Chapter 1189 Eyes Meet

Cecilia gazed at Daryl's eyes and firmly said, "There's no chance for us anymore."

As she said this, Cecilia felt her voice had already become hoarse.

Daryl's hand clenched into a fist.

They locked eyes for a moment, and Daryl's forehead veins started to bulge.

Then, Daryl took two steps back, nodding repeatedly, "Alright, if that's the case, I won't force you. You can go!"

Cecilia hesitated for a moment, then walked step by step to the table, bending down to pick up the diary placed on it.

Afterward, Cecilia slowly raised her head, only to see Daryl's back.

"I hope next time we meet, you'll cooperate with me to complete the interview," Cecilia said, her eyes welled up with tears.

Facing away from her, Daryl said, "Don't worry, I will keep my promise."

"Thank you, I'll be leaving now." With that, Cecilia picked up her bag and turned to leave the private room.

Cecilia walked out of the restaurant in a daze, suddenly stopping in her tracks.

Look at the restaurant's sign, she felt an indescribable emotion in her heart.

He had been facing away from her the whole time, so she couldn't see his face, but from his voice, she could tell he was downcast.

Although Cecilia was a bit worried, he was, after all, a man and surely wouldn't do anything rash.

Half an hour later, Cecilia sat wearily on her couch at home.

Daryl's words still echoed in her ears; he said he had never loved Skylar, only her.

Cecilia mocked herself inwardly. How could she have believed his words? Even if it were true, so what? She no longer cared about him; she would never love him again.

She shook her head and walked into the bathroom to take a shower.

The next morning, Cecilia sat at her desk, unable to focus on work for half the day.

Then, Seraphine called to ask about the progress of the interview with Daryl and urged her to complete it quickly, saying she would personally oversee it this time.

Cecilia had originally planned to meet Daryl in a couple of days, considering his bad mood last night.

But with Seraphine's urging, she had no choice. After hesitating for a moment, she dialed Douglas's number.

"Hello, Miss Thorne." Once the call connected, Douglas's voice quickly came through.

"Hello, Douglas. I'd like to ask when Mr. Fields will be available. I'd like to complete the interview as soon as possible," Cecilia said politely.

Douglas hesitated for a moment before replying, "Miss Thorne, I'm sorry, but Mr. Fields is very busy these days and probably won't have time. How about I schedule a time for you in a couple of days?"

Although Cecilia was a bit disappointed, she understood that someone like Daryl, the CEO of a large corporation, had a very tight schedule. So she nodded and said, "Alright, thank you."

After hanging up, Cecilia felt restless for some reason.

She was anxious, hoping to finish this interview quickly so her life could return to normal, as she and Daryl would no longer have any interactions.

True to his word, Douglas called Cecilia two days later, saying Daryl would have an hour the next morning and letting her choose the location.

Cecilia thought for a long time and suddenly remembered that Skylar had once interviewed at Riverside Tea Lounge, a place she liked for its serene atmosphere. She then arranged to meet Douglas there.

At nine o'clock, Cecilia was already sitting in a private room at Riverside Tea Lounge.

She sat on a chair, facing a rectangular table. Outside, a pond lay surrounded by swaying reeds. A gentle breeze made the reeds dance, and the white curtains in the room fluttered softly, creating a tranquil atmosphere, completely detached from the hustle and bustle of Maple Valley, an international metropolis.

She had prepared the recorder, notebook, and pen, and glanced at her watch. It was already the appointed time, but Daryl hadn't arrived yet, causing her to frown slightly.

She wasn't upset about him being late; rather, she felt an inexplicable nervousness inside.

This might be the last time she would see him, and she felt a sense of reluctance.

But no matter how reluctant she was, she had to abandon this wrong relationship. There was no future for them, and continuing to entangle would do neither of them any good.

Cecilia pressed her lips together, her eyes filled with determination.

Footsteps sounded outside, and Cecilia immediately stood up.

Douglas helped Daryl to the door of the private room, and Daryl pushed Douglas's hand away.

Douglas frowned and said, "Mr. Fields."

Daryl waved his hand at Douglas, indicating he was fine.

Douglas had no choice but to open the door to the private room.

Daryl took off his suit jacket and handed it to Douglas, then walked into the room, trying to appear energetic.

Douglas gave him a worried look before closing the door and waiting outside.

Seeing Daryl arrive, Cecilia didn't know what to say for a moment.

Wearing a sky-blue shirt and black tie, Daryl glanced at her and smiled slightly, "Sorry, I'm late."

Then, he sat in the chair opposite her.

Cecilia also slowly sat down in her chair and smiled, "It's alright. Mr. Fields, you're always so busy. We're honored that you could accept my interview."

She felt her smile was forced, and her words were formal.Daryl gazed at Cecilia for a moment, then suddenly lowered his head to pour himself a cup of tea. "Do you have to act like this in front of me?"

Cecilia was momentarily stunned and a bit at a loss. She then said, "Shall we begin?"

Daryl nodded.

Then, she began asking many pre-prepared questions, and he answered them one by one. She listened and took notes.

After finishing the routine questions, Cecilia looked down at the pre-written questions in her notebook and frowned slightly.

Noticing her subtle expression, Daryl said, "No matter what you ask, I'll answer."

Cecilia looked up and met Daryl's deep, profound eyes.

Her heart tightened, but her gaze still locked into his bottomless eyes.

The two of them looked at each other, their eyes filled with a whirlwind of emotions.
