Chapter 1292 The Woman Who Cannot Have Children

The young, pretty woman with a hint of postpartum weight was clearly Auntie's daughter-in-law. The baby in the crib was sleeping soundly, dressed in blue cartoon clothes, looking adorable and lovely. Cecilia liked him instantly.

"Hey, Azalea, come check out my grandson," Auntie said, beaming with joy.

Cecilia helped Azalea over to the crib. Azalea carefully examined the baby, her wrinkles relaxing into a smile. "This little guy is so cute, he even looks a bit like you!"

"Really?" Auntie immediately touched her own face, grinning widely.

The adorable baby in the crib captivated Cecilia's attention. She glanced at the baby's mother standing by the crib and couldn't help but feel a pang of envy.

The baby's mother had a proud smile and a maternal glow. Her eyes and attention were all on the baby, occasionally touching his little face and checking his diaper with great care.

At that moment, Cecilia felt a deep sense of loss. She feared she would never experience such happiness. Her heart was heavy with a special kind of sadness.

"I always said you were luckier than me. A considerate husband, obedient son, and now a grandson. I'm so envious!" Azalea held her hand, chatting non-stop.

Auntie laughed, "Mrs. Azalea Fields, you're too good at flattering me. Who in the Fields family doesn't envy you? A capable husband who built a successful business, two handsome sons, and beautiful, gentle daughters-in-law. What more could you want?"

"What more? You beat me to having a grandson!" Azalea teased.

"Our son wasn't as ambitious, got married young. Unlike Daryl, who earned a PhD and came back to take over the family business. Don't worry, Daryl is so outstanding, he'll surely give you a little genius someday!" Auntie laughed.

"Such a shame about Daryl's great genes," Azalea muttered, then she and Auntie left the bedroom hand in hand.

Cecilia followed them, listening to their complaints and jokes, feeling lost.

As she left the bedroom, she glanced back at the adorable baby in the crib.

At the full moon celebration, Cecilia sat silently next to Azalea, surrounded by the chatter of Azalea and other relatives.

"That baby is just too cute. This family is truly blessed!"

"Yes, I've never seen such a beautiful baby."

"If you like him so much, go have one yourselves."

"At our age, even if we wanted to, we couldn't."

"So we have to rely on our sons!"

"What's the use of sons trying? The daughters-in-law need to be able to conceive!"

"Some women marry into a family for years and can't have a child. If a family ends up with such a daughter-in-law, it's really unlucky!"

"That's easy. In our kind of family, we can't be without heirs. If a woman can't have children, just have the son find another wife. She can't hold onto the position of the lady of the house!"

"Can't you be a bit more polite?"

"I'm merely speaking the truth. In families like ours, we have money and power. We marry a woman to wear gold and silver, eat the best food, live in luxury, just to serve our sons and have more grandchildren. What else do we want from them?"

"Just hope the son agrees to change wives."

"The son might like the young and pretty wife for a few years, but once the novelty wears off, even a beauty is just the same. We know this, we've been through it. Marrying a beauty, for rich people, is just about a few nights of fun."

"True. Why do we have status in the family? Is it because our husbands cherish us for building a life together? No! In their hearts, we're less important than the mistresses who please them. It's because we have sons. They wouldn't dare offend us because of our sons!"

"In the end, it's all about having sons. If you can't have a son, a daughter will do. But if you have nothing, your life will be miserable."

"You don't even have to wait for the second half of your life. You'll be divorced in the first half."

Cecilia's ears were filled with Azalea and the relatives' chatter and jokes.

Their words filled Cecilia's heart. Looking at the delicious food in front of her, she felt like she had a lump in her throat, unable to eat a single bite.

Though the relatives talked endlessly, they were right. A woman who couldn't have children wasn't accepted, not just in a wealthy family, but even in an ordinary one.

Cecilia had always been independent and strong, not caring about others' opinions. But seeing that beautiful, adorable baby made her feel dejected and sad. She might never be a mother or have such a lovely child.

Cecilia didn't know how she and Azalea got back to the Fields family home. Her mind was foggy.

Noticing Cecilia's low spirits, Azalea said, "You've been running around all day. You must be tired. Go upstairs and rest."

"Get it, Mom," Cecilia replied, hurrying upstairs.

Finally lying on the big bed she shared with Daryl, Cecilia felt dizzy and instinctively closed her eyes.

With her eyes closed, her mind was filled with the baby and the relatives' words.

It wasn't until dinner time that Cecilia forced herself downstairs.

Entering the living room, she saw Azalea sitting on the couch, watching TV.

"Mom, I'll go to the kitchen and check on the cook," Cecilia said, intending to head to the kitchen.

But Azalea smiled, "Cecilia, Auntie's little grandson is just too cute. Only a month old, and his little face is so chubby. I've never seen such a beautiful baby!"

Seeing Azalea's excitement, Cecilia could only agree, "Yes, that baby is indeed very adorable."
