Chapter 1088 Heavy-Hearted
After speaking, Daryl stormed out in anger.
It wasn't until the door slammed loudly that Cecilia snapped out of her daze.
Just a moment ago, they seemed to be flirting. How did it suddenly turn into this?
Cecilia felt physically and mentally exhausted and turned to sit on the edge of the bed.
She thought, 'Do I say something wrong just now? Why does he suddenly get so angry?'
Cecilia felt that Daryl seemed a bit off. A few days ago, he suddenly became unusually gentle, and now he was suddenly extremely cold.
However, Cecilia knew she didn't have much time to wallow in self-pity; she still had to go to class.
With a heavy heart, Cecilia got dressed and washed up.
By the time she went downstairs, the villa was already empty.
The large villa felt really empty and scary with just her in it.
As Cecilia left the villa with her backpack, she glanced towards the dining room and saw that breakfast was still laid out.
Cecilia furrowed her brows and slowly walked to the dining table. Looking down, she saw two untouched breakfasts.
After staring at the two breakfasts for a long time, Cecilia thought, 'These breakfasts must have been prepared by Daryl earlier, but he gets angry and probably leaves directly from upstairs, so he doesn't eat.'
For a moment, Cecilia felt a mix of emotions.
Cecilia slowly sat down at the dining table, her eyes fixed on the breakfast in front of her, feeling an unusual sense of loss and regret.
She regretted that she was so sharp-tongued just now, because her few words had made the atmosphere so tense, and now she felt miserable herself.
Cecilia suddenly missed the seemingly warm moments of the past few days. If they could continue like this, it wouldn't be such a bad thing.
Although they were now just maintaining a facade of harmony, the scenes of them leaning against the headboard reading every night were really comforting.
Unconsciously, Cecilia ate half a fried egg and drank half a glass of milk, but eventually lost her appetite and got up to leave.
That day, sitting in class, Cecilia mechanically took notes, listening absentmindedly to the teacher's lecture.
That night, Cecilia sat at the head of the bed, waiting all night, but he didn't return to the villa.
This went on for several days, and Cecilia was not used to it. Looking at the copy of "One Hundred Years of Solitude" on the bedside table, filled with Daryl's annotations, she felt a mix of emotions.
At night, unable to sleep, she repeatedly read the notes he had written in the book, and time passed quickly.
Subconsciously, she missed him and wanted to see him, but he just wouldn't show up, and she couldn't bring herself to call him, so they were at a stalemate.
After school that day, Cecilia ran into Violet again.
Violet scrutinized Cecilia for a moment and said, "You don't look well. Are you feeling unwell or just in a bad mood?"
Cecilia was startled because Violet was really good at reading people.
Seeing Cecilia's surprised look, Violet laughed and said, "Alright, you don't have to answer. I know you're definitely in a bad mood. Did you have a fight with Daryl?"
Hearing this, Cecilia knew she couldn't hide it. After all, Violet didn't know the real situation between her and Daryl.
"How did you know?" Cecilia asked, frowning.
"A young woman who's absent-minded and listless is definitely dealing with relationship issues!" Violet said.
"You know everything," Cecilia said, shaking her head helplessly.
Violet, holding her books, looked up at the sky and said, "My mood changes all because of my boyfriend. My parents don't approve of us being together. It's so annoying!"
Hearing this, Cecilia looked at Violet and asked, "So what are you going to do?"
Violet rolled her eyes and said helplessly, "What can I do? I know we both love each other. We're happy together. Who cares about the future? Maybe we won't love each other anymore by then. Even if my parents approve, we might not be together. I don't want to get married so early, so I'll just enjoy my love with my boyfriend now. The future will take care of itself. Don't you think?"
"Actually, being happy for a day is not bad," Cecilia muttered to herself.
Then Violet said, "I have to go. Bye!"
With that, Violet left.
After Violet left, Cecilia wandered the streets of Northstar City, feeling heavy-hearted.
Actually, what Violet said made sense. People should cherish the present, because no one knew what the future held.
Cecilia returned to the villa and sat in the empty, large house, feeling an indescribable sadness.
She and Daryl were destined to be passing figures in each other's lives. Once the contract was up, they would go their separate ways.
There were still nine months left until the one-year term, which meant she and Daryl had nine months left to spend together.
In these nine months, they could either be cold and confrontational or respectful and warm like the past few days. No matter how they spent it, the result would be the same.
Thinking about the separation in nine months, Cecilia felt both reluctant and sad.
Two more days passed, and Daryl still didn't show up. Cecilia finally couldn't hold back anymore.
During class that day, Cecilia sent a text message to Douglas because she knew Daryl often didn't carry his phone with him. If she sent a text, he might not see it.
Cecilia: [Douglas, please tell Mr. Fields to come home for dinner tonight.]
A minute later, Cecilia received a text message.
Douglas: [Get it.]
After reading the message, Cecilia furrowed her brows. 'What does that mean? Douglas doesn't say whether Daryl would come home for dinner or not. Should I prepare dinner or not?'
After thinking for a while, she decided that maybe Douglas would send another message later to clarify.
But until almost the end of school, Cecilia's phone didn't receive any more messages.
After school, Cecilia went straight to the supermarket.
Whether Daryl came back or not, since the invitation had been sent, she had to prepare dinner.
Cecilia shopped and cooked, busy for two or three hours, and finally finished making dinner.
Looking up at the clock on the wall, she saw it was still early, so Cecilia quickly ran upstairs to change clothes.
Entering the walk-in closet, Cecilia opened the wardrobe door and chose a red V-neck dress from among the many clothes. She then tied her hair into a high ponytail and applied light makeup.
