Chapter 515 Calm Down
"Seriously, you're taking her side? Are you even my kid? You've known her for like two days, and you're already team Susan?" Carol's voice got all sharp when she heard Rylee sticking up for Susan.
"Mom, I'm not siding with Susan. I'm just being fair," Rylee said, frowning.
Andrew, who'd been quiet this whole time, finally spoke up. "Rylee, no matter what, Mom's the elder here. Susan shouldn't be arguing with her in public. And Seb, well, he's been spoiling Susan today, but they just got hitched, so it's kinda understandable."
By the end of his sentence, Andrew's voice had dropped.
Carol felt a bit better hearing that and started liking Andrew more. "You all should take notes from Andrew. I’ve been wasting my care on you guys!"
"Mom, I'm just stating the facts," Andrew said with a smile.
"Tomorrow morning, I'll take you to check out some houses. We should get one that's fully furnished so we can move in right away. Once we're settled, Rylee can start prepping for a baby. Oh, and we need to buy a car. Let's get Andrew a Mercedes first; it's safe," Carol said, beaming.
"Whatever you say, Mom," Andrew nodded and smiled, trying to please her.
Rylee frowned and said, "Mom, Dad has to go to the rehab center tomorrow morning. Shouldn't we take him there first?"
Carol shrugged it off. "Seb and that woman can handle your dad. We don't need to worry about it. Besides, if I go, we'll just end up arguing. Let's just go buy the car and look at houses tomorrow morning. That's settled. I'm tired now; I'm going to rest."
With that, she got up and headed to her bedroom, not letting anyone else get a word in.
Rylee and Andrew went back to their guest room.
Sitting on the couch, Rylee complained, "You really should've helped me convince Mom. It's not right for none of us to show up when Dad goes to the rehab center tomorrow."
Andrew walked over and put his hands on Rylee's shoulders. "You know how Mom is. She and Dad both need to cool off. If they see each other now, they'll just argue again and make things worse. It's better to let them calm down first and meet later. Seb's got everything sorted, so don't worry. If anything happens, Seb will definitely call us."
"I guess that's all we can do. I'll call Dad tonight," Rylee pouted.
Andrew then smiled and said, "How big of a house do you think Mom will buy for us?"
"Mom will be living with us for now. If it's a villa, I think around 2,000 square feet should be enough," Rylee thought for a moment and replied.
Andrew shook his head. "2,000 square feet is too small. It should be at least 4,000 square feet!"
"Won't such a big house feel empty?" Rylee frowned.
Andrew smiled and put his arm around Rylee's shoulders, dreaming about the future. "Think about it, we'll need at least two kids, right? When they're born, we'll need two nannies, a cook, and a cleaner. Plus Mom, that's seven or eight people. Everyone needs their own space, and we need our own living space too. 4,000 square feet is the minimum."
Hearing this, Rylee nodded. "Yeah, you're right. The kids will need their own space too. So, we're talking at least six or seven bedrooms, four or five bathrooms, and maybe three living rooms."
"Exactly," Andrew agreed quickly.
"But the house prices in Maple Valley are through the roof. High-end communities are even pricier. Are we gonna blow all of Seb's $5 million?" Rylee felt a bit uneasy.
"$5 million is chump change for Seb. Plus, Prosperity Group is Mom's company too. It's only fair she helps us out with the house. Don't sweat it. Just think about what kind of decor, furniture, and decorations you want. We're about to have our own place. The bed should be big and soft so we can roll around on it," Andrew joked, whispering in Rylee's ear.
"Get outta here!" Rylee pushed him away, laughing.
Andrew then scooped Rylee up and carried her into the bedroom, both of them giggling.
Susan quickly walked out of the hotel and plopped down on a bench outside, letting the cold wind cool her off.
Soon, she saw Seb pushing Todd out, and Leon went to grab the car.
Susan stepped forward, feeling super guilty, and said to Todd, "Dad, I'm sorry. I lost my cool and argued with Mom."
Seeing Susan, Todd hesitated for a moment before sighing, "I know it's Carol's fault. You both need to chill and avoid each other for a bit. But remember, Carol is still an elder. Apologize to her another day, and everything will be fine."
"Yes, Dad," Susan nodded, thinking Todd made sense.
Then, Seb and Susan took him home.
After settling Todd in, Susan went upstairs.
Not long after, Seb came in.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, Susan didn't look up and said, "If you wanna blame me, go ahead. I really lost it today."
Seb didn't say anything. He walked over to Susan, gently touched her head, and then pulled her into a hug. "I know today wasn't your fault. Don't overthink it. Tomorrow we'll take Dad to the rehab center, and the day after, we'll take Hayden, Spring, Mary, and Kathy to Avaloria for our honeymoon. We just got married; don't let this mess up your mood."
Susan was surprised to hear this. She thought he would be upset even if he didn't blame her. But instead, he was comforting her, showing that he wasn't blindly loyal to his mom. Susan felt really touched.
She then hugged his waist and said, "Seb, Mom's disliked me from the start. No matter what I do, she won't be happy. I think we'll always be at odds."
"Don't be so negative. We've got a long future ahead. It's best if you can get along. If not, like Dad said, try to see each other less. But we still need to meet on major holidays. You're the younger one, so you need to be more patient," Seb said, stroking Susan's hand.
Hearing this, Susan nodded. "I get it."
"By the way, have you found a caregiver for Dad?" Susan suddenly asked.
"Leon has taken care of it. Don't worry," Seb patted Susan's shoulder.
