Chapter 276 Pouring Out His Heart
"Ms. Green, long time no see!" Susan greeted Jessica with a smile.
Jessica's response was devoid of any cheer. After a moment of hesitation, she continued, "Susan, I came all the way from Lindell Harbor for your wedding with George, but I didn't expect this, sorry for that."
Susan was aware of Jessica's lingering feelings for George. Their relationship had been no secret since Susan and George had gotten together. Despite not receiving an invitation from George, Jessica had made the journey to the wedding."I'm sorry you came for nothing," Susan said, feeling awkward. Although she hadn't tied the knot with George, Susan assumed Jessica might find some relief in that. After all, who wanted to witness their crush marrying another person?
Not feeling particularly chummy, Susan felt like wrapping up the conversation quickly with Jessica.
"Susan, why did you call off the wedding with George?" Jessica asked.
Jessica was just Susan's former boss; they weren't friends. Susan didn't want to share her private matters.
Thus, with a smile, Susan said, "How do you know it was me who called it off?"
Jessica looked away and replied, "Susan, I know George too well. His love for you is unconditional. Even though he announced the cancellation, I know it was because you didn't want to marry him. He took all the blame, saying it was his fault. I just don't believe it."
Hearing this, Susan couldn't keep up the act and admitted, "You really do know George well."
"I've known him for years, but what good does it do? His heart is with you," Jessica said, her eyes sad.
Jessica was great—beautiful and wise, and her love for George was admirable. If George could be with Jessica, they'd be perfect together.
"Not anymore," Susan said calmly.
"What do you mean?" Jessica asked, confused.
Susan explained, "I mean everything between George and me is over. I've taken back my feelings for him, and I think he will soon take back his feelings for me too."
Susan's meaning was clear; Jessica had another chance.
However, Jessica didn't see it that way. "Susan, do you understand love? If it were that easy to take back feelings, there'd be no pain in this world."
Jessica's words struck a chord with Susan. She realized Jessica was spot on. Genuine emotions couldn't simply be reversed. If she could effortlessly retract her feelings for George, perhaps her love for him had never been genuine to begin with.
And the person she always loved was Seb. No matter how much she hated him, she couldn't erase Seb from her heart.
"Yes, feelings do make people helpless." Susan nodded.
Seeing Susan's expression, Jessica said, "Alright, I understand. You don't love George, at least not enough. It's his good fortune he didn't marry you today."
Jessica's insight was keen. She could discern from Susan's words that true love for George was indeed absent."Even though I can't be his wife, I still hope he finds happiness. Sorry, I have to go." Susan quickly ended the conversation.
"Goodbye." Jessica nodded.
Susan walked out of the hotel, down the steps, and through the parking lot, feeling conflicted.
She knew she and Spring had to move out of George's house, but where could they go?
She couldn't return to Catherine's; Catherine wouldn't forgive her anytime soon. Besides Dorothy, she had no other relatives, and she had fallen out with Dorothy.
Suddenly, a figure stepped out of a car, startling Susan.
It was Henry.
Seeing him, Susan frowned and looked around but didn't see Dorothy.
"It's just me. Dorothy went home," Henry said, understanding her thoughts.
Susan hesitated, then asked, "Were you waiting for me?"
The wedding was canceled, and most guests had left. Henry was still there, it was clear he was waiting for someone.
"I want to know why you canceled the wedding," Henry asked directly.
Susan laughed. "Henry, even though we're families now, my marriage is my business. Whether I cancel the wedding or marry someone has nothing to do with you, right?"
Susan felt a sudden aversion to Henry. He had repeatedly tried to get close to her, causing Dorothy to misunderstand and leading to their fallout. Although Dorothy's lack of understanding was part of the problem, Henry's approach was also to blame.
"I'm just concerned about you," Henry said, frowning, hurt by Susan's coldness.
"I don't need your concern. Don't forget I'm Dorothy's sister. We shouldn't meet privately; we need to avoid suspicion," Susan retorted, clearly irritated.
"You have to worry about that for much longer. I'm definitely going to divorce Dorothy," Henry said firmly.
Susan 's frustration escalated further. Despite her reluctance to meddle, she found herself compelled to caution him, "Amanda is your child. Have you considered the impact all this upheaval is having on her? I won't intrude in your marriage with Dorothy, nor do I wish to. I just hope you take care of Amanda."
Henry punched the car door beside him!
"I know you'll never like me, so I have no other expectations. I just want you to be happy. I originally wanted to make things work with Dorothy. Even though she's not the love of my life, she's Amanda's mother. I thought we could develop feelings over time. But her personality is too narrow-minded and harsh. We have no common ground, so I threw myself into my work. But I didn't expect her to cause a scene at school, saying I neglected her and even accusing female students who sought my advice of seducing me!" Henry was already gritting his teeth.
