Chapter 956 Ecstatic
Leon could only manage a nod, struggling to keep his composure.
Isabella quickly shifted gears, eyeing the half-washed veggies. "So, what's for dinner tonight?"
Leon stepped up, took the apron off Isabella, and tied it around himself. "I got this. You go chill and watch some TV. Four dishes and a soup, coming right up."
"You're the best! I'm gonna catch up on my shows then." Isabella dashed out of the kitchen, grinning from ear to ear.
She plopped down on the couch and turned on the TV. Glancing back at Leon in the kitchen, her smile slowly faded as she stared blankly at the screen. Keeping up a happy front was tough, but she had to do it to protect her fragile self-esteem.
In the days that followed, Isabella soaked up Leon's sweet love and meticulous care. It was pretty great, actually. Marriage was just a greedy wish.
One morning, Isabella was typing away on her computer when Dorothy rushed over, looking worried. "Isabella, do you have any pads? My period just started!"
"Yeah, I do." Isabella opened a drawer, grabbed a pack of pads, and handed it to Dorothy, who then bolted to the bathroom.
Isabella went back to typing but suddenly remembered something and frowned. She hadn't gotten her period this month. Checking her notebook, she realized it was over ten days late.
Leon always used condoms when they made love, so pregnancy seemed impossible. But her period was always on time, so she felt uneasy.
The whole afternoon, Isabella was on edge.
After work, she headed straight to a pharmacy, bought two pregnancy tests, and rushed home.
Luckily, Leon wasn't back yet. She quickly ran to the restroom.
Five minutes later, Isabella sat weakly on the toilet, staring at the positive pregnancy test.
Her heart raced, unable to accept the reality.
Thinking it must be a faulty test, she opened the second one.
Another five minutes passed, and the result was the same.
She was really pregnant.
Despite the shock, a bit of joy crept into her heart.
Would Leon change his mind about marriage if he knew she was pregnant? After all, he was the kid's father.
Leon wasn't the type to shirk responsibility. He had said that even without marriage, he'd be there for her.
Isabella slowly stood up, touched her belly, feeling a special connection. There was a little life growing inside her. She was already a mother.
She walked out of the restroom, picked up her phone from the coffee table, and called Leon.
"Hello?" Isabella's voice trembled with excitement, ready to share the big news.
"Isabella, I've got an important dinner with Mr. Anderson tonight. I might be back really late," Leon cut in.
Isabella's excitement deflated. "Okay. Try to come back early, I have something important to tell you."
"Alright." Leon hung up.
Isabella leaned against the headboard, clutching her phone, smiling like a fool as she daydreamed about their future with a baby.
Around ten o'clock, she heard the door creak open.
Leon walked in, not even out of his shoes yet, when Isabella dashed over and hugged him.
"Why are you so happy?" Leon, smelling of alcohol and exhaustion, asked, sensing her excitement.
"You're finally back! I've been waiting for you all night." Isabella wrapped her arms around his neck, beaming.
Her radiant smile seemed to wash away Leon's fatigue. He held her shoulders and smiled back. "Didn't you say you had something important to tell me?"
Blushing, Isabella handed him the item she had prepared. "See for yourself."
Leon took it, frowning. "What is this?"
"You've never seen this? It's a pregnancy test!" Isabella said, grinning.
Leon's frown deepened. He stared at the test for a long moment. "What does this mean?"
"You don't get it? It means I'm pregnant." Isabella blushed, looking down shyly.
Leon stood there, stunned, trying to process it.
When he didn't say anything, Isabella looked up and saw his shocked face. She smiled, thinking he was just surprised.
But then Leon asked, "Is this thing accurate?"
Isabella pulled out another pregnancy test. "I was worried too, so I bought two."
Leon took the second test from her. It also showed positive. His face darkened immediately.
"What's wrong?" Isabella had expected Leon to be thrilled. Seeing his unhappy face, her smile faded, and she looked at him anxiously.
Leon gently pulled her hands from around his neck, turned, changed his shoes, and walked into the kitchen without a word.
Isabella hadn't expected this reaction and started to feel uneasy.
She couldn't help but think, 'What does this mean? Is he unhappy about the pregnancy? Does he not want this kid? No, it can't be. This is his kid, and he loves me. How could he not want our kid?'
Determined to find out, Isabella walked into the kitchen.
She found Leon standing by the window, smoking under the dim light.
Seeing his troubled face, she approached carefully. "What's wrong?"
Leon turned to her, his voice gentle. "Nothing, it's just a bit sudden. Tomorrow, I'll take you to the hospital for a detailed check-up. I'm worried the test might not be accurate."
Hearing this, Isabella finally breathed a sigh of relief. She thought she had been overthinking.
