Chapter 671 Quarrel
Just as Susan was lost in thought, Isabella walked into her office carrying a lunchbox.
"Hungry? I brought you some food," Isabella said, placing the lunchbox in front of Susan.
"Thanks." To avoid suspicion, Susan opened it and took a few bites.
"I'm so sleepy. I'm going to rest outside for a bit," Isabella yawned and then turned to leave.
After Isabella left, Susan put down her spoon.
She had no appetite at all; she only ate a few bites to put on a show for Isabella. Now, the food tasted like sawdust, and she couldn't eat another bite.
Susan knew that Isabella and Dorothy had noticed her low spirits recently and were concerned about her. In order to avoid their nagging, Susan dumped the remaining food into the trash can and covered it with a lot of waste paper.
Sure enough, twenty minutes later, Dorothy knocked and walked in.
Seeing the empty lunchbox on the desk, Dorothy smiled and said, "Susan, you finished it all?"
"Yes," Susan nodded with a smile. "The sandwiches here are quite good."
"That's why there's always a line. I'll take out the trash," Dorothy said as she tidied up and took the trash out.
After Dorothy left, Susan leaned back in her swivel chair.
Keeping up appearances was exhausting, but she had to do it for the sake of those who cared about her.
A week later, Susan walked out of her office to get some water from the break room, just as the mailman arrived with the newspaper, handing it directly to her.
Glancing at the newspaper in her hand, Susan frowned.
It was news about Seb whisking Esme away on an extravagant vacation abroad. Recently, Seb had also thrown a lavish birthday party for Esme, inviting a who's who of the political and business elite. It was clear that Esme had become Seb's official girlfriend.
Seeing Susan staring at the newspaper in a daze, Isabella and Dorothy exchanged glances.
Then, Isabella walked over and glanced at the newspaper in Susan's hand, cursing, "These journalists are so irresponsible, writing nonsense. Don't believe these rumors!"
Susan casually tossed the newspaper onto a desk and said with a smile, "Although journalists do embellish, there's no smoke without fire."
"Susan," Isabella tried to console her.
But Susan said calmly, "We're divorced. It's normal for him to find someone else. Do you think I'd cry over it? I'm almost thirty-two, not a twenty-year-old girl. Don't worry, I won't do anything foolish."
Hearing this, Isabella looked at Susan with concern and said, "It's good that you think that way."
"What else can I think? Alright, let's get back to work. These news stories are just gossip for us to chat about," Susan said, glancing at the newspaper on the desk before turning back to her office.
Although she spoke lightly, it took Susan a while to calm herself down after returning to her office.
The next afternoon, Dorothy suddenly burst into Susan's office.
"What's wrong?" Seeing Dorothy's anxious expression, Susan frowned.
"Susan, you need to go check it out. Isabella went to the salon across the firm and got into a fight!" Dorothy said, panting.
Hearing this, Susan stood up abruptly and asked while walking out, "How did she get into a fight?"
Susan knew Isabella had a straightforward and quick temper, but she was also sensible. It was unlikely she'd get into a fight at a salon.
"Isabella got into a fight with Esme and Seb," Dorothy stammered.
Hearing this, Susan stopped in her tracks, turned to Dorothy, and asked in surprise, "Who did you say?"
"It's that Esme who's been quite famous in Maple Valley recently, and Seb," Dorothy replied.
Hearing this, Susan was shocked but understood what had happened. Seb and Esme must have gone to the salon, and Isabella ran into them.
Isabella must have been standing up for her, disliking them, and that's why she got into a fight with Esme and Seb.
Without thinking further, Susan hurried to the salon because Isabella was alone, while Seb and Esme were two people. Isabella would definitely be at a disadvantage.
When Susan walked into the salon, the luxurious lobby was already crowded with people. She saw two women in a heated argument.
"Who do you think you are? How dare you mess with me? Do you know who I am? Do you believe I can crush you like an ant?" Esme, wearing an orange-red dress, pointed arrogantly at Isabella.
But Isabella was not one to be trifled with.
Isabella brushed away Esme's pointing hand and said with her hands on her hips, "Don't point your finger at me. Everyone in Maple Valley knows what kind of person you are. You're just a gold-digging singer, aren't you?"
This immediately enraged Esme, who stomped her foot and shouted, "How dare you insult me? I'll sue you!"
"Go ahead, sue me. I know you have a rich man willing to pay your legal fees!" Isabella rolled her eyes at Seb, who was standing behind Esme.
"Seb, did you hear that? She insulted me. You have to stand up for me!" Esme turned and clung to Seb's arm.
Before Seb could speak, Isabella said coldly, "I thought you were something special, but it turns out you just rely on your lover to stand up for you!"
"Who are you calling a lover?" Esme was furious and stepped forward to confront her.
"Who else could it be? Aren't you his lover? What, did you two get married or something?" Isabella snorted.
At this moment, Seb noticed Susan had arrived. He stepped forward and pointed at Isabella, saying, "Show some respect!"
"So what if I don't?" Isabella, already resentful of Seb, retorted sharply.
"Then I'll teach you a lesson for Esme!" Seb's brows furrowed.
At this moment, a figure in a black suit stepped forward to block Seb.
Seeing Leon, Susan was taken aback and wondered what choice he would make between Isabella and Seb.
"Leon!" Isabella frowned upon seeing Leon, feeling a bit worried. She didn't want to cause trouble for him.
The next moment, Leon said to Seb, "Mr. Anderson, it's just a quarrel between two women. Let's not escalate the situation, shall we?"
