Chapter 386 Lost

In the next few days, Susan tried to bring up the whole remarriage thing a bunch of times. Living here without any official status was bound to get people talking eventually.

Plus, everyone at Pioneer Accounting Firm thought Susan was dating Leon. Even when she denied it, no one bought it. So lately, she just smiled and kept her mouth shut, not denying or explaining anything. But that wasn't gonna work forever; if the rumors kept flying, things could get messy.

Susan didn't dare bring it up with Seb 'cause he was all proud and arrogant. She was scared that if she mentioned it, it might cause trouble for Leon.

A few times, Susan almost said something but chickened out. She didn't know what Seb was thinking, but she knew he loved her and the kids. Still, the fact that Seb hadn't brought up remarriage in so long made her doubt. She was scared that if she asked and Seb didn't respond, what would she do then?

One evening, Seb rushed back home.

"You're back? Dinner's almost ready," Susan said with a smile while playing with the kids in the living room.

Seb dropped his briefcase, walked over, and patted Hayden and Spring on the head before saying urgently, "I gotta head back to the central district for something. Can you pack me a few clothes?"

Susan frowned and asked, "It's already dark, and driving for hours isn't safe. Why not leave early tomorrow morning?"

"No, I need to be there tonight," Seb insisted.

"Why the rush? Did something happen?" Susan asked, trying to read his expression, thinking something big might've gone down.

Seb shook his head, "It's nothing major. My mom's back from vacation and she's not feeling well. We haven't seen each other in a while, so I'm going to check on her."

Susan nodded and went upstairs to pack his clothes without saying more.

After putting a few changes of clothes and toiletries into the suitcase, Susan paused for a moment.

Logically, if Carol was back and Seb wanted to see her, he should take her and the kids along. Carol hadn't seen Hayden in a long time, and she had never met Spring. Plus, Susan was the kids' mom and Seb's future wife. He should take her along.

But Seb didn't do that. The only explanation was that he still didn't want to remarry her, or Carol still didn't accept her and didn't like her kids.

Thinking of this, the usually tough Susan felt a bit resentful.

She didn't care about being Carol's daughter-in-law anyway. She never wanted to marry into a rich family, and this way, she could avoid dealing with Carol.

Then, Susan carried the suitcase downstairs.

She saw Seb holding Spring in his arms, with one hand holding Hayden, talking to them with a reluctant expression.

Seeing Susan, Seb put down Spring and reached out to take the suitcase from her.

"When will you be back?" Susan asked, looking up.

Seb thought for a moment and said, "At least three to five days."

"That long?" Susan frowned, feeling a bit bummed.

Seeing this, Seb reached out and patted her cheek, saying softly, "Leon will stay to help me handle daily stuff. If you need anything, just call him."

"You're not taking Leon with you?" Susan was kinda surprised.

Seb always took Leon with him everywhere. Why not this time?

"Because I might be gone for a while, and there's too much going on at the company. So Leon's staying. Alright, I'm out. Take care of the kids and yourself!" After a few quick words, Seb glanced at Susan and the kids, then turned and left with the suitcase.

A week flew by, but Seb only sent a few texts and made one call during this week.

Susan felt uneasy and called him, but she heard laughter and chatter in the background, like he was at a party or something. Seb hurriedly hung up after a few words, sounding kinda impatient.

After that, Susan didn't call again, not wanting to bug him and feeling a bit hurt. Seb had been gone for so many days without asking about the kids, which made Susan a bit mad.

One evening, Susan came home from work.

As she got close to the villa, she saw Seb's black Bentley parked at the door.

Knowing Seb was back, Susan felt a rush of joy.

She quickly walked into the villa. Mary was playing with Spring, and when Spring saw Susan, she stretched out her little hands and called, "Mommy!"

Susan quickly picked up Spring and asked, "Is Seb back?"

"He's been back for over an hour, talking with Mr. Johnson upstairs. Kathy went to pick up Hayden," Mary replied.

Susan nodded, then kissed Spring's cheek and said happily, "Let's go find your daddy, okay?"

"Okay," Spring nodded.

Then, Susan carried Spring upstairs.

Knowing Seb was back, Susan's steps were lighter, and the anger she had felt over the past few days completely disappeared, replaced by a longing for Seb and the joy of his return.

Susan carried Spring to the study and saw the door was ajar, with Seb and Leon's voices coming from inside.

"Get this sorted ASAP. No screw-ups," Seb said.

"I'll get the team on it right away," Leon replied.

Hearing them talking business, Susan stood at the door, not wanting to interrupt.

Then, Leon switched gears and suddenly asked, "Mr. Anderson, how's your dad doing?"

Seb was quiet for a moment before answering, "I've smoothed things over, so there shouldn't be any major issues."

"In that case, can you and Ms. Wilson get remarried soon?" Leon asked.

Standing outside, Susan heard these words and couldn't help but think, 'Did something happen to Seb's dad?'

But hearing Seb say that there shouldn't be any major issues, Susan felt relieved.

Then, Susan heard Leon ask the question she had been dying to ask for days. She couldn't help but feel nervous, wanting to know Seb's current attitude towards remarriage.

Soon, Seb's voice came from the ajar door. "I don't have any plans to remarry Susan for now."

Hearing this, Susan felt a bit lost.
