Chapter 1148 Apology
Upon hearing this, Daryl furrowed his brow slightly and then said, "She must have learned the truth, so she's apologizing to you."
"Then I'll make it clear to her that we shouldn't keep in touch anymore." With that, Cecilia pressed the answer button.
"Cecilia, it's Skylar." Soon, Skylar's sweet voice came through.
Just a moment ago, Cecilia was thinking of cutting ties with Skylar coldly, but as soon as she heard her voice, she couldn't bring herself to do it.
In fact, Skylar was really pitiful. She was so sincere towards Cecilia, but Cecilia had been deceiving her all along. Cecilia suddenly felt a deep sense of guilt, especially since Skylar's fiancé was standing right in front of her.
"Cecilia, is that you?" Not hearing a response for a while, Skylar asked anxiously.
"Skylar, it's me," Cecilia glanced at Daryl and then replied in a steady voice.
Upon hearing this, Skylar apologized, "Cecilia, I'm sorry, I wronged you. I was so stupid. Why couldn't I just calm down? I just found out the truth, and I really don't know what to say to you."
Hearing Skylar's remorseful voice, Cecilia frowned and said, "Skylar, it's all in the past. Let's not bring it up again."
"No, I need to apologize to you in person, or I won't be at peace." Skylar insisted.
"Skylar, there's no need for that." Cecilia frowned.
"Cecilia, are you refusing to forgive me? I know I caused you a lot of pain, and a simple apology won't make it right. How about this, I'll come to you, and you can yell at me or hit me, just don't refuse to forgive me, okay?" Skylar was almost in tears.
"Skylar, there's really no need. I've already forgiven you." Cecilia certainly didn't want to meet Skylar.
But Skylar disagreed. "You're just saying that. I'm coming to find you!"
"Skylar, I'm not at home right now, and besides, you don't know where I live." Hearing that Skylar wanted to come find her, Cecilia panicked.
"I don't know your address, but your magazine's office surely does. I'll call your editor-in-chief right now. She's feeling very apologetic towards me, so she'll definitely tell me." Skylar laughed.
Hearing this, Cecilia quickly said, "Skylar, I'm not at home right now. How about we meet somewhere else?"
Cecilia was very flustered, so she immediately agreed to meet Skylar. After all, if Skylar went to her old place and found no one living there, she would definitely get suspicious.
"Alright, you pick the place," Skylar said happily.
"How about Aurora Café on Meadowbrook Lane?" Cecilia frowned.
She chose a place far from Daryl's apartment to avoid suspicion.
"Okay, see you in half an hour." Skylar hung up.
After putting down the phone, Cecilia saw Daryl staring at her with questioning eyes.
So, Cecilia explained, "Skylar insists on apologizing to me in person. If I don't agree, she'll come find me. Don't worry, I won't get entangled with her. I'll make it clear to her this time that we won't keep in touch anymore."
"That's not what I meant." Daryl's hand inexplicably clenched.
Cecilia smiled bitterly and said, "Actually, you and I, and Skylar, are from two different worlds. We can't be friends, let alone lovers."
With that, Cecilia turned and opened the wardrobe to find clothes.
Cecilia was over three months pregnant, and her lower abdomen was slightly protruding. She searched for a while before finding a long black trench coat. Fortunately, it was already late autumn, so wearing this coat wouldn't be out of place. The loose trench coat completely covered her abdomen.
Watching Cecilia stand in front of the mirror, trying to completely hide her belly, Daryl's brow furrowed tightly.
After a while, Daryl's voice sounded in the room. "I'll have Douglas drive you there."
Hearing this, Cecilia lowered her head and refused. "No need, Skylar knows Douglas. It would be better not to complicate things."
Hearing this, Daryl's mouth twitched, but he said nothing more.
Then, Cecilia grabbed her bag and left.
Half an hour later, Cecilia arrived at the agreed location with Skylar.
Soft music floated through the café, but to Cecilia's ears, it was a sad song.
Skylar was already there. Seeing Cecilia, she waved enthusiastically.
Cecilia smiled slightly and then walked over to sit across from Skylar.
"Cecilia, I ordered a coffee for you." As soon as she sat down, Skylar smiled sweetly at Cecilia.
"Thank you." Cecilia pulled her lips into a smile and looked down at the coffee in front of her, but she couldn't drink it.
Skylar looked at Cecilia and immediately grabbed her hand, saying, "Cecilia, I'm so sorry. I really wasn't thinking. You're so kind, you would never do something like that. I was too impulsive and misunderstood you!"
Seeing Skylar holding her hand, Cecilia felt uncomfortable and quietly pulled her hand back. "It's all in the past. Let's not bring it up again."
"I knew you would forgive me." Skylar smiled.
"Actually, in that situation, I would have misunderstood you too. It's not your fault," Cecilia said empathetically.
"Cecilia, you're so kind, always thinking of others. I'm so lucky to have a friend like you." Skylar looked at Cecilia.
Hearing such high praise, Cecilia felt like she was sitting on pins and needles. If Skylar knew she was pregnant with Daryl's kid, she would probably be very hurt and blame her.
So, Cecilia was very scared and worried that one day Skylar would find out everything. She didn't want to hurt Skylar, so she couldn't be friends with her.
At this moment, Cecilia looked up at Skylar and said, "Skylar, we're from two different worlds. We're not suited to be friends, so I won't be your bridesmaid, and we shouldn't keep in touch anymore."
With that, Cecilia reached for her bag.
Skylar stared at Cecilia in shock and said, "Cecilia, you're still mad at me, aren't you? You haven't forgiven me, have you?"
Sensing the hurt in Skylar's eyes, Cecilia couldn't bear it and explained, "I'm really not mad at you. We just aren't suited to be friends."
"Are there really different levels of friendship? Your reason doesn't make sense. Tell me, why don't you want to be friends with me?" Skylar stared at Cecilia and asked.
"This..." Cecilia didn't know how to answer her.
