Chapter 258 Heart-Wrenching Pain
Seb gave a wry smile and said, "I know you won't believe me, so I brought all of Hayden's medical records. Take a look."
He pulled out several thick paper bags and placed them on the coffee table in front of Susan.
Susan frowned but reached for one. As she opened it and looked through the documents, her frown deepened.
The records detailed Hayden's condition and recovery from when he was just over a year old to three years old, covering two full years.
Thinking of Hayden's cute, chubby face, Susan felt heartbroken. How did such a young child manage to overcome his illness over these two years? The hardships must have been unimaginable.
Then she saw the surgery records, which confirmed that the umbilical cord blood was a successful match for Hayden.
Susan thought, 'Heaven showed mercy to Hayden, letting Seb find suitable umbilical cord blood to save him.'
Seb then dropped a bombshell. "Do you know where the umbilical cord blood that saved Hayden came from?"
"Where?" Susan asked.
"It was Spring who saved Hayden," Seb replied.
Susan stared at Seb in shock, not understanding.
Seb stood up, walked to the window, and looked outside. "I searched nationwide for bone marrow to match Hayden's, but his blood type was rare. The doctor suggested something."
"What suggestion?" Susan felt there was more to the story.
"The doctor suggested Hayden's mother and I have another child because a sibling's umbilical cord blood had a fifty percent chance of matching." Seb turned and stared at Susan.
Susan was stunned. "You mean, you you bribed the doctors to have me deliver Spring prematurely by C-section just to save Hayden?"
This was the unforgivable act that Susan could never reconcile with Seb for. Spring's premature arrival not only jeopardized her own well-being but also led to a month-long hospital stay for the newborn.Susan had never understood why Seb did this. She once thought Seb had been traumatized or was psychologically disturbed.
Now it seemed everything was because of Hayden. Seb wanted to use Spring's umbilical cord blood to save Hayden.
Susan somewhat understood Seb. He couldn't just watch Hayden's condition worsen. Maybe delivering Spring prematurely was his only option.
But Seb had said only siblings with the same biological parents have a fifty percent chance. Could Hayden really be the son Seb claimed had died years ago?
Susan found it hard to accept. Her head felt numb, and her hands and feet were weak. She desperately tried to determine if Seb's words were true.
The medical records in front of her couldn't be fake. Seb might be influential, but forging so many detailed records wasn't something that could be done overnight.
Seb clenched his fists, his eyes moist. "This is where I failed you and Spring the most. Spring is my daughter too, and I wanted her to be born healthy. But I had no choice. I couldn't watch Hayden die. His condition was getting worse, and I feared he wouldn't make it to your due date, so I had to find you and take drastic measures." By the end, Seb's fist was pounding against the wall.
Seeing Seb's dejected and remorseful look, Susan felt a bit moved but still couldn't accept everything he said.
She glanced at the medical records, her hands trembling. Suddenly, she looked up and asked, "When I was in Lindell Harbor, you kept finding me. Were you trying to knock me up so you could use the cord blood to save Hayden?"
From the timeline, Hayden's condition must have been very serious then.
Susan couldn't shake off the hurt caused by Seb. It had brought her to the brink of despair, even making her contemplate the idea of ending it all.She thought Seb was psychologically disturbed and harassing her. Now it made sense. No wonder Seb showed no tenderness and was so ruthless. He just wanted her to get pregnant.
"Susan, I'm sorry. I had no other choice. I know I've caused you irreparable harm, and I'll find a way to make it up to you and Spring. I hope you can forgive me for Hayden and Spring's sake!" Seb stepped forward, trying to get closer to Susan.
Seeing Seb approach, Susan stood up warily and pointed at him. "Don't come any closer!"
Seb stopped, his voice filled with anguish. "Susan, I really had no other choice back then!"
Susan couldn't take it anymore; her mental state was on the verge of collapse.
She shouted, "None of this is true. Seb, you made up all these lies to win me back. I won't believe you!"
With a firm grip on her purse, she spun around and stormed off."You don't have to forgive me, but are you really going to abandon Hayden?" Seb shouted at her back.
Susan stopped. She looked up at the ceiling, but tears streamed uncontrollably from her eyes.
What should she do now? Was Hayden really her son? Although she desperately hoped Hayden was the son she had given birth to years ago, knowing he had suffered so much made her heart ache.
"Ever since Hayden became aware, he has always asked why everyone else has a mom, but he doesn't. I could only tell him that his mom was taking care of his sister and would come to see him soon. Susan, whether you forgive me or not, I hope you can acknowledge Hayden. He really needs a mother's love!" Seb took a step closer to Susan.
Susan couldn't hold back her tears any longer and began to sob uncontrollably. Seb then took hold of her shoulders.
