Chapter 393 Establishing Her Own Business

"I really did quit," Susan said, cool as a cucumber, looking at Isabella.

"I don't even know what to say to you. What were you thinking?" Isabella stared at Susan, totally baffled.

"How 'bout we chat over some grub?" Susan grinned.

Then Susan added, "Isabella, we've been grinding for years. Besides chasing that paycheck and career growth, haven't we also wanted to find some real self-worth?"

"In my book, self-worth comes with a fat stack of cash," Isabella said, munching away.

Susan kept going, "Mr. Bell's got my back 'cause Seb can handle his biz. The day Mr. Bell can't milk any more from me, I'm out. So, I figure it's better to do something real."

Isabella nodded, "You're right, but why not just jump to Prosperity Group and be the finance boss? You'd have Seb wrapped around your finger!"

"Even if Seb and I tie the knot again, I ain't going back to Prosperity Group," Susan shook her head.

"So, you're job hunting again?" Isabella asked.

"Nope. I'm starting my own gig," Susan said, beaming.

Isabella looked at her, confused. "What do you mean?"

"I wanna open my own accounting firm. Even if it's tiny, with just a few folks, at least it's a step forward," Susan said, locking eyes with Isabella.

"So, you're going solo. You sold your stocks to kickstart a biz?" Isabella finally got it.

"Yep, Isabella, if you trust me, join me. We'll build this thing together!" Susan suddenly grabbed Isabella's hand.

Isabella thought for a sec and said, "Honestly, I'm not thrilled with my current gig, but the pay's solid. If you start a firm, I'd love to help out!"

Susan lit up, "Awesome! I knew you'd be down. How much cash you got? If you trust me, throw it all in as your shares."

"Sounds good. We'll split the profits. Your firm will crush it. Just a bit of Seb's business will keep us rolling," Isabella joked, wiggling her fingers.

"I wanna do this on my own, no leaning on him," Susan said, determined.

"You're something else. You've got this killer background but don't wanna use it. I wish I had that kinda setup," Isabella sighed.

"Hey, relying on ourselves beats relying on anyone else," Susan said, giving her a playful nudge.

"By the way, does Seb know about this?" Isabella asked.

Susan replied while munching, "He's been back in the central district the past couple days. Haven't had the chance to tell him. I think he'll be cool with it."

"Now there's two of us. Know anyone else we can bring in, so we don't have to hire strangers?" Isabella suggested, resting her chin on her hand.

Susan thought for a moment, "I won't poach anyone from Pioneer Accounting, but I do have someone in mind."

"Who?" Isabella asked.

Susan grinned, "It's Maria, you know, from George Law Firm. I hit her up yesterday. She's not there anymore. I asked her to join us, and she was all in. With the three of us, we're almost set. Next up, we need an office, register the company, and hire a receptionist, a clerk, and a few other folks. Then we can roll."

"I'm handing in my resignation tomorrow and selling my stocks. I'm gonna be a shareholder!" Isabella said, super pumped, clasping her hands like she was praying.

Next morning, Susan's phone buzzed. It was Isabella.

"Susan, I got a problem!" Isabella's voice was all shaky.

"What happened?" Susan's heart skipped a beat, thinking something bad had gone down.

"Susan, the stock market tanked!" Isabella cried.

"What?" Susan's face went stone cold.

She fired up her computer and, sure enough, almost every stock had nosedived. The market was a mess.

Susan's gut feeling from a few days ago had been spot on. Not only had the stock fundamentals gone south, but some bad news had dropped today, crashing the market.

Poor Isabella. She was just about to sell her stocks today, and now they were all in the red. Tomorrow wasn't looking any better, but Susan knew it was gonna be rough.

"Susan, I should've listened to you. I should've sold the stocks earlier. What do I do now?" Isabella sounded crushed.

Susan thought for a sec and said, "Tomorrow morning, list them at the limit down price. If you can sell, do it."

Isabella freaked, "List them at the limit down price? What if they bounce back tomorrow?"

Susan was sweating bullets too, 'cause this was real cash on the line.

But she stayed firm, "In this mess, without some miracle news, the market's gonna keep tanking for a few days. And our stock's got bad fundamentals, so it's definitely gonna drop more. Better sell now; you might still get a decent price."

Isabella sighed, "I'll think about it."

She hung up, sounding totally defeated.

Susan shook her head, feeling pretty helpless.

Just then, there was a knock on her office door.

"Come in," Susan said, packing up her stuff.

The door opened, and in walked Linda.

Susan looked up, surprised to see her.

"Are you really leaving?" Linda asked, eyeing the box on Susan's desk.

Today was Susan's last day. She'd wrapped up her work yesterday. Today, she just needed to grab her paycheck and bounce from Pioneer Accounting Firm.

"Yep," Susan nodded.

Linda's eyes showed a hint of regret. Then she smiled, "I'm sorry, Susan. I thought you were gunning for a promotion to mess with me."

"It's cool. Glad you get it now," Susan smiled back.

"So, what's next? Heading back to Prosperity Group to be the boss's wife?" Linda's smile was genuine, no fake vibes.
