26 and never having had a serious boyfriend, was weighed down by her family's burdens. When people found out she was from a rural area, with a deceased father and a mother who couldn't work, needing her to send money home every month, they would bail.
Leon’s words hit a nerve, and she shot back, "You might look good, but how can you be so mean? Watch your mouth!"
Leon had never argued with a woman before, but this fierce girl in front of him got him so riled up that he started arguing with her right there in public.
"I must be having the worst luck today, running into someone as fierce as you!" Leon blurted out.
Isabella was about to fire back when suddenly a few people gathered around, showing Leon a lot of respect.
"Mr. Johnson, what are you doing here?"
"Oh no, Mr. Johnson's documents are on the ground! Pick them up, don't lose a single page, be careful!"
More and more people started gathering, all bending down to pick up the papers.
Isabella was stunned. 'Mr. Johnson? Did I just mess with someone important?'
She looked around and saw that the people picking up the documents were all top executives from Prosperity Group.
Looking up, she saw Leon standing there, one hand in his pocket, with a slight smile, staring at her.
At that moment, Isabella was almost scared stiff by Leon's gaze.
Just then, someone tapped her shoulder.
Looking up, she saw her boss, Carter, standing in front of her.
Carter first greeted Leon, "Mr. Johnson!"
Leon glanced at Isabella and asked directly, "Is she one of your employees?"
"Yes, her name is Isabella," Manager Carter quickly nodded.
Hearing this, Leon smiled slightly and said coldly, "She's something else. She bumped into me and then blamed me."
Carter was shocked and quickly scolded Isabella, "What's wrong with you? Apologize to Mr. Johnson right now!"
"Mr. Johnson?" Isabella looked at Carter, totally confused.
Carter quickly whispered in her ear, "This is Leon, the special assistant to our Prosperity Group's president, Mr. Anderson. Are you trying to get yourself fired?"
Isabella was stunned. She had no idea she was dealing with Seb's right-hand man. At first, she thought, 'So what if he's the president's special assistant? I can always quit.'
But then she remembered her bedridden mom back home and her relatives who relied on her monthly support. She had no choice but to apologize.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Johnson. I didn't mean to bump into you!" Isabella stepped forward and bowed, trying to make amends.
Leon gave her a disdainful look and said, "As an employee of Prosperity Group, you need to work on your manners."
By now, a bunch of people had gathered up the scattered documents and handed them back to Leon.
Leon took the papers, smirked, and walked away with an air of superiority.
Watching him leave, Isabella couldn't help but mutter under her breath, "What's so great about him? You're the one who needs to work on your manners."
Carter, overhearing her, scolded harshly, "You dared to offend Mr. Johnson, Mr. Anderson's special assistant? Do you want to get us all in trouble? You don't care about your job, but I do!"
"I..." Isabella started to explain, but Carter stormed off, leaving her fuming.
Back at her desk, Isabella reflected on what happened. She knew she was partly to blame. She had bumped into Leon and scattered his documents. Even though his words were harsh, she should've apologized first.
Still, she didn't want to back down. During lunch, she sat with her best friend Susan, venting her worries. "Do you think Leon will get me fired? I can't lose this job. My family depends on me. If I don't send money back, my mom could starve!"
Seeing Isabella's worried face, Susan tried to comfort her. "Don't worry. I don't know Leon well, but he seems like a decent guy. He won't revenge you."
Isabella shot Susan a skeptical look. "Decent? He seems like a jerk to me!"
Susan smiled. "You just have a bias against him."
"He's just a special assistant, acting all high and mighty. When I make it big, I'll show him," Isabella said fiercely.
"Well, let's wait until you make it big," Susan laughed, shaking her head.
"You don't believe in me either," Isabella protested.
"It's not that I don't believe in you. I don't believe in myself either. Now, let's get back to work. If we don't, we won't even have food to eat, let alone make it big!" Susan said with a smile, diving back into her work.
Thinking about what Susan said, Isabella had no choice but to put away her complaints and get back to work.
