Chapter 388 Don't Like Her Demeanor
Hearing this, Isabella couldn't help but get a bit jittery. "Susan, birth control ain't just your call. You gotta talk it out with Seb. The Andersons are loaded and powerful; they probably want more kids to keep the family biz rolling!"
Susan felt kinda stuck and looked down, saying, "Seb and I ain't official yet. I don't wanna have another kid without being married."
Isabella frowned and asked, "Seb hasn't brought up remarrying you?"
Susan shook her head.
Isabella, being the fiery type, couldn't hold back her anger and jumped up. "Seb's being a jerk. I'm gonna find him and make him spill. Is he just stringing you along?"
Isabella's voice got loud, catching the attention of nearby folks.
Susan felt embarrassed and quickly pulled her back down, whispering, "Can you chill out a bit?"
"Oh." Isabella realized she lost her cool and settled down.
Susan then said, "He said he ain't ready to remarry right now. I think he's got his reasons. This is between us, so you shouldn't butt in. It might just mess things up more."
Isabella knew Seb was stubborn and probably had his own thoughts. Plus, this was really between Seb and Susan, and she wasn't in a spot to meddle.
After thinking this, Isabella nodded but still threw in some advice. "But you gotta get a straight answer from him. If he keeps you hanging without a proper status, you might as well move out to dodge the gossip."
Hearing this, Susan nodded and smiled. "Don't worry, I'm not dumb. I'll look out for myself. That's why I haven't told him about the birth control yet. I'll find the right time to talk to him."
"Okay." Isabella finally felt a bit better and nodded.
Before long, it was late fall, and the weather got chillier.
Seb would head back to the central district every few days, saying Carol wasn't feeling well and he needed to check on her, but he never mentioned taking Susan and the kids along.
Susan felt really bummed, knowing Carol probably still didn't accept her. This was likely why Seb wasn't ready to remarry her yet.
Susan threw herself into work and stock trading, handing over her online store to a colleague 'cause she couldn't handle it alone.
With Seb's help, Susan's stock trading went smoothly, and in just a few months, she raked in a million bucks.
This was her first big score, and while Susan was happy, she also felt a bit bitter. Her first big earnings came from stock trading, not from her hard work.
Susan knew stock trading was a gamble and that she should quit while she was ahead. To really make it, she needed to invest in something solid.
Susan figured the million bucks she earned could buy a one-bedroom apartment in the central district, so she decided to sell her stocks.
Isabella called Susan a fool, saying making money from stock trading was so easy and she didn't get why Susan wouldn't keep going. She had invested just a little and made tens of thousands of dollars in a few months by following Susan.
Despite Isabella's nagging, Susan just grinned and stood her ground. She was done with the whole speculative business scene.
One afternoon, Susan bailed from work early to meet a client.
Seb had taken off to the central district again, Hayden was at preschool, and Spring was probably still snoozing.
So, Susan hit up the local supermarket, grabbed some meat, veggies, and fruit, and headed straight to her mom's place. She missed Catherine after not seeing her for a few days.
Susan knocked on Catherine's door, groceries in hand, all excited.
Soon enough, Catherine opened the door.
"Mom!" Susan hollered as soon as she saw her.
Catherine's face lit up, and she quickly stepped aside, smiling. "Susan, you're back?"
"Mom, I brought some meat and veggies. Let me cook for you," Susan said with a big smile as she walked in.
But as soon as she stepped inside, she spotted Dorothy chilling on the sofa.
Dorothy shot her a cold look, not even bothering to get up or say hi.
Susan was caught off guard.
Catherine quickly chimed in, "Susan, Dorothy's here to see me too. Why don't you both stay for dinner?"
Dorothy stayed silent.
Susan wasn't too keen on having dinner with Dorothy. Dorothy had a ton of issues with her, and she didn't want dinner to turn into a drama fest, which would just upset Catherine.
But seeing the hopeful look in Catherine's eyes, Susan felt a pang of sadness. Catherine just wanted them to get along.
So, Susan dodged the question and said, "Mom, I'll go wash the veggies."
That kinda implied she was cool with Catherine's suggestion. Susan took the groceries and headed to the kitchen.
While she was washing the veggies, she overheard Catherine and Dorothy talking.
"Mom, I'm outta here," Dorothy said, grabbing her designer bag from the coffee table.
Hearing that, Catherine frowned and said, "Amanda's in an international preschool with meals and accommodation. What are you rushing back for?"
"I've got a beauty salon appointment, and I'm on a diet, so no dinner for me," Dorothy said, making her way to the door.
"It's rare for you all to be here today, and you won't even stay to keep me company," Catherine muttered.
Dorothy shot a disdainful glance towards the kitchen and said, "Mom, you've got Susan to keep you company. I'll come another day. You know I might say something to upset Susan, and that'll just make you mad."
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Catherine frowned.
Before leaving, Dorothy added, "Mom, think about what I mentioned earlier. I'll be waiting for your answer."
Hearing this, Catherine's face darkened.
"Mom, I'm out!" Dorothy then walked out the door.
After the door closed, Susan tossed the veggies back into the bag, feeling super annoyed. She had come to see Catherine all happy, but running into Dorothy was a buzzkill.
Susan found Dorothy's whole vibe annoying now—designer clothes, shoes, bags, heavy makeup, and that overpowering perfume scent.
Susan then came out of the kitchen and asked Catherine, "Mom, what did Dorothy want you to think about?"
Catherine seemed a bit hesitant.
