Chapter 371 Unreasonable
Hearing this, Susan felt a bit bummed, but she didn't dare to talk up George in front of Seb. She was scared he might get all jealous, 'cause guys can be super possessive and petty about stuff like that.
Seeing Susan's helpless look, Seb said, "Don't sweat it. Yeah, he messed up and hurt me and Hayden, but he didn't mean any harm. Plus, he's been looking out for you and Spring for ages, and I appreciate that. We might not be as tight as before, but I won't treat him like an enemy. We're still family, after all."
Susan nodded, feeling a bit better, and then asked, "You knew about the car accident with you and Hayden?"
Seb nodded.
"When did you figure it out?" Susan pressed.
"I had a hunch when it happened, and turns out I was right," Seb replied.
Susan frowned. "Then why didn't you ever tell me?"
Seb smirked. "Back then, you had a lot of beef with me. Even if I had told you, would you have believed me? You probably would've thought I was just badmouthing George."
Indeed, she wouldn't have believed anything Seb said back then, especially not something bad about George.
Thinking about the past, Susan suddenly felt a weight on her chest. She took a deep breath and then glanced over at Ethan and the young, pretty woman sitting nearby.
"Recently, George helped Ethan win a property analysis lawsuit," Seb suddenly said.
Hearing this, Susan turned back, frowning at Seb. "Property analysis lawsuit?"
Seb explained, "Ethan was probably desperate. Dominic does whatever Sophia says, and if this keeps up, he might hand over the whole family estate to Sophia and Amelia. Plus, Amelia's been pushing Ethan to marry her, so he took a shot and asked George to help him with the lawsuit. He decided to claim the part of the estate left by his mom."
"And what's the result?" Susan asked.
Honestly, Susan could get where Ethan was coming from. Dominic was way out of line, forcing Ethan to marry Amelia. Who could put up with that? Plus, Freya had just passed away, and Dominic married Sophia, doing everything she wanted.
That Sophia was clearly after the cash. If Ethan didn't do something, Sophia would probably bleed the Robinson family dry in a few years.
"The result is Ethan got twenty-five percent of the Robinson family estate 'cause Dominic also had rights to Freya's fifty percent," Seb answered.
Even twenty-five percent was still something. Otherwise, Ethan wouldn't have gotten squat.
"Dominic was pissed at Ethan's move, so now Ethan's been kicked out of the house by Dominic. This whole thing's become a joke in Maple Valley's high society, but people generally feel bad for Ethan. At least he won public opinion," Seb said.
Susan met his gaze and smiled, asking, "Did you also get involved?"
Hearing this, Seb smirked. "I owed Ethan a big one, so I had to pay it back. Capgemini Software Company and Prosperity Group had a lot of business together in the past. Whether it was for justice or my own reasons, I had to help Ethan gather the dirt."
Susan nodded and then asked, "Did you owe Ethan a favor because of me?"
Seb smiled, squeezed Susan's hand, and said, "Don't worry; I've already squared that debt."
"Thanks," Susan said sincerely.
If it weren't for Seb, she wouldn't have made it through probation at Pioneer Accounting Firm; she might've even ended up in jail.
Seb's eyes flashed, and he leaned in, whispering, "I'd rather you thank me with actions."
Catching Seb's teasing look, Susan blushed and tried to pull her hand back. "You're so improper!"
But Seb tightened his grip on her fingers, protesting, "Your gratitude is totally half-hearted."
"It's your thoughts that are impure," Susan shot back.
"I'm only impure towards you," Seb said, looking deeply into her eyes.
Susan rolled her eyes at Seb, but she felt a warm flutter inside, her lips curling up, and her face showing a bit of shyness.
While Seb and Susan were eating and sharing tender moments, they suddenly heard a woman's voice. "Ethan, did you think you could hide from me by coming here?"
Susan frowned at the sound.
She turned her head and saw a woman in a bright red dress storming over to Ethan and the young lady's table, pointing at Ethan and giving him an earful.
The previously quiet restaurant was disrupted by her arrival. Even the woman playing the piano stopped, and several tables of guests turned their attention to Ethan's table.
"Amelia, I've made it clear to you. Stop being unreasonable," Ethan said in a low voice, glancing around at the people.
Ethan had grown up in a wealthy family, always surrounded by polite, high-society folks, and had never dealt with someone as crude as Amelia, so he was afraid of losing face.
"What do you mean you've made it clear? You've slept with me so many times, and now you want to walk away? I'm telling you, I don't need money. Paying me off won't work. I want you to marry me, right now. Let's go get the marriage certificate!" Amelia shouted, hands on her hips.
"Marriage should be consensual. How can you force it? Let me be clear, I will not marry you, and I don't want to see you or your mother ever again. Leave now!" Ethan, infuriated, threw his napkin on the table.
Ethan's words made the previously aggressive Amelia immediately tear up. She stared at Ethan, clutching her chest, and cried, "Ethan, you heartless man. I truly love you this time, giving you my all, and you treat me so cruelly?"
Ethan felt hot, fanning himself with the menu, showing no reaction to Amelia's confession. He despised Amelia from the bottom of his heart.
