Chapter 447 Unfinished Feelings

"Ladies, please leave here!" The organizer snapped when Sophia and Amelia just stood there like statues.

Sophia was about to clap back, but Dominic cut in, "Let's jet, haven't we made fools of ourselves enough?"

With that, Dominic slunk away, looking all defeated.

Realizing there was no point in sticking around, Sophia and Amelia had to swallow their pride and leave the party, tails between their legs.

The staff got busy cleaning up, and the party rolled on. The drama Sophia and Amelia stirred up was old news in no time.

But Susan couldn't shake it off.

The whole scene hit too close to home, reminding her of a mess from years back. Just swapped out James for Dominic and herself for Ethan, and it was déjà vu.

She flashed back to when her grandpa was on his deathbed. She'd gone to see him and ran into James, Sophia, and Amelia. Things got heated, and James slapped her to the ground. She wanted to fight back, but she just didn't have the strength.

Today, though, Ethan didn't take any crap; he gave Sophia and Amelia a taste of their own medicine. Just because Ethan wasn't just a guy; he was strong now.

'If you don't want to get pushed around, you gotta toughen up,' Susan thought.

"What’s on your mind? You’re totally zoned out," a voice broke her thoughts as an arm draped over her shoulder.

Susan looked up to see Seb standing there, holding some fancy white crystal trophy.

"What’s that?" she asked, eyeing the trophy.

Seeing her confused look, Seb flicked her forehead and teased, "What’s up with you? Didn’t you see me snag this award just now?"

Susan snapped back to reality. "Is that the Maple Valley Business Elite Trophy?"

Seb shook his head, "Look at other wives. Their husbands win this, and they’re over the moon. But you? You don’t even seem to care!"

Knowing she’d spaced out, Susan quickly grabbed his arm and said sweetly, "I’m super proud of you! I always knew you’d bag the Maple Valley Business Elite Trophy, so it’s no shocker. I bet you’ll nail the National Business Elite Trophy next."

Seb shrugged, "Your words put a lot of pressure on me."

"Pressure makes diamonds," Susan grinned.

Just then, a bunch of people started swarming Seb to congratulate him. Not a fan of small talk, Susan whispered, "I’m hitting the restroom."

"I knew you’d bail," Seb saw right through her.

"I really gotta go. You handle them," Susan winked and slipped away with a smile.

"Mr. Anderson, congrats!"

"Mr. Anderson, you totally earned this."

"Mr. Anderson, when’s the victory dinner?"

Seb juggled the trophy and smiled, playing the crowd like a pro.

Susan shot a quick glance at Seb from a distance before ducking into the safety passage.

She hit the restroom, did her business, washed up, took a couple of deep breaths, and then headed out.

Figuring Seb was probably done schmoozing, she made her way back to the banquet hall.

But then, out of nowhere, someone popped up in front of her!

Susan looked up and froze. It was George.

"Whoa, sorry! Did I freak you out?" George quickly apologized, seeing her startled look.

"Oh, no," Susan replied, a bit awkwardly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, feeling a bit jittery inside.

It was clear George had followed her. She really didn't want to deal with him right now. She didn't want Seb getting the wrong idea, and George had Jessica now. She didn't want to mess things up. Still, she felt a mix of gratitude and guilt towards George.

"The wedding's next month?" George asked.

"Yeah," Susan forced a smile.

They stood there in awkward silence for a couple of seconds before Susan said, "I should get back."

Before she could move, George grabbed her arm, looking desperate.

"Susan, why are you avoiding me?" George asked, frowning.

Susan glanced at his hand on her arm. Realizing his mistake, George quickly let go.

Susan frowned and said, "George, why don't you get it? Seb and I are married. For your sake, for Seb's feelings, and for my own, we need to keep our distance!"

George's face fell, and he ran a hand through his hair, looking crushed. "Susan, what about my feelings? I have to watch the woman I love marry my cousin, and you two are so happy. Do you know how much that hurts? It's like a knife to the heart."

George clutched his chest, his face twisted in pain.

Susan didn't expect him to still have such strong feelings for her. She thought he would've moved on or at least hidden his emotions. But here he was, laying it all out.

While she was touched by his feelings, it also weighed heavily on her. She felt for him but didn't want him stuck in this emotional mess.

"George, Seb is my husband. I have to put his feelings first," Susan said firmly.

She knew being gentle wouldn't help, so she had to be blunt.

George took a step back, looking defeated.

"Susan, did you ever have any feelings for me? Even a little?" George asked, his voice pained.

Of course, Susan had feelings for him. She saw George as a major part of her life. Without him, she might not have made it this far. But those feelings weren't about love.

George was a great guy, and she admired and trusted him, but he never made her heart race like Seb did.
