Chapter 1122 Settling Down

"Thank you." Cecilia nodded.

Then, Susan said, "Why don't you come home with me? My place is big enough, and Hayden and Spring really like you. Stay with us for a while, okay?"

Hearing this, Cecilia felt grateful but shook her head. "Susan, I know you care about me, but I don't think it's suitable for me to move into your place. I'll find a place to settle down first, and then I'll look for a job. After all, I should support myself and my kid, and I don't want to stay at your place because it's too comfortable. I need to face everything on my own."

Susan nodded in admiration. "Cecilia, you're stronger than I thought. How about this, you don't need to find a place. I have a small one-bedroom apartment downtown that's perfect for you. It's clean and fully furnished. I'll take you there now."

With that, Susan stood up and pulled Cecilia along.

However, Cecilia hesitated. "Susan."

Sensing Cecilia's reluctance, Susan knew she felt embarrassed about staying in her apartment.

Susan then smiled and said, "Cecilia, we're friends, good friends, right?"

"Of course." Cecilia nodded.

Susan continued, "Since that's the case, shouldn't we help each other when we're in trouble? You helped me and Isabella a lot when we were in Northstar City. Now that you're in trouble, of course, I want to help you. That apartment is just sitting empty anyway, so you can help me by looking after it."

"Thank you," Cecilia said gratefully.

And so, Cecilia moved into Susan's one-bedroom apartment downtown.

The apartment wasn't big, but it had a kitchen, dining room, bathroom, and walk-in closet. The location was excellent, and the neighborhood was nice and quiet, which made it convenient for Cecilia to find a job since her major was journalism, and most media outlets were downtown.

Susan even planned to introduce Cecilia to some media contacts, but Cecilia politely declined. She had studied for so many years to one day live a good life on her own merits, so she wanted to find a job by herself.

Susan also wanted to leave some money for Cecilia, but Cecilia firmly refused. She didn't want to rely on anyone because she knew she had to face her future on her own.

Although Cecilia felt sad, she knew she didn't have time to be sad. She was two months pregnant, and with seven months to go before giving birth, she needed to earn some money during this time.

After giving birth, she wouldn't be able to work for at least six months. She couldn't just sit around and do nothing, and her savings were running low. Fortunately, Susan provided a place to stay; otherwise, she wouldn't know what to do.

The next day was Daryl and Skylar's engagement day.

Cecilia barely slept that night and got up early the next morning, taking a newspaper to look for a job.

Finding a job was much harder than she had imagined. Either she was turned down for lack of experience, or the pay was too low with no room for growth at small media outlets.

So, Cecilia spent three days running around downtown, submitting dozens of resumes to various media companies.

During this time, she endured severe morning sickness, often having to find a restroom to vomit.

Cecilia spent her days submitting resumes and was so exhausted at night that she fell asleep as soon as she lay down. The next morning, she would get up early to submit more resumes. She had no time to think about Daryl or his engagement to Skylar because she needed to find a job to support herself and her kid.

A few days later, a well-known fashion magazine, Vogue Vista, in Maple Valley, asked her to come for an interview at 9 AM.

Cecilia knew that Vogue Vista was a reputable and popular magazine.

So, the next morning, Cecilia wore a black suit, matching shoes, and a matching bag, with light makeup to cover her pale face from morning sickness, and headed out.

At 9 AM, a staff member invited Cecilia into the office of Vogue Vista's editor-in-chief, Seraphine Lawson.

The office was decorated in white, with white furniture and a green plant on the desk, exuding a sense of fashion and brightness.

Cecilia stood in front of the desk, seeing a woman in her fifties, wearing a white blazer, large gold earrings, and an artistic gold ring, engrossed in her work.

Seeing Seraphine still reading documents, Cecilia waited silently.

Two minutes later, Seraphine looked up, surprised to see Cecilia already there.

"Sorry, I was so absorbed in the manuscript that I didn't notice you came in," Seraphine apologized, spreading her hands.

Cecilia smiled, "It's okay, a captivating manuscript can certainly draw one's full attention."

As she spoke, Cecilia observed Seraphine. Despite being fifty, she was well-maintained, with elegant makeup and fashionable attire, looking more like she was in her forties.

Last night, with nothing else to do, Cecilia had looked up Seraphine's profile online. It showed that she was fifty, married to a foreigner, and had built Vogue Vista from the ground up, with the magazine's sales steadily increasing in recent years.

Seraphine looked Cecilia up and down, then took out her resume and asked, "You just graduated from Northstar City?"

"Yes." Cecilia nodded.

"Our magazine focuses on fashionable urban living, targeting working professionals. Although you studied journalism and have overseas experience, you lack work experience. So, if you join our magazine, you'll have to start from the bottom, with the lowest salary. But if you truly have talent, there's room for promotion and raises. Do you have any objections?"

Cecilia shook her head. "No."

Seraphine was a bit surprised, then said, "If that's the case, go to HR to complete the onboarding process and find your department manager, Calista Day. She'll be your mentor."

With that, Seraphine wrote an employment notice and handed it to Cecilia.

"Thank you, Ms. Lawson," Cecilia said with a smile, taking the employment notice from Seraphine.
