Chapter 297 Catch a Glimpse of Her

Sitting in the driver's seat, Leon spotted Elliott bugging Susan from a distance. He glanced back at Seb, whose face had already darkened.

"Mr. Anderson, want me to get someone to rough him up?" Leon asked.

Seb looked pissed but kept his cool. After a moment, he said, "Hold off for now. I want to get the dirt on him first."

"Got it," Leon nodded.

Seb watched Susan hop into a taxi and then said, "Let's head back."

Leon nodded, fired up the engine, and they merged into traffic.

Since Susan had shot Seb down last time, he hadn't shown his face around her.

Only Seb knew how much he missed her.

But Seb's pride wouldn't let him go crawling back, so he bought another Rolls-Royce. Susan wouldn't recognize the new ride, and in his spare time, he would have Leon drive to places she frequented, just to catch a glimpse of her.

Most of the time, Seb would just sneak a quick look from afar, but even that was enough to keep him going.

It was Friday night, and Seb had sent a car to pick up Hayden and Spring.

Susan had been slaving away in the kitchen for two hours, and the table was finally loaded with mouth-watering dishes.

Isabella sat at the table, eyeing the steaming food with a grin, "Smells amazing. I get to feast every weekend thanks to Hayden and Spring!"

"Quit yapping and dig in!" Susan smiled at Isabella and then dropped a chicken wing into Hayden's bowl.

"Thanks, Mommy." Hayden, being the good kid he was, started eating right away.

Susan was feeding Spring while chatting with Isabella.

"By the way, how's that thing I asked you to check out?" Susan couldn't even eat, her mind stuck on the budget proposal.

Isabella quickly swallowed her food and said, "I was just about to tell you."

"Got any news?" Susan asked, all anxious.

Isabella nodded. "Turns out my boss knows Capgemini Software Company pretty well. We've done a bunch of project budgets for them. I heard the owner's wife passed away recently, and he remarried. Now, the new wife and the owner's son are fighting over the money. Both of them are secretly skimming off the top, messing with the budget and projects. So, Capgemini Software Company is in a bad spot right now."

Hearing this, Susan nodded and said, "Something's definitely fishy. No wonder the accountant from Group Three kept hinting I should stay out of it."

"Exactly. The budget proposal you have is handled by the new wife. She wants to inflate the budget and then cut corners during execution, pocketing the difference. Your firm's boss knows about this, but Capgemini Software Company is a big client, bringing in several major cases each year. So, your director Linda doesn't want to piss them off and pretends not to see it. But the accountants working on it aren't dumb. If the budget is made and something goes wrong later, the accountants will be the ones in trouble," Isabella explained.

Susan thought for a moment, furrowing her brow. "What should I do? If I can't nail this case, I won't get the promotion."

"Honestly, that might be a blessing in disguise. Working under Fiona is a dead end; she'll always make your life hell," Isabella advised.

Susan frowned, fed Spring another bite, and said reluctantly, "I was planning to quit after getting the promotion."

"If that's the plan, why take on such a hot potato?" Isabella asked, puzzled.

Susan smirked. "I just don't want Fiona to think I'm a quitter. I want her to know it's not that I can't stay here, but that I choose not to."

Isabella laughed, "Susan, you still care what Fiona thinks? You two are practically enemies. Why let her opinion get to you?"

Susan looked troubled. "But if I back out now, won't it make me look weak? I don't know why, but seeing Fiona so smug just gets under my skin."

"Yeah, that would suck. Just do your best, and let the chips fall where they may," Isabella said.

Susan frowned and asked, "Does your boss have any good advice?"

Isabella thought for a moment. "He suggests you follow the standard procedures to complete the budget. Whether the client is happy or not isn't your problem. If they're not, the boss can always assign someone else. Just don't do anything shady or illegal."

Susan nodded. "I definitely won't do anything illegal. It's not just about my ethics; I have two kids to think about."

She looked down at Spring in her arms and then at Hayden, who was quietly eating beside her.

"If you realized this sooner, you wouldn't be so stubborn with Fiona." Isabella suddenly looked up and asked, "By the way, has Elliott been bugging you again?"

Susan rolled her eyes. "A leopard can't change its spots."

"That jerk!" Isabella said indignantly.

Seeing Isabella's concern, Susan comforted her, "Don't worry. I avoid being alone with him, and he doesn't dare do anything to me. Besides, I carry a weapon now. If he tries anything, I won't hesitate!"

"The fruit knife in your bag? If he really plays tough, do you think you'll have time to pull it out? Just be extra careful and call the cops if necessary," Isabella advised.

"I get it." Susan nodded.

That night, after putting Spring to bed and bathing Hayden, Susan went to the bathroom to take a shower.

During this time, Hayden, with his big, curious eyes, saw that no one was around. He tiptoed to Susan's purse, unzipped it, and after rummaging for a while, found the fruit knife Susan and Isabella had mentioned.
