Chapter 197 Deeply Infatuated
Half an hour later, Susan sat by the café window.
She looked up and saw Maria in a bright green dress, smiling and walking over.
"Susan, you haven't changed a bit," Maria said, sitting down across from her.
Susan smiled at the radiant Maria, "You look stunning."
Maria touched her cheek shyly, "Thanks to your guidance and Mr. Anderson's promotion. I wouldn't be here without you."
"You work hard and are smart. You'll achieve great things," Susan said sincerely.
After some small talk, Maria hesitated, touching her coffee cup. "Susan, there's someone else who wants to see you today."
Susan frowned, confused.
Maria turned her head, and Susan followed her gaze.
A man in a silver-gray suit walked towards them. Seeing George, Susan's eyebrows twitched.
She thought, 'No wonder Maria called me just as I was leaving Maple Valley. George was behind it.'
Maria quickly whispered, "Susan, I'm sorry. Mr. Anderson begged me. I had no choice."
Susan's face darkened. She knew George was Maria's boss, but she still felt uncomfortable. She came because she considered Maria a friend.
George stepped forward, "Susan, don't blame Maria. It was my idea. If you're upset, blame me."
Susan sat there, silent.
George glanced at Maria, who awkwardly smiled and stood up. "Susan, I have to go. Let's chat another day!"
"Okay," Susan nodded, not wanting to embarrass Maria.
Maria smiled and left.
George sat down across from Susan, cautious.
Susan looked at him, unhappy, "Why did you have Maria invite me out?"
George hesitated, "Susan, I just wanted to invite you to a meal. I called several times, but you kept saying you were busy. Since it's the weekend, I asked Maria for help."
Susan stayed silent.
George was right. He had called her several times, but she refused.
Her relationship with Seb was already a mess. She didn't want to get involved with George, so she avoided meeting him. She didn't expect him to use Maria to get her out.
Seeing Susan's silence, George felt guilty, "If you really don't want to see me, there's nothing I can do. Seeing you're well, I'm relieved. I'll leave now."
He slowly stood up.
Susan felt conflicted. George had saved her life twice, and it seemed harsh to be so cold to him.
Just as George was about to leave, Susan said, "I've already ordered snacks and coffee. I can't finish them by myself."
George immediately smiled and sat back down. "I didn't have breakfast. I'm starving. How about we order more cakes?"
Susan glanced at the small cake in front of George. "If you're paying, order as much as you want."
"Sure," George grinned, calling the waiter to order several cakes and fruits.
As they ate, George tried to chat with the stern-faced Susan. "Maria said you're going back to Lindell Harbor?"
Susan sipped her juice. "Yes."
"If you want to work at Jessica's place again, I can—" George began.
Susan cut him off, "No need. I want to balance work and rest, maybe find some part-time accounting jobs. I've been overworked."
"Part-time sounds great. I have friends with businesses in Lindell Harbor. I can introduce you," George said enthusiastically.
"Mr. Anderson, please don't help me with everything. It makes me feel like I owe you. Also, don't come to Lindell Harbor to see me. We're just friends. I don't want to cross any boundaries," Susan said, frowning.
Susan knew his intentions. With her complicated relationship with Seb, she didn't want to involve George.
George felt disappointed but tried to smile. "Please don't feel burdened. I won't bother you."
Susan felt satisfied but uneasy seeing his disappointed eyes.
She stood up. ""Excuse me, I need to go to the restroom."
Susan quickly went to the restroom and vomited a few times, feeling better afterward. She didn't want George to notice her condition.
After washing her hands, she felt relieved and walked out.
Turning the corner into the hall, she accidentally bumped into someone!
The person was holding a cup of coffee, which spilled all over her chest. The brown liquid looked disgusting.
"Are you blind? This outfit is a world-renowned brand, and now it's ruined!" The fashionable lady yelled, her elegance gone.
"I'm sorry!" Susan saw the lady's clothes were indeed high-end and felt nervous.
A dress from that brand would cost at least ten thousand dollars, and this one seemed genuine.
