Chapter 580 I Believe in Him

A few days later in the afternoon, Susan left work early, intending to go to the mall to buy a suitable gift.

At noon, Seb called to say that he would take her and the kids to celebrate Carol's birthday tonight, and Carol had agreed to let Susan come.

Although Susan was puzzled, she could only attend.

After all, she and Carol were bound to meet—one was Seb's wife, the other his mother. Perhaps maintaining a superficial peace was a way to solve the problem.

After all, it was indeed their fault regarding Catherine and Todd's issue, so she was prepared to endure Carol's difficulties and insults. These were debts owed by her mother, and she would repay them, hoping her patience would calm Carol's anger and make things easier for Seb.

Susan had just walked out of the office building with her bag when someone suddenly approached her, grabbed her arm, and pulled her to a secluded spot.

"What are you doing?" Susan, panicked, saw that it was Andrew who had pulled her and felt extremely annoyed.

Once they were in the alley, Andrew let go of Susan's hand.

Susan, very nervous, turned to leave. She was afraid of what Andrew might do to her in such a secluded place; if he tried to take advantage of her, she would be powerless to stop him.

Seeing her about to leave, Andrew stepped forward to block her path.

"Andrew, what do you want?" Susan glared at him.

Andrew lowered his head and then calmly said, "I just want to say a few words to you. Once I'm done, I'll leave. You don't have to look at me like I'm a virus."

"Nothing good ever happens when I run into you!" Susan turned her head away.

"You're a jinx; nothing good happens to me either when I run into you!" Andrew retorted angrily.

"Then why are you here looking for me?" Susan crossed her arms over her chest.

"You think I want to be here?" Andrew was full of grievances.

These past few days, he had been on edge, afraid that everything he had would suddenly vanish.

"Then say what you have to say quickly. I have things to do and no time to waste on you," Susan said impatiently.

She was really fed up with Andrew. Because of him, she hadn't been in a good mood for days.

"This is just great," Andrew muttered. "That day on the Maple Valley Bridge, some amateur photographer saw us...and took a picture. Of us kissing."

He'd only found out about it later. What kind of photographer snaps a photo of two people kissing without their permission? Didn't they know it could cause serious problems?

"What did you say?" Hearing this, Susan was stunned.

Fear, guilt, all kinds of emotions came rushing in.

How could this happen? How would she explain this to Seb?

For a moment, Susan took a step back, leaning against the wall, feeling utterly hopeless.

"What about the photos? How did you find out? Have the photos been seen by many people?" Susan urgently asked a series of questions.

"The photos are with Carol," Andrew replied.

"What did you say?" Hearing this, Susan felt like crying.

With this evidence, who knew how Carol would slander her? No wonder she agreed to let her attend the birthday party today; it was all to embarrass her.

For a moment, Susan pulled at her hair, not knowing how to cope.

"It was quite a coincidence. The photography enthusiast is the niece of Carol's good friend. That day, Carol went to her friend's place for a chat and happened to see those two photos," Andrew explained.

Hearing this, Susan was speechless.

Andrew then said, "Carol wants me to explain the situation in the photos at tonight's birthday party."

"What are you going to say?" Susan looked up at Andrew, knowing he wouldn't come to her out of kindness. He was also involved and couldn't escape responsibility.

At this point, Andrew suddenly spoke gently, "Susan, I explained to Carol that you and I have no relationship. You asked me to meet at Maple Valley Bridge that day just to complain about the unfair treatment you received from the Anderson family. You were a bit mentally distressed, saying Seb was neglecting you, and after so many years in the Anderson family, you had gained nothing. You just wanted to team up with me to get some of the Anderson family's assets."

Hearing this, Susan immediately interrupted him, "Andrew, you're even more shameless than I thought. You cleared yourself of suspicion, making me look like a greedy, unscrupulous woman with no morals?"

"Susan, this is the only way to explain it. We absolutely can't let anyone in the Anderson family know about our past relationship, do you understand?" Andrew said seriously.

Hearing this, Susan looked up and laughed coldly. "You're the one who's scared, right? You're the one with a guilty conscience, right? Andrew, I'm telling you, I won't let you ruin me. I'll tell Seb everything, tell everyone in the Anderson family that you're the most despicable person!"

With that, Susan turned to leave.

Seeing this, Andrew quickly pulled her back, viciously saying, "Calm down!"

"How can I calm down?" Susan was on the verge of breaking down.

Andrew grabbed Susan's shoulders, pinning her against the wall. "Do you know what will happen if you tell the Anderson family about our past relationship? They will think we planned this all along—one marrying into the Anderson family, the other marrying an Anderson daughter. They'll think we just want to seize their property and interests. If that happens, neither of us will be able to stay in the Anderson family, do you understand?"

"Seb will believe in my character," Susan said confidently.

Her biggest regret now was not telling Seb about her past relationship with Andrew earlier, which had put her in such a passive position.

Andrew, however, sneered contemptuously. "You really don't understand men. They're jealous creatures. A man like Seb, with his pride? He'll never forgive you for being with his brother-in-law."

Hearing this, Susan stared blankly at Andrew.

Seb was indeed jealous, and he couldn't tolerate her having any relationship with another man. But she believed Seb was a reasonable person. As long as she explained it well, he would believe her. Susan was confident in this.
