Chapter 1344 Terminal Illness
Upon hearing this, Cecilia believed it because Daryl was someone who knew how to prioritize things.
Then, Elijah said, "Daryl was really determined this time. Skylar pleaded desperately, saying she was confused, but Daryl still took her and Anya to the police station and reported them for child trafficking."
"They got what they deserved!" Cecilia said, showing no sympathy. She looked down at her son in her arms, determined to protect Thaddeus from any harm.
"There's something else you might not know. Daryl found out that the car accident when you were pregnant was orchestrated by Skylar," Elijah suddenly revealed.
"What did you just say?" Cecilia was stunned.
She had always thought it was just bad luck. She never imagined it was a deliberate act.
If she had felt a bit sorry for Skylar before, thinking she was desperate because of unrequited love, now Cecilia deeply hated her. Skylar had caused the death of her first child. Cecilia still remembered the heart-wrenching pain of losing her baby.
"Daryl always suspected it, but he didn't have solid proof. He said he's going to settle the score with her this time," Elijah said.
At that moment, two tears rolled down Cecilia's cheeks as she thought about her lost child.
Although Thaddeus's incident turned out to be a false alarm, the Fields family took it very seriously. They added two more security guards at the front gate, thoroughly vetted the backgrounds of the driver, gardener, maids, and cooks, and installed cameras inside and outside the house. Thaddeus became the focus of their protection.
Since learning about Skylar's actions, Azalea had been cursing her goddaughter at home. It seemed that anyone who posed a threat to Thaddeus was a threat to Azalea. She doted on the child immensely.
For several days, Daryl and Elijah were not at home. Cecilia thought they must be busy dealing with Skylar. The brothers were united in their anger over this matter, and Cecilia was waiting for justice.
One day, Cecilia was coming downstairs with a pack of diapers when she overheard a conversation in the living room.
"Mom, the decision on Skylar has been made," Elijah said to Azalea, who was sitting on the couch.
Azalea frowned and asked, "So soon? What's the result?"
"Fifteen days of detention," Elijah replied.
Hearing this, Azalea said, "She did so many bad things and only got fifteen days?"
"Mom, this time she only attempted to take Thaddeus. As for instructing Anya to take photos, it didn't cause significant harm to anyone's property or life. And regarding the car accident, Skylar's driver took the blame, so she wasn't held responsible. The police only gave her fifteen days of detention and a fine of a thousand dollars," Elijah explained.
Azalea frowned and said, "I heard the Tate family has been pulling strings since Skylar's incident came out. No wonder, a family like theirs would be disgraced by this."
"This time, we can only give her this lesson. Mom, we must never let Skylar set foot in our house again," Elijah said firmly.
Azalea nodded, "I know what to do. Skylar may be beautiful and come from a good family, but her heart is rotten. I even made her my goddaughter, hoping Daryl would marry her, and she tried to harm my grandson. Thaddeus is the most important now, and I won't allow anyone who wants to hurt him near our family."
"That's good," Elijah said with a smile.
Hearing the conversation, Cecilia furrowed her brows tightly.
She couldn't believe Skylar had done so many terrible things and still hadn't faced real consequences, only getting fifteen days of detention. A thousand-dollar fine? What did that mean to her? Probably the biggest blow to her was losing her dignity. High society valued that the most.
Cecilia felt very uneasy but knew there was nothing she could do. The Tate family was powerful. Even the Fields family could only match them.
However, Cecilia felt a bit relieved that Azalea had seen Skylar's true colors and would keep her distance. This way, Cecilia could feel at ease, knowing Thaddeus was often with Azalea.
Although Cecilia felt uneasy, life had to go on.
One day, Cecilia was about to go downstairs when she heard Azalea's sorrowful voice.
"Finn, do you think I'll live to see Thaddeus grow up? I wanted to see him receive an education from kindergarten through college, and then see him start a family. But now..." Azalea's eyes filled with tears.
Finn, said, "Don't worry too much. The check-up only showed a small tumor in your lung. We need further tests. Most likely, it's benign."
Azalea frowned, "You're just comforting me. Tumors in the lung are usually cancer."
Hearing this, Cecilia was stunned.
Azalea had a tumor in her lung? The news was too sudden for Cecilia to process.
"Why do you always think the worst? Mr. Daryl Fields and Mr. Elijah Fields are looking for the best specialists. In a few days, they'll bring the top experts to Maple Valley for a consultation. They'll come up with the best treatment plan. Even if the tumor is malignant, we caught it early, and it can be treated," Finn said.
Azalea looked at Thaddeus playing on the couch with loving eyes. She touched his head and said, "I've lived long enough. My two sons have always worried me. Now, I can't bear to leave Thaddeus. Otherwise, I would have joined my husband long ago."
"Don't say that," Finn said, tears falling.
Seeing Finn cry, Azalea stopped talking.
The living room fell into a heavy silence.
Seeing this, Cecilia decided not to go downstairs and returned to her room.
Sitting on the bed, Cecilia felt uneasy. Although Azalea had always been harsh on her, the news of her possible terminal illness made Cecilia sad. Thaddeus might lose someone who loved him dearly.
In the following days, the Fields family was shrouded in a heavy atmosphere. Everyone was careful not to make noise and tried to please Azalea, especially her two sons, who spent noticeably more time at home.
