Chapter 425 Reconciled as Before
Susan spun around and spotted a man in a black suit sprinting her way.
By the time Seb got to her, he was totally winded, hunched over and sucking in air like a vacuum.
Seeing him like that, Susan raised an eyebrow. She thought, 'Why's he so out of breath? Did he seriously run down the stairs? His office is on the twentieth floor, so if he did, no wonder he's like this.' And he was pretty quick; she remembered the elevator only stopped a few times on the middle floors.
Right then, Susan's heart, which had just been all tough, melted again.
Next thing she knew, Seb stepped up and yanked her into a hug. "You were walking so fast, I thought I'd never catch up!"
With her hands pressed against his chest, Susan could totally feel his heart pounding like crazy.
"Did you take the stairs?" Susan blurted out.
Seb took a breath and replied, all annoyed, "Both elevators were packed. If I waited there, I'd never have caught up with you. I can't let you go again!"
Hearing that, Susan opened her mouth to say something, but he just leaned down and kissed her.
His sudden kiss caught Susan off guard. They were right on the steps at the building's entrance, with people coming and going, including a bunch of employees from Prosperity Group. This was nuts!
Susan squirmed a bit, her face turning red.
Her eyes darted around, seeing a bunch of passersby sneaking glances their way, making her even more embarrassed and ticked off. But Seb was like a rock; she couldn't budge him.
Just when Susan was about to lose it, Seb finally broke the kiss.
"Seb, let go of me!" Susan gasped for air and snapped.
Seeing her all flustered and mad, Seb was in a good mood and grinned. "Can you keep it down? It was supposed to be a mutual thing, but if you shout, people will think I'm forcing you!"
"You were totally forcing me. How could it be mutual?" Susan shot back.
He just smirked, pinched her chin, and asked, "Are you really unwilling?"
She wasn't unwilling, but couldn't they find a better spot? This was a public area.
But Susan couldn't say that out loud, so she pushed him and said, "You should get back to work. I have stuff to do!"
Seb, pushed a bit away, grabbed Susan's arm again and pulled her back into his arms.
Susan, scared he'd pull the same stunt again, quickly tried to free her hand.
But Seb held on tight.
At that moment, Susan saw him pull out a deep red velvet box from his suit pocket. When he opened it, Susan saw a dazzling sapphire ring inside, sparkling in the sunlight.
Seeing the ring, Susan's eyes lit up.
The ring was a cluster design, with a deep blue gemstone surrounded by a bunch of tiny diamonds, a classic Princess Diana style. The gemstone's color was so mesmerizingly blue.
While Susan was still in a daze, Seb took the ring out of the velvet box and slipped it onto Susan's left ring finger!
Susan quickly yanked her hand back and demanded, "What are you doing? Why are you giving me a ring out of nowhere?"
Seb eyed the ring on Susan's finger and said, "I've had this ring on hold for ages. I was waiting to put it on you once my dad's stuff was sorted. Today's the day. How about we set a date to get hitched?"
Susan stared at the ring and asked, "Are you proposing to me?"
"Obviously." Seb nodded like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Susan glanced at him, then yanked the ring off and shoved it back into his hand. "You call this a proposal? No flowers, and you didn't even get down on one knee."
From the moment he chased her down the stairs, all the frustration Susan had been bottling up for days just melted away.
Susan sometimes hated herself for it. As long as he sweet-talked her, she'd cave in, but she couldn't resist him.
Seb just chuckled. "Come on, it's our second time getting married. What's the point of a big proposal?"
"Seb, I'm in this second marriage because of you, aren't I?" Susan suddenly snapped. Did he think being in a second marriage made her less valuable?
Seeing her flare up, Seb quickly wrapped an arm around her shoulder and soothed, "I was just kidding. You want flowers? Fine, I'll order ten thousand red roses for you right now."
He actually picked up his phone to make a call.
Seeing this, Susan quickly stopped him. "I was just saying. Do you really mean it? How much would ten thousand roses even cost?"
Seb grinned. "You know how to save me money; looks like you're ready to be my wife."
"Get lost!" Susan couldn't help but smile.
Just then, the call connected.
Seb spoke into the phone, "Leon, bring the car around."
After a quick response, Seb hung up.
Susan stared at Seb for a moment before it hit her. "You weren't ordering flowers; you were calling Leon to get the car?"
Seb didn't look at her, just put his arm around her shoulder and started walking towards the parking lot. "It's still early. Let's go pick up Hayden together."
"Why aren't you answering my question?" Susan, realizing she'd been played, was fuming.
Seb kept dodging. "Should we go out to eat as a family of four today, or have Kathy cook dinner?"
"You're so annoying, always tricking me!" Susan was still stuck on the previous matter.
Seb continued to evade. "Do you think Hayden will be stoked to see us picking him up together?"
"Seb, are you even listening to me?" Susan was so mad she grabbed his ear.
Seb winced, grimacing as he pleaded, "Babe, have mercy!"
"Now you know how to beg for mercy?" Susan, with one hand on her hip and the other pulling his ear, looked like a shrew, but she felt pretty satisfied inside.
"Babe, I'm a CEO, remember? If you do this, it'll be embarrassing at work, and people will say you're fierce!" Seb pleaded.
Hearing this, Susan was a bit concerned. She looked around; although there weren't many people, there were still some walking by. So she let go and muttered, "Who's your babe?"
