Chapter 582 Conflict

Susan followed Seb into the villa.

The villa was beautifully decorated, with wine, flowers, and cake all ready.

Seb only saw Laura and another servant bustling around and couldn't help but ask Rylee, "Rylee, where's Mom?"

"Mom's upstairs getting dressed. She probably isn't ready yet. She's in a good mood today; she just made a new dress yesterday and said she wanted to wear it for her birthday," Rylee said with a smile.

Hearing this, Seb smiled and said to Susan, "Didn't you buy Mom some pajamas? Hurry up and show them to her to see if she likes them."

Hearing this, Susan felt a bit awkward.

Susan quickly said, "How about you come with me?"

"Sure..." Seb hadn't finished his sentence when they heard the sound of a car horn outside.

Seb looked out the window and said, "Leon has brought Hayden and Spring over. I'll go get them. Why don't you go up first? I'll bring them in and come upstairs to find you right away?"

Hearing this, Susan had no choice. In front of Rylee, it would seem too rude to refuse again, so she nodded and went upstairs with the new pajamas in hand.

At this moment, Carol was in her room talking to Andrew.

"Andrew, do you know what to do during dinner later?" Carol asked Andrew in a condescending tone.

Andrew nodded with a smile. "Mom, you've reminded me several times. I've got it."

"Good, as long as you follow through and successfully get Seb and Susan to divorce, you'll be handsomely rewarded." Carol said.

"Yes, Mom. Should I go change my clothes?" Andrew glanced at the suit he had worn to work.

"Go ahead," Carol waved her hand.

Andrew then left Carol's room.

As soon as Andrew closed Carol's bedroom door and turned around, he saw Susan approaching.

Seeing Andrew, Susan paused.

Their eyes met briefly, and then Andrew, without saying anything, glanced at her and turned to enter his own room.

Susan felt really frustrated. She never imagined that she and Andrew would cross paths again after so many years.

Maybe it was fate. The outcome was already destined when he got together with Rylee.

Susan walked to Carol's bedroom door, took a deep breath, and then knocked.

"Come in!" Carol's voice quickly came from inside.

Although she didn't want to face Carol, Susan knew she had to, and today she had to find a way to thwart Carol's scheme.

The next moment, Susan pushed open the door and walked in.

Carol, who was sitting at the dressing table putting on earrings, looked up and saw Susan in the mirror. She seemed surprised and frowned slightly.

"Mom, happy birthday. This is a gift I bought for you. I hope you like it," Susan said politely, handing over the gift.

Hearing this, Carol didn't even turn her head. She glanced at Susan in the mirror and said with a smile, "That's thoughtful of you. Just leave it there."

Susan placed the gift on a nearby cabinet as Carol instructed.

Standing there for a few seconds, Susan glanced at the door and saw that Seb hadn't come yet. Feeling awkward, she said, "Mom, I'll go downstairs to see if there's anything I can help with."

Susan had just taken two steps when she heard Carol's voice behind her.

"You and your mother...you may dress well and put on a good show, but your talent for snaring men is undeniable. It's a shame I'm not a man myself. I might be tempted to see what it is about you two that captivates them so easily."

Hearing such insulting words, Susan frowned and turned to glare at Carol.

Carol's eyes were filled with a gloating and mocking look.

Susan told herself to endure it if she could.

Then, she said as calmly as possible, "Mom, I know what my mom did was wrong and she owes you an apology. But she's still my mom, and I won't stand here and listen to you insult her!"

At this moment, Carol, wearing a deep red dress, suddenly stood up and sneered. "And what about the insults she hurled at me? Sleeping with my husband after all these years? Flaunting her affair as if it were something to be proud of? She made her bed, and now she has to lie in it."

Susan's hands were trembling with anger.

Susan knew this wasn't the time to fall out with Carol because Seb downstairs hadn't seen any of this. If she argued with Carol, Carol would definitely accuse her of being disrespectful and ruining her birthday. Then, she would bring out the photos of her and Andrew, and Susan would be in a dire situation.

The next moment, Susan calmly said, "I know you invited me to your birthday today with ulterior motives. You have too many prejudices against me to ever want to get along. Since that's the case, I don't need to try to please you. But you are Seb's mother, and I won't argue with you. I'm here today for Seb, not for you!"

With that, Susan turned to leave.

Carol chased her to the bedroom door and asked, "What did you just say? That I have ulterior motives? What else do you know?"

Carol's first reaction was that Andrew had leaked information. If Susan knew her plans in advance and was prepared, her scheme, which she had been planning for days, would be ruined. She couldn't let Susan escape.

"I have nothing to say to you!" Susan said and started to go downstairs.

Carol grabbed her wrist and said coldly, "You must explain yourself today. Did Andrew tell you something?"

At this moment, Andrew, hiding by his bedroom door, broke out in a cold sweat upon hearing their conversation.
