Chapter 268 Argument
As Susan nudged the cup, a cascade of milk splashed everywhere, catching her off guard. The room fell into a stunned hush. Even George appeared taken aback, clearly not anticipating Susan's reaction.
With a sheepish grin, George swiftly took charge. "My bad, Slip of the hand there." Grabbing a mop, he set out to mop up the mess.
Seeing George wasn't mad and even took the blame, Susan calmed down a bit but still felt the issue wasn't resolved.
After cleaning, George took Susan's hand and asked, "Are you feeling off because you miss Hayden?"
"No." Susan shook her head and pulled her hand back.
"Then what's wrong? Is it pre-wedding jitters? It's normal to feel anxious," George said.
"No!" Susan looked at him seriously.
Seeing her serious look, George asked, "What's really going on?"
Susan, being straightforward, decided to ask George directly about what she saw earlier.
"I took a walk in the park today," she said.
George's eyes darkened, and he frowned slightly.
"I saw you talking to two people for a long time," Susan continued, hoping George would explain.
"Just ran into two acquaintances," George said with a smile.
Susan knew he was dodging. "Who were those two people?" she asked sharply.
"You wouldn't know them. Why are you..." George started.
Susan interrupted angrily, "I could recognize those two jerks even if they turned to ashes. Don't think I forgot them after two years!" Her voice cut through the tension, leaving George visibly deflated.
It was clear to Susan now. George had some sort of dealings with Patrick and Christopher which explained their presence."George, you've really changed my view of you. Two years ago, those two were acting on your orders, weren't they?" Susan asked angrily.
George couldn't meet her eyes; he looked regretful and dejected.
Susan sneered, "I never thought you were this kind of person. How could you do such a thing? I must have been blind to misjudge you!"
She turned to leave.
As she walked past him, George grabbed her arm.
Feeling his grip, Susan's anger surged. She couldn't accept that George had bribed Patrick and Christopher to humiliate her, then played the hero.
Susan always thought George was a true gentleman, helping her selflessly and loving her without expecting anything in return.
However, it turned out to be nothing but a deceitful facade. George had used dirty tricks to win her over. Susan felt her world crumble; she didn't know who to trust anymore.
George had seemed like a knight, always saving her from trouble. But those troubles were his doing, just to win her heart!
"Susan, please let me explain," George pleaded.
Susan's view of George was already shaken, but she remembered all the times he had helped her, so she held back her disgust.
"What is there to explain?" she asked, staring at him.
George, looking defeated, said, "Yes, I arranged for those jerks to bother you, but it was just to get close to you. You kept rejecting me, and I had no other way. I did it out of love."
Susan couldn't accept his excuse. Her voice rose. "Out of love? Do you know how much that incident hurt me? I had nightmares for days. I can't walk alone at night, and even during the day, I feel like someone is following me. I have no sense of security. Do you know that?"
Tears welled up in Susan's eyes.
She had been terrified, and now she found out it was all George's doing. The person she trusted most, her soon-to-be husband, had orchestrated it. She had even blamed Sophia and Amelia, but they couldn't have come up with such a plan!
Seeing Susan's pain, George's eyes reddened, and veins bulged on his forehead.
He reached out to hold her shoulders, trying to explain, "Susan, I'm sorry. It's all my fault. You can hit me, scold me, but please don't look at me like that."
Susan pushed him away, disgusted. "How do you want me to look at you? You betrayed my trust. I trusted you completely, and it turns out you're a hypocrite!"
She turned and walked out of the bedroom.
Hearing the front door close, George rushed out after her.
But the elevator doors had already closed. Susan looked at him coldly as the doors separated them.
George frantically pressed the elevator button, but it was too late. He ran down the stairs, desperate to catch up.
