Chapter 722 Invitation
Seeing the Snoopy doll, Susan's brows furrowed tightly!
The next moment, Susan reached out and snatched the doll from Isabella's hand. She looked down and was momentarily lost in thought.
Memories flooded back, vivid and bittersweet. She remembered the day she and Andrew had seen it in a shop window. She was barely twenty-two, young and easily enchanted by such things. It was a cheap trinket, only three dollars, but it had been the first gift Andrew bought her.
Back then, she was so innocent. For a long period, Susan used to sleep every night holding this Snoopy doll.
Thinking about those past events felt like fleeting clouds. The honest and sincere Andrew she once knew had somehow turned into a ruthless person.
To be honest, although Susan no longer had any affection for Andrew, she still felt pained. After all, they had once been in love. She didn't want to believe that someone she once loved could turn out this way.
"Susan, what's wrong?" Seeing Susan's troubled expression, Isabella asked with concern.
Susan glanced at Isabella and said, "This was a gift from Andrew. When we broke up, I returned everything he gave me. I didn't expect he still kept this."
Perhaps what Susan missed wasn't the time spent with Andrew, but her lost youth.
Hearing this, Isabella asked in surprise, "What does Andrew want?"
"I don't know," Susan shook her head.
"You need to be careful of him. Leon said he's not a good person!" Isabella warned.
Susan smiled and said, "I know, don't worry."
"Well, I'll get back to work then." Isabella then left Susan's office.
Susan couldn't shake the feeling that Andrew was up to something. Why would he suddenly send her this Snoopy doll after all these years? It had to be about rekindling their past, but why now?
While Susan was still puzzled, her phone on the desk rang.
Susan looked at the screen and saw it was an unfamiliar number. She frowned and answered the call.
"Hello, who is this?"
"Susan, it's Andrew." Andrew's voice came from the other end.
Hearing his voice, Susan felt disgusted. "Andrew, what do you want?"
"You should have received the Snoopy doll, right? I remember we were very frugal back then because we both came from poor families. You were very considerate of me back then. Even though we were dating, you were always worried about me spending money to buy you gifts. After my insistence, you chose this $3 Snoopy doll as a birthday gift. It was a bit shabby, but our love was pure." Andrew's voice was emotional.
Susan's mind was filled with memories of those days. This Snoopy doll was indeed the first birthday gift he gave her. She was only twenty-two then. Ten years had passed, and her youth was gone forever.
Recalling those memories brought a bit of bitterness. The past was hard to look back on.
The next moment, Susan interrupted Andrew coldly, "Really? I've long forgotten about it."
Susan knew Andrew wouldn't call just to reminisce. Now, during the critical time when he and Evergreen Ventures Group were dealing with Seb, he must have a purpose.
Hearing this, Andrew hesitated for a moment and then said, "I know you still resent me. What happened back then was my fault. I wronged you!"
"Andrew, is there any point in saying this now?" Susan didn't want to talk to him any longer.
"Susan, do you have time for a coffee this afternoon?" Andrew suddenly asked.
"Sorry, I don't have the time or interest. Goodbye!" Susan was about to hang up.
"Wait! Don't you want to know what's really going on with Seb and me? About our little feud?"
Hearing this, Susan's hand holding the phone froze!
Then, Andrew sneered, "This time, I'm going to crush him. Drive him out of Prosperity Group for good. You still care about him, don't you? I have a lot to tell you about your precious Seb. If you're interested, meet me at Serenity Cafe across from your office. Four o'clock."
After saying that, Andrew hung up.
"Hello?" Susan wanted to say something, but Andrew had already hung up, so she reluctantly put down the phone.
Susan looked at her watch. It was not yet 2 PM.
Susan didn't want to see Andrew, so she forced herself to focus on work.
But how could Susan not be concerned about Seb? She quickly turned on her computer and searched for news about the collapse at Prosperity Group's construction site.
The news only had a few words and some photos of the collapsed site. The Maple Valley government had sent many rescue teams, but no signs of life had been found in the rubble.
Looking at the photos of the collapsed site, Susan frowned. It seemed unlikely that anyone could have survived.
Prosperity Group's stock was still plummeting. It would likely continue to drop for the next two days. If the stock price dropped by more than 30% in a few days, the company would be close to bankruptcy.
As time passed, Susan became increasingly anxious. Although she knew Seb's capabilities, she wasn't sure if he could handle the current complex situation.
Susan knew she shouldn't disturb Seb at this time, but she couldn't help it. So she picked up her phone and called Seb.
But the call couldn't go through. Helpless, Susan called Leon.
After a while, Leon answered.
"Ms. Wilson?"
Hearing Leon's voice, Susan urgently asked, "Leon, what's the situation now? Where is Seb? Do you have any plans?"
Leon's side was noisy, with shouting, machinery sounds, and wind, making Susan even more uneasy.
The next moment, Leon loudly said, "Ms. Wilson, Mr. Anderson and I are organizing the rescue. We don't have time to talk now. I'll call you later!"
After saying that, Leon hung up without answering any of Susan's questions.
"Leon? Leon?" Susan called out twice, but the call had already ended.
After hanging up, Susan sat in her swivel chair, imagining the chaos at the collapse site.
Around 4 PM, after much hesitation, Susan appeared at Serenity Cafe.
