Chapter 1322 Cold as Ice
The next morning, Cecilia kissed the still-sleeping Thaddeus and left their rented apartment with her leather bag slung over her shoulder.
When Cecilia arrived at the airport, Daryl, dressed in a white shirt, was already waiting in the terminal.
Seeing Cecilia running over, out of breath, Daryl, wearing sunglasses, said coldly, "Hope you didn't forget your documents. I don't want any screw-ups holding us back."
Cecilia frowned, thinking, 'What's his deal? Is he worried I'll back out of the divorce?'
She angrily pulled out her documents from her bag and held them up in front of Daryl. "Got all my papers right here. What about you? Did you bring yours? I have a café to run, so let's not waste time."
Daryl scoffed. "That little café of yours is what you call a business? My time's worth more than that. I could buy a place like yours in seconds."
Cecilia held back her anger and said, "I'm here to divorce you, not to compare businesses."
"Yeah, I want this over with too," Daryl said, glancing at Cecilia before turning and heading towards the boarding gate.
Watching his retreating figure, Cecilia had no choice but to follow him.
Daryl had booked first-class seats, which was no surprise; he always traveled first-class.
Once seated, the flight attendant smiled and asked if they needed blankets or anything else.
Feeling annoyed, Cecilia glanced at the man still wearing sunglasses. She couldn't see his eyes, but he could clearly see hers. Feeling at a disadvantage, Cecilia closed her eyes and leaned back in the spacious seat to rest.
As the plane slowly took off, Cecilia drifted into a daze.
She hadn't slept well the night before, partly because she didn't want to leave Thaddeus and partly because she needed to process the impending divorce with Daryl.
Maybe she had felt a bit reluctant last night, but seeing Daryl's attitude today, she was determined to finalize the divorce as quickly as possible.
The air conditioning on the plane was a bit too strong, and Cecilia felt cold. As she hugged herself, she felt someone drape a blanket over her.
Opening her eyes, she saw the pretty flight attendant smiling sweetly at her. Cecilia knew the attendant had covered her with the blanket.
"Thanks," Cecilia said, returning the smile.
The flight attendant replied, "You're welcome," and walked away.
Cecilia glanced at the man beside her, still wearing sunglasses, leaning back in his seat. She couldn't tell if his eyes were open or closed.
So, Cecilia closed her eyes again to rest.
She remembered the last time they flew together was for their honeymoon. Back then, they sat side by side, his hand always intertwined with hers, and her head resting on his shoulder.
Back then, their eyes were filled with love and affection. Now, their gazes probably only held cold indifference.
Maybe it was because she hadn't slept well last night, or maybe she was overthinking, but soon, Cecilia fell asleep.
When Cecilia woke up, half an hour had passed.
She heard loud turbulence and some passengers screaming.
Cecilia opened her eyes in panic and looked around. The plane had hit turbulence and was shaking violently. Many children started crying.
Feeling anxious, Cecilia realized her head was resting on a familiar shoulder.
She quickly sat up straight.
"Are you trying to cozy up to me to dodge the divorce?" A low, cold voice suddenly sounded in her ear.
Cecilia furrowed her brows when she heard this.
He was wearing black sunglasses, and she couldn't see his eyes. His words hurt and angered her, making her face change color. Finally, she turned away and replied, "If you had any self-control, even an angel couldn't sway you."
"You..." Daryl was momentarily speechless.
Then, they both turned away, ignoring each other.
The turbulence worsened, and flight attendants began calming the passengers, many of whom were terrified.
Cecilia felt the plane shaking so much that her heart trembled, especially hearing the cries and shouts of other passengers. She couldn't help but feel scared.
She didn't care much about life and death, but she had Thaddeus. If anything happened to her, Thaddeus would be an orphan.
Seeing Cecilia's nervous expression, Daryl finally took off his sunglasses and scoffed, "Didn't think you'd be so scared of dying."
Cecilia glared at Daryl. "My life is my own. You don't need to comment on it!"
At that moment, the plane suddenly made a sharp turn, and the cabin was filled with screams. Items fell to the floor with loud thuds!
Cecilia gripped the armrest tightly, her brows furrowed, watching the chaos around her. She felt incredibly anxious.
How could she be so unlucky? Nothing good ever happened when Daryl was around. Thaddeus, her Thaddeus, was still in that western city. She couldn't let anything happen to her!
The plane made another sharp turn, and this time, Cecilia screamed.
The flight attendants, strapped in, used the PA system to calm the passengers.
"Passengers, please remain calm. The plane has encountered strong turbulence. Please fasten your seatbelts and stay seated. We are professionally trained, and our captain will safely navigate us out of this dangerous area!" The head flight attendant kept speaking, trying to soothe the passengers.
But the turbulence was too severe, and it showed no signs of easing. The air currents grew stronger, and the plane's shaking intensified, plunging the passengers into deep fear.
At this moment, Cecilia had a bad feeling. She turned and saw Daryl, who had been calm earlier, now furrowing his brows, his gaze meeting hers.
Their eyes locked, filled with complex emotions.
