Chapter 184 Trembling All Over
After half an hour of zoning out on the bench, Susan finally headed back to the accounting firm.
As soon as she walked in, Morgan grinned and asked, "Susan, what took you so long to deliver that document?"
"Oh, it was a big client. I had to wait almost an hour," Susan fibbed.
Sitting down, Susan instinctively crossed her legs, worried about giving herself away.
Morgan leaned in and whispered, "So, was this big client an old bald guy or a young hottie?"
Susan's face turned blushed. 'Did I give something away?' she wondered.
She quickly checked her shirt and skirt. Everything was in place. No one would guess she wasn't wearing panties.
"What do you mean?" Susan asked, feigning confusion.
Morgan glanced around, then whispered, "I heard the big client is from Maple Valley and specifically asked for you to deliver the document to Caesar Grand Hotel."
Susan frowned. It wasn't surprising that Seb had clearly planned this. Otherwise, he wouldn't have found Jessica's firm, and Jessica wouldn't have sent her to deliver the document.
"That's why I asked if you knew the client. Susan, you seem to have great connections. You know Mr. Anderson from Maple Valley, and now there's another big client from there. Are you secretly a big shot in Maple Valley?" Morgan said, looking at Susan with admiration.
Susan laughed. "You're overthinking it. I know Mr. Anderson because I worked at his law firm in Maple Valley."
"And this big client? Did you work for him too?" Morgan pressed.
Susan sighed. "Yeah, he was my former boss. You're really overthinking it!"
"Such a coincidence?" Morgan scratched her head.
Susan chuckled. "I've just worked for a lot of big shots. Ms. Green is a big shot in Lindell Harbor, isn't she?"
"I thought there was some juicy gossip, but I guess I was wrong," Morgan said, turning back to her work.
Susan shook her head and tried to focus on her computer, but her mind was all over the place. She was frustrated.
From that day on, Susan stuck to commuting between the office and the dorm. Even for grocery runs, she went with a colleague, never alone. She figured Seb wouldn't risk grabbing her in broad daylight with witnesses around.
Susan also decided that if Jessica asked her to deliver documents again, she'd refuse or take Morgan with her. That way, Seb wouldn't dare make a move.
Susan wasn't sure if her precautions were working or if Seb had just lost interest. Either way, he hadn't bothered her for a whole week.
One afternoon, just before clocking out, Morgan came over with a grin. "Susan, Lisa's boutique has new casual wear. Wanna check it out after work?"
Susan smiled. "Sure, I need to buy some clothes for a relative anyway."
She had promised George a set of casual wear but hadn't gotten around to it. Of course, she didn't want Morgan to read too much into it, so she just said it was for a relative.
Morgan teased, "Relative? What kind of relative?"
"A close blood one," Susan replied with a smile.
"Yeah, right," Morgan said, clearly skeptical.
Susan didn't elaborate. She finished her work and headed to Lisa Moore's boutique with Morgan.
At the boutique, Susan picked out pants, a short-sleeved T-shirt, and sneakers, spending less than three thousand dollars after the discount. She sent pictures to George via WhatsApp before buying, worried he might be too busy to respond. To her surprise, he replied quickly with smiley faces, his size, and a reminder not to mess it up.
As dusk fell, Susan and Morgan left the boutique, each carrying a shopping bag.
Morgan grinned. "Lisa's husband is awesome. He gave us a 40% discount. These are new arrivals, and the biggest discount on old items is usually 30%. This brand's clothes are pricey."
Susan smiled. "Let's treat Lisa to a big meal next time."
"Definitely," Morgan nodded eagerly.
Seeing the two men's T-shirts in Morgan's bag, Susan teased, "Did you spend so much because you have someone in mind?"
Just then, Morgan's phone rang.
Morgan signaled Susan to wait and answered. "Hello? Yeah, I'm free. Okay, see you later!"
Hanging up excitedly, Morgan apologized, "Susan, I can't do dinner tonight. I have a date."
Susan smiled. "Gonna let him try on the clothes you bought?"
Morgan blushed. "You're so bad, but yeah."
"You have a boyfriend?" Susan was surprised. She spent every day with Morgan and hadn't noticed anything.
"Not yet, but I have a target. Gotta run, see you!" Morgan dashed off with her shopping bag.
After Morgan left, Susan spotted a courier company nearby and decided to mail the clothes to George right away. She walked quickly towards it.
As night fell and traffic picked up, Susan stood at a crosswalk waiting for the light. Suddenly, a black Bentley caught her eye. Seeing the license plate, she started trembling.
