Chapter 311 Embarrassment
Susan spotted a woman sitting all awkward on the floor, not too far off, with a bunch of folks around her—Dominic, Amelia, and Ethan included. A hotel waiter was hustling over with a stretcher, which meant Sophia was hurt.
"Is she hurt?" Susan squinted and asked.
Isabella chuckled, "Didn't you see her head bleeding? When the lights went out, someone shoved her, and she crashed into a waiter with a tray. All the drinks spilled on her head. She fell, got stepped on a few times, and probably twisted her ankle."
Susan's mouth twitched hearing that. She thought, 'Dang, Seb's prediction about someone getting hurt actually came true, and it had to be Sophia. Guess karma's a real thing.'
Isabella crossed her arms, laughing. "Why didn't they just trample her to death?"
"Cut it out," Susan shook her head, exasperated.
"Hey, by the way, how'd it go?" Isabella quickly asked.
Susan shook her head with a bitter smile. "Just as I thought, Dominic's head over heels for Sophia and didn't believe a word I said. Lucky I ran fast; otherwise, his slap would've knocked my teeth out."
Susan almost mentioned Seb coming to her rescue but decided to keep it to herself since the whole thing was kinda embarrassing. She unconsciously touched her lips, feeling a burning sensation.
"Ah, he was blind by love. Look at Dominic; he's more worried about Sophia than Amelia!" Isabella's eyes were glued to Sophia's direction.
Susan turned to look and saw Sophia being carried away on a stretcher by several waiters. Dominic was leading the way, with Amelia behind him, and Ethan reluctantly trailing along.
Susan sighed and said, "We knew our chances were slim coming here. Forget it. I'll just have to deal with Fiona's mockery at work on Monday. I'll draft my resignation letter tomorrow."
"Exactly," Isabella patted Susan's shoulder comfortingly.
"Let's bounce," Susan said, pulling Isabella's hand.
But Isabella protested, "Wait, the cake here is top-notch and delicious. Let's grab a couple of pieces before leaving?"
"I'm not in the mood. Let's just go!" Susan had no appetite for cake. She pulled Isabella's hand and walked out.
After leaving the banquet hall and while waiting for the elevator, Susan suddenly saw Amelia also waiting. Sophia had probably been taken down first by the waiters, and the elevator was too small to carry everyone at once, so Amelia and Ethan had to wait for the next one.
Susan didn't want to engage with Amelia, but Amelia was visibly pissed upon seeing her and Isabella.
Amelia stormed over and snapped, "Did you come here just to cause trouble?"
Susan coldly replied, "I don't get what you're saying. What trouble? Who knew you'd be here too?"
Hearing this, Amelia's eyes shifted, and she suddenly laughed. "Oh, I see what's going on. No wonder you're all dolled up today. Trying to snag a rich guy, huh? Susan, since George dumped you, you're desperate to find the next sucker, right?"
Isabella couldn't hold back. She stepped up and pointed right at Amelia's nose, saying, "Whose dog got loose and is out here barking at people?"
"What did you say?" Amelia shot back, pointing at Isabella, and things got heated real quick.
Seeing that Isabella and Amelia were about to throw down, Susan pulled Isabella aside. Amelia was her beef, and she didn't want to drag Isabella into it.
Susan raised her chin and sneered. "Amelia, don't project your trashy standards on me. Who's trying to seduce rich men? Who's the real gold digger here? You know better than anyone!"
She shot a glance at Ethan, who was standing behind Amelia.
Susan couldn't help but pity Ethan. How was he putting up with Amelia every day? But then again, it was his own bad choices that got him stuck with her.
Amelia was fuming. She lunged forward, cursing and trying to slap Susan. "You're the gold digger! If I don't put you in your place, you'll think you can walk all over me!"
As Amelia's hand reached out, Susan instinctively stepped back, dodging her.
But Amelia wasn't backing down and wanted to keep fighting. Ethan, fed up with the onlookers' gossip and Amelia's drama, stepped forward, grabbed her wrist, and yanked her aside.
"What are you doing?" Amelia snapped at Ethan.
Ethan whispered, "Can you stop it? Aren't you embarrassed?"
Ethan had grown up in a wealthy family, surrounded by polite and well-mannered people. He had never dealt with such trashy behavior and felt humiliated.
But to Amelia, this was just cowardice. She pointed at Ethan's nose and yelled, "Ethan, are you even a man? I'm getting bullied, and instead of defending me, you want me to back down. How can you be so spineless?"
Amelia's voice only got louder, drawing everyone's attention in the hallway. Ethan, unable to take it anymore, snapped, "If I'm so spineless, why do you cling to me every day?"
With that, Ethan turned and stormed off.
Left standing there, Amelia stomped her foot in anger. She then turned to glare at Susan and Isabella, who were watching the drama unfold, and with a cold snort, she quickly followed Ethan.
After Amelia left, Isabella let out a sigh of relief, clutching her chest. "Finally, she's gone. I thought we were gonna have a full-on brawl today!"
Susan felt drained and turned to Isabella, "Let's get out of here."
Isabella nodded, and the two of them got into the elevator. On the way down, Isabella gossiped about how Amelia and Ethan ended up together and speculated whether Ethan would eventually marry Amelia.
