Chapter 417 Let's Break Up

"Hayden, zip it and eat your food!" Seb's voice cut through the air like a knife.

Hayden shot a wink at Susan and then dutifully buried his face in his plate.

Susan glanced up at Seb, but he was still staring down, not even giving her a second look.

Feeling bummed out, Susan sipped her porridge, her mind drifting back to last night.

All she remembered was getting hammered and catching a ride home with Derek and Isabella. After that, it was all a blur.

Usually, Seb would’ve blown a gasket by now, but today he was quiet. Maybe he got home even later than she did and had no clue what went down?

"Mommy." Spring, sitting in Mary's lap, suddenly reached out to Susan.

Susan quickly reached for Spring. "Spring, did you miss me? Come here, I'll feed you."

Mary was about to hand Spring over when Seb's voice cut in again.

"Mary, don't spoil her. Feed her yourself. It's nice out today; take her for a walk after breakfast," Seb ordered.

"Okay." Mary, not daring to defy Seb, pulled Spring back and coaxed her to eat.

Susan bit her tongue, not wanting to start a scene in front of everyone. But seeing Spring's sad little face broke her heart.

Seb might play with the kids sometimes, but when he got serious, they were both terrified of him.

Soon, Hayden finished eating, and Kathy took him to preschool.

Spring also finished, and Mary took her out for a walk.

For a moment, it was just Susan and Seb at the table.

As Susan poked at her oatmeal, she thought, 'Maybe it's time to have a real talk with him. This place is suffocating me. I love the kids, but if this keeps up, I'm gonna lose it.'

Just as she was about to speak, Seb stood up, tossed the newspaper on the table, and said, "Don't come home drunk again. You're setting a bad example for the kids!"

He turned to leave the dining room.

Susan was fuming. Sure, she was partly to blame, but she wasn't gonna let him have the last word.

"I only drink too much sometimes for social stuff. Haven't you been drunk more times than me?" she shot back, glaring at his retreating figure.

Seb stopped, buttoning his suit. "I'm a man, and you're a woman. Ever seen a woman getting wasted every day?"

"Don't give me that crap. Men and women are both human, same rules apply!" Susan snapped, hating his sexist excuse.

Seb took a deep breath, like he was trying to keep his cool. "I don't wanna argue. I'm in a hurry."

And with that, he walked away.

"Is it always me who wants to argue with you?" Susan suddenly stood up, her voice sharp.

Seb just frowned and kept walking, not even slowing down. In no time, he was out of the dining room.

"Seb, stop right there!" Susan yelled after him.

Seb finally stopped, turning around slowly.

Susan stepped in front of him, looking him dead in the eyes.

For a moment, their gazes locked, and Susan's attitude softened. She spoke in a calmer tone, "I never wanted to argue with you."

Her voice had a touch of sadness, and it seemed to get to Seb.

"I..." Seb started to say something.

But Susan cut him off, "Seb, let's break up."

Even though she had prepared herself, saying "break up" out loud was still like a punch to the gut. This relationship had once filled her with hope, only to let her down every time. Happiness was as fleeting as fireworks.

Seb looked stunned for a second, then his expression turned complicated before he finally frowned. "You're still drunk. Have Kathy make you some hangover soup."

With that, he walked away.

"Seb, I'm sober. I'm serious!" Susan shouted at his back.

Seb didn't stop, his brows furrowed, and he quickened his pace out of the house.

"Seb." No matter how much Susan shouted, he acted like he didn't hear her.

Susan finally slumped down at the dining table, feeling defeated. She couldn't understand why Seb was dodging the issue. He said she was still drunk, but she had slept all night. How could she still be drunk?

Since he didn't want to face her, she would wait a few more days. After all, there was no rush. She could spend a few more days with Hayden.

Just as she sat down at her office, Isabella walked in.

"How are you feeling? Have you sobered up yet?" Isabella asked, plopping down in front of Susan.

"My head still hurts a bit," Susan said, rubbing her temples.

Seeing Susan's worn-out look, Isabella said, "What happened to you last night? You drank like a fish, and I couldn't stop you. You were totally out of it. Luckily, I was there. You can't drink like that when you're out alone. You wouldn't even know if someone took advantage of you."

Hearing this, Susan asked, "Did you take me home last night?"

"Who else? Derek drove you to your house," Isabella replied.

Susan frowned and asked, "Was Seb home? Did he see Derek?"

No wonder Seb was acting so weird this morning. He must be pissed that she went drinking with Derek again.

Although Susan felt a bit uneasy, she thought, 'I didn't do anything wrong; just had dinner with a client. What's the big deal?'

Isabella replied, "I'm not that dumb to let him see Derek. I dropped you off and left quickly. But I don't know if Seb saw Derek's car."

For a moment, Susan was lost in thought, wondering when Seb would be calm enough to talk about the breakup.

Did he not truly love Maya? And was he with Maya just for family interests and business development? Susan was suddenly confused.

At this moment, Isabella said, "I have something bothering me too."
