Chapter 1097 Distraught

Cecilia saw the girl naturally take Daryl's arm, and Daryl was chatting and laughing with her.

Seeing the smile on Daryl's face, Cecilia felt particularly stung.

Because the way he looked at that girl was gentle, with a hint of doting, which no longer existed between them.

At this moment, Cecilia clutched her chest, feeling a bit breathless.

Then, the girl turned around, and Cecilia saw her face clearly.

The girl was very young, no more than twenty-five, with delicate skin, bright eyes, a pretty face, and a sweet and elegant appearance. She wore a white hair clip with a bow, looking playful and cute.

Seeing that face, Cecilia was stunned.

After thinking for a moment, Cecilia recognized the girl.

Her name was Skylar, a classmate from the same year in college, though not from the same department.

Skylar was not only talented but also a rich girl. She was always picked up by luxury cars, and her attire was unique, very high-end and elegant.

Because Skylar was a popular figure in school, Cecilia was familiar with her, though Skylar probably didn't know her.

Seeing that the girl beside Daryl was Skylar, Cecilia's heart sank.

Because Cecilia had heard in college that Skylar came from a wealthy family, and Daryl would never mess around with a girl of such status.

'Could they be serious? Are they dating?' Thinking of this, Cecilia's heart felt like it was being cut open by a dagger.

Actually, Cecilia had anticipated this day. One day, Daryl would marry a girl of equal status. She just didn't expect it to come so soon. She thought it would be a long time later, even after their one-year contract ended, that such a woman would appear.

No wonder he lied about going on a business trip to Cobblestone City. He wasn't afraid of making her sad but was afraid of being exposed, afraid of explaining to Skylar. If Skylar found out about her, she definitely wouldn't let it go.

Cecilia watched Daryl and Skylar's backs as they walked into the hotel lobby.

Meanwhile, she walked down the steps in a daze, holding her handbag.

As Cecilia reached the roadside, a car suddenly pulled up beside her.

Cecilia looked up and saw Douglas's face as the driver's side window rolled down.

"Ms. Thorne, what are you doing here?" Douglas looked surprised to see Cecilia and glanced at the nearby Hilton Hotel.

"I..." Suddenly seeing Douglas, Cecilia was at a loss for words, not knowing how to respond, as her emotions hadn't settled yet.

Seeing Cecilia's expression, Douglas understood what was going on.

He then got out of the car, opened the back door, and made a gesture. "Let me take you home."

Cecilia looked at Douglas, about to refuse.

But Douglas said, "I think you have some questions for me."

Cecilia stared into Douglas' eyes and then got into the back seat.

Douglas, being a smart assistant, had seen through her predicament, so she didn't need to hide anything. She also wanted to know more about Daryl and Skylar from Douglas.

Douglas closed the back door and then got into the driver's seat.

As the car merged onto the road, Douglas glanced at Cecilia in the rearview mirror and spoke. "Ms. Thorne, did you just see Mr. Fields and..."

Cecilia immediately interrupted Douglas, "What's his relationship with Skylar?"

Hearing this, Douglas frowned and asked in surprise, "You know Ms. Tate?"

Cecilia replied directly, "Skylar and I went to the same college."

"What a coincidence," Douglas remarked.

"You haven't answered my question," Cecilia said, staring at the back of Douglas' head.

Douglas then said, "As Mr. Fields' assistant, it's not appropriate for me to say too much. I can only tell you that the Tate Family and the Field Family are old friends."

She should have guessed. Skylar's family background was very similar to Daryl's. Meeting in Northstar City must have been arranged by their families.

It seemed they were dating. The sweet gestures and expressions were something only couples would do, so their marriage must be near.

But she didn't know what Daryl would do with her. After all, their contract still had six months left.

'Maybe Daryl would terminate the contract early? Would I be free then?' Cecilia bitterly smiled to herself.

"Did he not go to Cobblestone City at all?" Cecilia asked again.

Although the question was meaningless, she still asked.

She wanted to know how much he would do for Skylar, or if he truly loved her.

But after asking, Cecilia felt a bit ridiculous.

Douglas didn't answer Cecilia's question and chose to remain silent.

Cecilia then said, "I understand. I won't make things difficult for you."

Douglas was just Daryl's assistant. Without Daryl's permission, he couldn't reveal anything about Daryl.

But Douglas' silence had already given her the answer. Knowing this answer, even though she had expected it, still made her feel very sad.

"Ms. Thorne, actually..." Douglas started to say something, but the car had already stopped in front of the villa.

"You don't need to say anything. I shouldn't have asked so much. Douglas, please don't tell Daryl about me seeing him and Skylar today. I don't want to add to our troubles," Cecilia said with a bitter smile.

Douglas neither nodded nor shook his head.

The next moment, Cecilia opened the car door and got out.

Entering the villa, Cecilia ignored Freya's cheerful greeting, went straight upstairs, and collapsed on the bed, her eyes falling on "One Hundred Years of Solitude" on the nightstand.

That evening, in a restaurant with soft music playing, Daryl and Skylar sat across from each other, eating and chatting.

At this moment, Douglas, dressed in a black suit, walked over and called out to Daryl. "Mr. Fields."

Daryl looked up at Douglas and then said to Skylar, "Skylar, I'll be right back."
