Chapter 1185 I Bought Them for My Girlfriend

Nestled in Daryl's broad and resilient embrace, Cecilia felt a moment of disorientation.

"Are you okay?" Daryl asked, looking down at Cecilia with concern.

At that moment, Cecilia was most worried about the camera and recorder in her arms.

She looked down and relieved to see that the equipment was intact. "Luckily, the equipment is fine."

Daryl frowned and said, "Your safety is what matters most."

"But this is high-end professional equipment, worth much more than me!" Cecilia replied sincerely.

"Nothing is more important than your safety," Daryl said seriously, looking at Cecilia.

Cecilia looked up and saw Daryl's earnest eyes, and couldn't help but be stunned!

His gaze told her he wasn't lying, but what was the point of saying this to her now?

She thought, 'Daryl, since you made your choice back then, why bother me again?'

Cecilia couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness and then pushed Daryl away.

Daryl took a step back, but after pushing him away, Cecilia realized her left foot couldn't move, causing her to wobble unsteadily.

"Ah," Cecilia exclaimed softly, and then he nervously came over again, acting as her support.

"What happened?" Daryl asked with a frown.

"My shoe," Cecilia said, looking down at her immobile left foot.

Daryl looked down and saw that Cecilia's sharp high heel had accidentally gotten stuck in the iron grate of the sewer.

No matter how hard Cecilia tried to lift her foot, the shoe wouldn't budge. Feeling helpless, she had to take off the shoe, holding the equipment in her hands and looking quite disheveled.

Daryl bent down and forcibly pulled Cecilia's shoe out of the sewer grate.

"The heel is ruined," Daryl said, standing up and holding the shoe in front of Cecilia.

Cecilia frowned when she saw the shoe because the high heel was broken.

"What should I do? I can't wear just one shoe," Cecilia said anxiously.

Hearing this, Daryl frowned and then suddenly broke off the heel of the shoe.

Cecilia was stunned.

Daryl squatted down, put Cecilia's left shoe back on, and then took off her right shoe, and broke the heel off that one too.

Cecilia then understood Daryl's intention.

He knelt on one knee and placed the shoe by her right foot, and Cecilia instinctively extended her right foot. He personally helped her put on the shoe.

Now, Cecilia's shoes were flat, and they were quite comfortable.

"How is it?" Daryl asked, half-squatting on the ground, looking up at Cecilia.

"Thank you," she said with a smile.

Daryl stood up with a sense of accomplishment.

They were very close, and Cecilia felt a strange but warm and melting sensation in her heart, complicated and hard to define.

"Let's go," Daryl said gently, bending down to pick up the hard hat that had fallen to the ground.

"Okay," Cecilia nodded and followed Daryl to the car.

The car was quiet, and Cecilia sat in the passenger seat, not daring to look at Daryl, feeling the atmosphere was a bit strange.

Daryl glanced at her and smiled, "Why aren't you talking?"

"I was thinking that the management of Fields Group is really strict, and the employees are very high-quality. No wonder the company is doing so well," Cecilia said politely.

After saying that, she felt she might have been too flattering.

Daryl smiled and said, "This is my father's decades of hard work."

"You came back from abroad and suddenly took over Fields Group. Do you feel any pressure?" Cecilia asked in an interviewer’s tone.

"Are you interviewing me now?" Daryl asked, smiling at Cecilia.

"Yes."

"Taking on the responsibility in a crisis naturally brings a lot of pressure, but now everything is on track," Daryl said, looking at the road ahead with a smile.

Although Daryl spoke lightly, Cecilia knew it wouldn't be that simple.

She glanced at Daryl. It had only been a year since he returned from Northstar City, but he seemed so much more mature now. His demeanor had changed, especially his eyes—they were sharper and more perceptive than when he was just a Ph.D. student. Maybe this was what being a businessman looked like.

Soon, Daryl parked the car in front of a department store on the busiest street in Maple Valley.

Cecilia looked out the car window and knew this department store was one of the top five shopping centers in Maple Valley. She couldn't help but ask, "What are we doing here?"

Daryl unbuckled his seatbelt and reached over to Cecilia's side.

Seeing his hand coming over, Cecilia panicked!

Noticing her nervousness, Daryl grinned and unbuckled her seatbelt before leaning back into his seat.

Cecilia blushed because she had overthought.

Daryl then explained, "This department store is also a property of Fields Corporation. Many of the clothing and cosmetics brands inside are owned by Fields Corporation, so the profit margin is considerable."

Cecilia nodded.

Then, under Daryl's lead, Cecilia followed him to visit the department store.

She had been to this department store before, but it was a high-end place, and she hadn't bought anything there.

She took a few photos in the store, and when she was about to leave, Daryl took her to a women's shoe brand.

The brand's decor and layout were very high-end, and even the female staff's attire and makeup were very sophisticated.

"What are we doing here? The photos are done, we can leave now," Cecilia asked in surprise.

Daryl smiled at Cecilia, then turned and picked a pair of silver lambskin high heels from the display, saying to the staff, "Please get me a size 7."

"Sure, please wait a moment," the staff said eagerly and went to get the shoes.

Cecilia realized he was buying them for her since she also wore size 7. She quickly refused, "I don't need shoes, let's just go."

As she turned to leave, Daryl looked at Cecilia with a half-smile and said, "I'm buying them for my girlfriend."
