Chapter 208 A Paradise on Earth

Two days later, George drove Susan and their luggage to Saskia's house.

After about an hour, George stopped at a scenic spot.

The place was surrounded by mountains and a flowing creek. The water was so clear they could see shrimp and fish.

It was autumn, and the trees were full of reddening fruits.

Among the trees stood an old, tall house, like something out of a painting.

Standing there, Susan felt her breathing ease. The scenery was stunning, no wonder Saskia liked living here. The thought of staying for months excited Susan.

"Nice, huh?" George smiled, knocking on the courtyard door.

"I didn't expect such an undeveloped spot near Maple Valley," Susan said. She thought all the beautiful areas around Maple Valley had been turned into villas and tourist spots. This quiet, scenic place was rare.

Soon, a plainly dressed woman in her forties opened the wooden door.

"Brenda!" George greeted warmly.

Brenda Reed smiled back, "Mr. Anderson, you're back. This must be Ms. Wilson. You're so beautiful and elegant!"

"Hello, Brenda." Susan blushed at the compliment.

She was just wearing a loose black and white shirt, black leggings, and flat shoes. If Brenda thought that was beautiful, she was really good at giving compliments.

George told her about Brenda, Saskia's warm and genuine maid who lived nearby and had been with her for over ten years.

"Where's Grandma?" George asked.

"She's inside waiting for you. She just asked me to check if you had arrived," Brenda replied with a smile.

"Brenda, could you move the luggage inside?" George asked, leading Susan into the courtyard.

As soon as she stepped in, Susan loved the place.

There was a pebble path, a tall grape arbor full of green grapes, and a small vegetable garden.

"Grandma loves her homegrown vegetables, fresh and pesticide-free. Everything here is organic, perfect for you," George explained.

The main house was spacious and bright, with clean windows and old, valuable wooden furniture.

"Grandma!" George called out as he walked into a bedroom-like room.

Susan followed carefully, feeling like a guest.

"George!" An elderly woman with graying hair pulled George over, clearly fond of him.

"Grandma, how have you been?" George asked excitedly, hugging her.

"Good, very good," Saskia nodded with a smile.

After a bit of small talk, Saskia noticed Susan and gave her a once-over, then smiled, "You must be Susan, right?"

"Hello, Saskia." Susan quickly stepped forward and bowed respectfully.

"Grandma, she's a good friend of mine. Go easy on her," George said with a smile, holding Saskia's hand.

Saskia glanced at George, then looked at Susan and smiled, "I can tell Susan's a good kid, better than you!"

George touched his nose and smiled at Susan.

Susan took a closer look at Saskia. Though over seventy, she looked robust. Her features suggested she had been quite beautiful in her youth, and her eyes resembled George's.

Her simple attire still had an air of wealth. Given George's background, it was clear she wasn't ordinary. Otherwise, she wouldn't be living alone in such a beautiful place.

George stayed in the courtyard that night and left the next morning, leaving Susan alone.

At first, Susan found it hard to adjust, but she soon discovered Saskia was very disciplined.

Saskia woke up at six, exercised, had breakfast, then rested for an hour. She read the newspaper in the morning, took a walk after a nap, watched TV dramas in the evening, and tended to the garden in her spare time. Occasionally, she chatted with Susan.

Saskia didn't interfere with Susan's activities but had Brenda take good care of her.

Susan now understood why George had taken her to stock up at the supermarket. He had provided all the daily necessities because there wasn't even a supermarket nearby. Luckily, she had everything she needed.

Susan started going to bed early and getting up early, exercising with Saskia, learning to tend the garden, helping Brenda with cooking, cleaning the courtyard, and watching TV dramas with Saskia in the evening.

The days passed quickly, and Susan felt an unusual sense of peace. She realized she had never felt so calm in her life.

Here, there was no city noise, no worldly entanglements, and no one to argue with. Susan learned to handle things calmly and gradually became much more composed.

Two months later, Susan's belly began to show, and the baby inside started to move. She began to communicate with the child.

One evening, Susan and Saskia were watching a romance drama, both immersed in the deep love between the leads.

"Susan, does the child in your belly have any blood relation to me?" Saskia suddenly asked out of the blue.

Susan was stunned and didn't react for a moment.

What did she mean? How could the child in her belly have any blood relation to Saskia?

Seeing Susan's bewildered look, Saskia smiled slyly. "Even though my eyes are old, you can't fool me. I can clearly see George's feelings for you."
