Chapter 935 Male Best Friend

Isabella was caught off guard by Alfonso's persistence. She thought she had already turned him down politely, but here he was, still pushing.

Seeing her stunned look, Alfonso got serious. "How about you just think of me as a close guy friend for now?"

Isabella couldn't help but laugh. Alfonso was definitely charming and considerate, the kind of guy anyone would be lucky to have. But she was stubborn, and no matter how much she wished she could fall in love him, she just couldn't.

"You didn't say no, so I'll take that as a yes," Alfonso said with a grin, placing a piece of food on her plate.

Isabella accepted it with a smile. It was a small request, after all. But in the days that followed, she found herself being more reserved around him.

A few days later, one afternoon, Susan came back and saw Isabella dozing off in a swivel chair. She looked like she wanted to say something but was holding back.

Isabella noticed and sat up. "If you've got something to say, just spit it out. Why are you being all secretive?"

Susan sat down in front of her, looking serious. "I just ran into Leon."

Isabella frowned. "So what?"

"Can you let me finish?" Susan shot back, frowning.

Isabella leaned back, trying to look indifferent. "Alright, go on."

"Leon looked like he lost a lot of weight," Susan said.

Isabella was momentarily taken aback. "Maybe he went on some crazy island vacation and overdid it."

"Isabella, I really think Leon's not doing well," Susan insisted, frowning at her friend's nonchalance.

Isabella was getting impatient. "What's wrong with him? Is he sick or something?"

"Not exactly, but he seemed really lonely. He looked like he wanted to say something but couldn't. I think he wanted to ask about you," Susan said.

Isabella's calm facade started to crack.

Susan continued, "I asked him a question."

"What question?" Isabella had a feeling it was about her.

"I asked if he liked you," Susan replied.

Isabella's eyes widened. "Susan, are you nuts?"

Ignoring her, Susan went on, "Leon said when he doesn't see you, he misses you like crazy. But when he does see you, he can't help but argue with you. Basically, you mess with his head."

Isabella leaned back, trying to keep her face neutral, but inside, she was a mess.

"You both like each other, but neither of you wants to make the first move. If you let Leon go, you'll regret it," Susan said, frowning.

"Won't he regret it if he lets me go?" Isabella said, her eyes looking distant.

Susan sighed, "We're both too stubborn for our own good. This is something you need to figure out for yourself. I know what it's like to love someone and not be able to be with them. I don't want you to go through that."

With that, Susan turned and headed to her office.

Meanwhile, Leon was going through the roughest patch of his life. He had finally realized he loved Isabella, but he couldn't bring himself to face it, let alone win her over.

He couldn't eat, and all he could think about was her face. He even found himself wandering to places where he might see her, just to catch a glimpse.

But every time he saw her, his blood would boil because Alfonso was always there with her. He often felt like punching Alfonso but always held back.

To cope, he buried himself in work and hit the gym in his free time. This routine led to weight loss, and after a month, he had dropped 10 pounds. His clothes were hanging off him.

One day, Isabella was sitting by a window in a restaurant, waiting for Susan. Susan had been in a bad mood after a miscarriage, so Isabella had invited her out for a meal.

During the meal, Susan got a phone call, glanced at Isabella, and then made an excuse to step out.

Isabella didn't get it, so she just rested her chin on her hand and stared out the window.

Suddenly, she saw a familiar figure. Her heart skipped a beat when she recognized Leon.

Leon walked up to Susan, who was standing by the roadside, and they started talking. It turned out the call was from Leon. No wonder Susan had made an excuse to leave. Leon was avoiding her.

Knowing he was intentionally avoiding her made Isabella feel uneasy.

She watched Leon for a while. He had indeed lost weight, and his suit looked loose on him.

Seeing this, Isabella's heart ached.

'How did he end up like this after just a month? Is he really this worn out because of me?' she thought, feeling a sudden urge to rush out.

She wanted to touch his gaunt face, to smooth out the lines of worry on his forehead.

When Leon was about to leave, he glanced at the restaurant twice, his eyes filled with melancholy and sadness, making Isabella's heart twist.

Not long after, Susan came back, acting like nothing had happened.

"Are all the dishes here?" Susan asked with a smile, glancing at the table.

"What did you go out for?" Isabella asked casually while eating.

"A client came to drop off a document," Susan replied, clearly lying.

Isabella gave her a knowing look and said, "Does our firm have business with Prosperity Group?"

Susan hesitated, then looked up. "You saw Leon?"

"I'm not blind," Isabella said, rolling her eyes.

Susan looked out the window and realized that from this angle, the spot where she met Leon was visible.

"What did Leon want? Did Seb send him?" Isabella asked, frowning.
