Chapter 395 Resentment
Seb scribbled a number on the check, ripped it off, and handed it to Susan.
Susan snatched the check, gave it a quick look, and scoffed, "A million bucks?"
"Use it to cover the office building's penalty fee, and toss some compensation to Isabella and Maria. Should be plenty," Seb said, all serious.
Susan's eyes turned icy as she stared at Seb, her pride taking a hit. Did Seb think she was some puppet he could control with cash?
She threw the check back at him. "Mr. Anderson, you think throwing money around makes people your puppets?"
"Susan," Seb's eyes narrowed.
Tears welled up in Susan's eyes as she sneered, "Sorry to burst your bubble, but your money means squat to me. Keep it."
She spun around and stormed upstairs.
At the stairs, she paused and shot Seb a determined look. "I'm gonna make this accounting firm work, and you'll see what I can do!"
With that, she stomped upstairs.
Sitting on her bed, the more Susan thought about it, the angrier she got, and tears started streaming down her face.
She thought Seb got her, but today he just threw money at her like an insult.
Not long after, Seb barged in.
Susan, clutching her packed clothes and toiletries, brushed past him, heading for the door.
As she passed, Seb grabbed her arm. "Where are you going?"
Susan took a deep breath. "I don't wanna fight. I'm crashing in the guest room."
She tried to leave, but Seb tightened his grip and raised his voice. "You think I wanna fight? Susan, why can't you get it? Do you know how much stress I'm under at work? The company's driving me nuts. All you need to do is take care of the kids; you don't need to work or earn that chump change!"
Susan looked up at him, her heart aching. "Chump change? Where were you when Spring and I had nothing? That 'chump change' kept us alive. Sure, you're all good now and can support us, but what if one day you decide to kick us out? Are we supposed to starve?"
Actually, Susan was feeling bitter when she said this.
Seb had been dodging the topic of remarrying her, and she felt like she had no real place here, which had been bugging her.
Hearing this, Seb let go of her arm and shook his head, disappointed. "Is that what you think of me?"
Susan wiped her tears, trying to stay strong. "I gotta run errands with Isabella early tomorrow. No time to argue. I'll make time for the kids, but you've been MIA a lot lately. Shouldn't you make some time for them too?"
Susan stormed out of the master bedroom, clutching her clothes.
As soon as she stepped out, she heard a dull thud behind her.
She figured it was Seb punching the wardrobe.
She paused, feeling a sharp pain in her chest, but stubbornly kept moving to the guest room.
Sitting on the bed, Susan's tears overflowed.
She couldn't figure out why she and Seb kept fighting or why he seemed to have zero patience for her anymore.
Despite tossing and turning, she eventually crashed, exhausted from the day's drama.
The next morning, when Susan went downstairs, Seb was already gone.
"Mommy, Daddy came back!" Hayden, munching at the dining table, shouted excitedly.
"Mommy!" Spring, in Mary's arms, waved her little hands at Susan.
"I know," Susan said to Hayden, then walked over to Spring, took her from Mary, and sat down at the table.
"Mommy, why do you seem unhappy now that Daddy's back?" Hayden asked, eyeing Susan curiously.
Feeding Spring, Susan frowned. "You don't get it. Finish your breakfast and get to preschool."
Seeing Susan's mood, Hayden muttered, "Women are so complicated. When Daddy's not here, you can't wait for him to come back. But when he does, you're not happy."
"What are you mumbling about?" Susan wasn't deaf and caught his words.
"Nothing, just saying Kathy's porridge is getting tastier," Hayden said with a cheeky grin.
Susan couldn't help but smile, feeling a bit helpless with Hayden.
After breakfast, Susan played with Spring for a bit before heading out.
She had thought a lot last night. If Seb was so against her starting her own business, maybe she could stop.
But giving up felt like losing herself, and Seb's attitude was so harsh. Plus, Isabella had quit her job for her, and Maria had started prepping the company with her. She couldn't back out now.
Even though Seb didn't support her starting an accounting firm, things went surprisingly smooth for Susan today as she handled her business.
In the afternoon, Susan and Isabella finally got a chance to chill at a café.
"Susan, what should I do about my stocks? If they keep tanking, all the money I made recently will be gone," Isabella finally had time to vent about her stocks.
Susan, lost in thought, stirred her coffee absentmindedly, not really hearing Isabella.
"Hey, are you even listening?" Isabella waved her hand in front of Susan's face.
"Huh? What did you say?" Susan snapped out of it.
Isabella scrutinized her. "What's up with you today? You keep zoning out."
"Nothing," Susan didn't want to tell Isabella about her fight with Seb, worried it would kill their team's vibe.
"Hey, are you missing Seb?" Isabella, always carefree, forgot about her stocks and started teasing Susan.
