Chapter 143 Enveloped in Happiness
Susan yelled into the phone, "Hey, are you crazy?"
She took it seriously because she knew Seb could do anything.
"I just want a goodnight kiss. If you don't give it to me, I'll come to your house," Seb said playfully.
Susan got scared and quickly said, "Alright, I'll send a goodnight kiss through the phone, so you don't have to come over, Mr. Anderson."
Seb burst into laughter.
Realizing she had been tricked, Susan said, "Are you messing with me again?"
"I'm serious now," Seb said, suddenly emotional.
Susan knew Seb well. When he got crazy, no one could stop him, so she quickly kissed her phone.
After the kiss, everything went quiet.
They could only hear each other's heartbeat and breathing through the phone.
Susan was intoxicated.
"Susan!" Seb called tenderly.
"Hmm?" Susan responded softly.
"I love you!" Seb suddenly said.
Susan was stunned!
It was the first time Seb had said "I love you" to her. Surprised and moved, Susan felt like crying. She had waited so long for these words, and Seb had said them so casually.
She was so happy she forgot to respond, just smiling broadly with tears of joy streaming down her face.
"Are you still there?" Seb asked.
"Yes, I'm here." Susan quickly nodded.
"Did you hear what I just said?" Seb asked.
"Yes, I did." Susan nodded again.
She was at a loss for words. She didn't know how to respond to Seb.
Should she say "I love you" back? That seemed too perfunctory. But she couldn't think of anything else.
Seb said, "Alright, it's getting late. Get some rest. Goodnight!"
"Goodnight." Susan thought, 'That's it?' but still clumsily said goodnight.
Seb hung up. Susan held the disconnected phone for several seconds before realizing the call was over.
She threw the phone on the bed and lay down, pouting and talking to herself, "Seb, you hung up so quickly. Couldn't you talk to me a bit longer?"
But it wasn't Seb's fault; it was her own slow reaction. She regretted not responding to Seb.
Frustrated, Susan pulled the blanket over her head.
The next morning, Susan was writing her resume when she got a call from Maria.
"Maria, is something wrong?" Susan asked worriedly.
Maria should be at work. She wouldn't call unless it was important. Could Fiona be giving Maria trouble again? Susan couldn't help but worry.
"Susan, I have good news. Fiona resigned," Maria said, trying to keep her excitement in check.
Susan was stunned.
She figured George must have listened to her and let Fiona resign to save face.
"Do you know why she resigned?" Susan asked.
Maria replied, "I heard she made a mistake at work, but I don't know what it was. Mr. Anderson never liked her. She was so arrogant as the finance manager, delaying reimbursements on purpose. Everyone complained, and I guess Mr. Anderson heard about it!"
Susan laughed, "Whatever the reason, it's good news for you. Now you can work in peace."
"That's true. I won't have to deal with her anymore. Susan, I've been so depressed these days," Maria complained.
Susan smiled.
She hadn't expected George to act so quickly. It seemed her notes were useful.
Maria continued, "Susan, you should have seen it. Fiona was furious when she was packing up. She kicked the door and broke her designer high heel! A lot of people she bullied came to watch. And she's Vivian's relative, right? Looks like even Vivian couldn't save her this time."
Susan just smiled at the gossip.
But she was genuinely happy for Maria. Now Maria could work peacefully, and Fiona got what she deserved!
Then Maria shared another surprising piece of news.
"Susan, I heard George and Vivian Law Firm is going to change its name," Maria said excitedly.
"Why would they change the name?" Susan asked, puzzled.
George and Vivian Law Firm was well-known in Maple Valley. Why would George want to change it?
Maria's voice lowered. "I heard Mr. Anderson and Vivian are breaking up. The firm's name comes from their names. If they break up, it wouldn't be appropriate to keep it. I heard Mr. Anderson wants to change it to George Law Firm!"
Susan frowned.
George and Vivian had been together for years. Was their breakup related to her?
She quickly dismissed the thought. She and George had nothing going on. Could Vivian have misunderstood?
Although Susan didn't like Vivian, if this was because of her, she felt a bit guilty.
"Susan, someone's coming. I'll talk to you later," Maria said before hanging up.
After putting down the phone, Susan thought for a long time. In the end, she decided not to call George. If this was really because of her, she should stay far away from him.
