Chapter 1069 Admitting Defeat
That afternoon, as soon as school was out, Cecilia quickly walked out of the school with her backpack. After all, she had to make it to the dining table at home before noon.
These past few days, in order to keep Freya from coming upstairs to find her, Cecilia had racked her brains to find things for Freya to do, like buying groceries and making various foods for her. To be honest, she felt like she had gained some weight from all the eating.
"Cecilia!" Suddenly, someone called her name from behind.
Cecilia turned around to see Barry running towards her in the sunlight.
"Barry, what's up?" Seeing Barry again, Cecilia felt a bit pressured for some reason, maybe because Daryl had misunderstood them last time.
Barry smiled and said, "Are you free for lunch? We could discuss 'One Hundred Years of Solitude.' I've been reading it these past few days and have some new insights I'd like to share with you."
Hearing this, Cecilia frowned and declined. "Sorry, Barry, I have something to do at noon today. I must go home."
Barry was very disappointed by Cecilia's refusal, but he still responded gentlemanly, "No problem, we can discuss it next time."
"Okay." Cecilia smiled and was about to leave.
But Barry suddenly called out to her again, "Cecilia!"
Cecilia looked at Barry in confusion.
At this moment, Barry took a book out of his backpack and handed it to Cecilia. "This is a book of critiques on 'One Hundred Years of Solitude' that I had someone buy in Luminara. It's quite famous there and contains many insightful viewpoints. It's worth a read."
Cecilia took the book from Barry's hand, glanced at the cover, and smiled. "Thank you."
"Cecilia, please read it carefully when you get home!" Barry said with a serious look in his eyes.
At that moment, Cecilia felt that Barry's gaze was a bit strange, but she didn't have time to think about it, so she quickly said, "Okay."
Then, Cecilia put the book into her backpack and immediately left Barry's sight.
Rushing to the window of the villa, Cecilia grabbed the cloth strip hidden nearby and began to climb up to the second floor using the security bars.
After climbing the window for a few days, Cecilia felt that her arm strength had improved.
A while later, Cecilia struggled to climb into the window. As soon as she looked up, she saw a familiar face and was shocked.
The figure standing in front of the window took a step forward, staring at Cecilia sitting on the windowsill with a cold gaze.
Cecilia couldn't help but think, 'Why is he at home? He usually doesn't appear in the villa during the day. What is going on today?'
For a moment, Cecilia's heart was in chaos, as if she had been caught doing something wrong.
"You are really something!" Daryl looked Cecilia up and down.
Hearing this, Cecilia's heart panicked, and she lost her footing, falling backward.
Behind her was empty space, and if she fell, she would definitely get injured. Fortunately, there was a soft lawn below the villa.
When Cecilia closed her eyes regardless of all consequences, she felt a tight grip on her wrist.
The next moment, Cecilia felt herself collide with a solid chest, catching a whiff of a man's masculine scent.
Cecilia opened her eyes and, sure enough, she was leaning against Daryl's chest.
"What are you doing here?" Cecilia asked in surprise.
Seeing her surprised eyes, her panting breath, and her flushed face, Daryl's eyes darkened.
At that moment, the air was filled with an intimate atmosphere.
Cecilia then realized she was still leaning against him. She quickly took a step back, leaving his embrace.
At this moment, Daryl touched the cloth strip tied to the bed leg and said with a lowered gaze, "If I didn't come, how could I witness such a spectacular scene?"
"I came to Northstar City to study. If you don't let me attend classes, when will I ever graduate?" Cecilia tried to soften her tone. She still didn't want to fall out with him, as it wouldn't benefit her at all.
"So you can just ignore my words?" Daryl said sternly, staring at Cecilia.
"I was wrong," Cecilia suddenly said, lowering her head.
Hearing this, Daryl was surprised and stared at Cecilia.
He knew Cecilia was a very proud person, and it wasn't easy for her to apologize.
At this moment, Daryl crossed his arms and glanced at the cloth strip tied to the bed leg. It was obviously made from a bedsheet. Thinking about how Cecilia had climbed up just now, he found it quite amusing.
Touching his chin, Daryl's gaze towards Cecilia suddenly softened.
He did like Cecilia. She was the first girl to enter his heart in so many years. He initially hid his identity because he wanted a relationship free of material factors.
But unexpectedly, Cecilia still disappointed him.
Although he knew she had her difficulties and her family wasn't doing well, it wasn't a reason for her to betray their relationship and be vain.
Even though he was deeply disappointed in Cecilia and she had hurt him deeply, Daryl still couldn't give her up. So he had meticulously helped her when she was in a desperate situation, keeping her by his side.
Every time he faced Cecilia, Daryl's heart was extremely conflicted. He hated Cecilia, but he couldn't deny that she strongly attracted him in every way.
With this conflicted heart, he only came to the villa when he couldn't control his desire to see her, usually staying in a hotel near the company.
Not hearing Daryl speak for a long time, Cecilia looked up and met Daryl's deep gaze.
From Daryl's eyes, Cecilia saw a hint of tenderness, making her heart tighten.
She had seen this look before. From these eyes, she could be sure that Daryl still had feelings for her.
At that moment, Cecilia felt a sudden sense of pride.
Daryl, afraid she would see through his feelings, quickly shifted his gaze elsewhere.
The next moment, Daryl's eyes unintentionally swept over Cecilia's backpack lying on the ground.
The backpack was open, and a corner of a book was exposed, showing the words "One Hundred Years of Solitude."
Seeing these words, Daryl frowned.
Then, he bent down, took the book out of the backpack, glanced at the name on the cover, and opened it.
