Chapter 200 Faint
Ethan glanced at his gold watch and then smiled at George, saying, "Sorry, we bought tickets for a movie that starts in half an hour. Next time, let's play golf and catch up!"
"Sure," George nodded.
"It's on me. Order whatever you like," Ethan smiled at Susan, then wrapped his arm around Amelia's waist and walked away.
Watching them leave, George laughed, "His taste has really gone downhill this time!"
Susan frowned and asked, "Who is he?"
"My friend, just returned from studying abroad in Averlake. His family is very wealthy; they own many hotels and restaurants in Maple Valley. Your enemy has found a rich backer this time," George said, chuckling.
"Well, that's her skill," Susan said, but then she felt dizzy.
"What's wrong?" Seeing Susan swaying, George quickly stepped forward to support her.
"I'm fine," Susan said, holding her head, but then she couldn't control it and collapsed into George's arms.
"Susan?" George looked worried, bent down, picked her up, and hurried into the café, shouting, "Is anyone here? Call an ambulance right now!"
"Sir, what's wrong?" A waiter came forward to help.
"Call an ambulance! Didn't you hear me?" George shouted, his eyes full of anxiety.
"Okay, okay," the waiter said, fumbling to make the call.
A few hours later.
Susan woke up in a white ward. Seeing the surroundings, she knew she was in the hospital again.
"You're awake?" A familiar male voice came from beside her.
Susan turned her head and saw George smiling at her from the bedside.
"What happened to me?" Susan felt heavy-headed and too tired to sit up.
"You fainted earlier, so I brought you to the hospital," George said softly.
Hearing this, Susan's first reaction was to think about the baby in her belly. She urgently grabbed George's arm. "My baby, how is my baby?"
Seeing Susan's anxious reaction, George quickly held her hand and replied, "The baby's fine, still safe in your belly. Don't worry!"
Hearing this, Susan finally breathed a sigh of relief. She placed her hands on her flat stomach and said, "Thank God."
At that moment, Susan began to reflect: She had been too immature when she ran into Amelia earlier. If there had been any conflict with Amelia, it could have harmed the baby. Such behavior was extremely irresponsible towards her child. She resolved to be more careful in the future.
Then, Susan's eyes met George's.
George looked at her, wanting to ask something but holding back.
Susan knew George must be questioning her pregnancy. After all, she was alone, unmarried, and without a steady boyfriend. It was indeed puzzling.
But Susan couldn't tell George that the father was Seb, who had raped her. She couldn't say it and didn't want to create conflict between Seb and George.
"Can I ask who the father is?" George finally couldn't help but ask.
"No," Susan replied flatly.
George felt a lump in his throat. After a moment of hesitation, he asked, "Will the father take responsibility for this child?"
Hearing this, Susan felt a bit like crying and said casually, "He has plenty of money, but he won't marry me."
George's brows furrowed tightly, and his right hand unconsciously clenched into a fist.
Seeing his expression, Susan said, "This is my own business. You don't need to worry about it."
"If I'm not mistaken, is the father Seb?" George's face looked very grim.
Susan chose to remain silent, neither confirming nor denying.
Seeing this, George knew he had guessed right. He suddenly stood up and paced back and forth in the ward.
Then, he abruptly said to Susan, "I'm going to find Seb. He must marry you!"
With that, he turned to leave.
Seeing this, Susan, despite feeling dizzy, jumped out of bed and grabbed George's arm. "You can't go!"
"Shouldn't he take responsibility?" George retorted.
Susan's eyes paused, and she firmly said, "This child is mine. I don't want him to take responsibility."
"Are you worried about Cynthia? As far as I know, she has been in the hospital for treatment, and Seb has no plans to marry her," George said.
Hearing this, Susan frowned. She thought, 'No wonder Seb said he hadn't married Cynthia. It seems Cynthia's condition has worsened, delaying the wedding.'
Susan found it amusing. Did George think that just because Seb hadn't married Cynthia, he would turn around and marry her? No wonder every time she saw Seb, he looked melancholic and exhausted. He must have been taking care of Cynthia by her bedside.
At that moment, Susan seemed to understand. Seb had sought her out several times, perhaps to relieve his immense mental stress.
Thinking about how Seb had treated her so cruelly and emotionlessly, it was probably to alleviate the pressure from Cynthia's illness.
Thinking of this, Susan's legs went weak, and she almost couldn't stand.
George quickly supported her.
"Are you dizzy again? Sit down quickly!" George helped Susan sit on the bed.
"I have nothing to do with Seb. I hate him, so please don't mention him again!" Susan said firmly, but tears glistened in her eyes.
Susan turned away, covering her mouth to stifle a sob, but she couldn't hold back her emotions.
Seeing Susan's suppressed crying, George felt very uncomfortable.
He put his hand on Susan's shoulder and said in a deep voice, "If you want to cry, just cry. Don't hold it in; it's bad for your health."
Then, Susan couldn't hold back her emotions anymore. She pulled George to sit on the bed and said, "Let me borrow your shoulder!"
Then, Susan cried on George's shoulder.
She had been holding it in for too long. After crying, she felt much better.
Susan cried for a good ten minutes. When she finished, she saw that George had been sitting there like a statue, not moving, looking dazed.
"Why didn't you move at all?" Susan asked, grabbing a tissue to wipe her nose and tears.
