Chapter 632 Bickering Again
"Marriage is a big decision," Susan said, struggling to find the right words. "I just hope you'll both think it through carefully."
After a long silence, George said on the other end, "Susan, after I marry Maria, I really won't be able to take care of you anymore. You need to look after yourself so you can take care of Hayden and Spring, alright?"
Hearing this, Susan's nose tingled, and memories flooded back. George had cared for her so much in the past, and her heart was filled with sorrow.
"George." Susan didn't know what to say and was momentarily speechless.
"I hope I won't cause you any more trouble in the future. From now on, I can only silently wish you well in my heart." George's voice seemed a bit choked up.
The next moment, before Susan could say anything, George hung up the phone.
"George?" Susan called out to the phone, but the call had already ended.
For a moment, Susan's eyes turned red, and tears fell.
Seeing this, Isabella quickly said, "How can a phone call make you cry? Hey, what did George say to you? Is he still going to marry Maria?"
Susan wiped her tears with the back of her hand and calmed her emotions.
Then she turned to Isabella and said, "I couldn't persuade him."
Hearing this, Isabella shook her head and said, "If they insist on doing this, we can't stop them. There's nothing we can do. We can only hope they live happily in the future."
Susan sat on the edge of the bed, feeling guilty and despondent. "I just told him not to disturb my life anymore, and he went and married someone else. Isabella, do you think I was too harsh? I can't imagine what will happen if they're unhappy after marriage. It's all my fault!"
Seeing Susan's distressed look, Isabella comforted her, "They both agreed to get married. It's their business, not yours. Don't take all the responsibility on yourself!"
"But..." Susan said.
Isabella immediately interrupted, "Don't think about anything right now. Just focus on getting better! Besides, don't worry too much. Maybe George and Maria will have a great life together! Think about it, Maria comes from an ordinary family and isn't particularly attractive. She's just an average girl. But George? He's from a well-off family, handsome and charming. How many girls in Maple Valley like him but can't have him? I'd say Maria is very lucky. Even if George doesn't like Maria now, who knows? He might grow to love her and spoil her. They might end up with a happy family, and Maria might even thank you with gifts!"
Although Susan knew the chances of what Isabella said were slim, she hoped it would come true so that George could be happy.
At noon, someone brought food again, and it seemed they knew Isabella was there too, as the food was in double portions.
Susan didn't need to guess; she knew Isabella's portion was arranged by Leon. Despite Isabella and Leon always arguing when they were together, Leon really cared for Isabella. Since Isabella injured her leg, Leon had been ordering takeout for her for almost a month. Even a doting boyfriend couldn't have been more attentive.
In the evening, Isabella looked at the sky outside and muttered, "Do you think he won't come to pick me up? Will he leave me to spend the night at the hospital?"
Susan knew who she was talking about and couldn't help but smile. "Well, there's good soup tonight. You can stay here with me. I can rent a folding bed for you."
"My leg hasn't healed yet, okay? If I sleep on a folding bed and my leg gets worse, turning me into a cripple, I might never get married!" Isabella joked.
Susan was about to say something when the slightly ajar door of the ward suddenly opened.
Leon, wearing a white shirt, walked in from outside, smiling and saying, "Even if you're not crippled, you probably won't get married!"
Seeing Leon walk in, Susan was stunned, then covered her mouth and laughed.
Isabella looked up at Leon, frowned, and then instantly got angry. "Will you shut up? What does my love life have to do with you, Mr. Forever Single?"
Leon immediately put on a serious face and retorted, "Hey. There's a fundamental difference between us. I don't want to get married, and you can't find someone to marry."
"Leon, what do you want?" Unable to out-argue Leon, Isabella's lips trembled with anger.
Seeing Isabella really angry, Leon's eyes darkened, and he immediately softened his tone. "I don't have time to argue with you. Can we go now? I came to pick you up in the middle of my busy schedule. You don't have to thank me, but there's no need to be so harsh with me, right?"
"I can go by myself. I don't need your help!" Isabella said angrily.
Hearing this, Leon hesitated for a moment, then said, "It's all my fault, okay? I have a lot of things to do. Let's go quickly!"
At this point, Leon nodded at Susan, and Susan smiled at them.
Then, Leon pushed Isabella towards the door.
"Hey, why are you in such a hurry? I still have things to say to Susan." Seeing Leon pushing her away, Isabella said.
"You've been talking all day, and it's still not enough?" Leon didn't stop and quickly left the ward.
"Susan!" Isabella shouted anxiously.
Seeing this, Susan quickly chased after them and shouted, "I'll be discharged in a couple of days. I'll move in with you then!"
"Okay, I'll go now. Call me if you need anything!" Isabella waved and shouted from the front.
Leon, however, pushed Isabella while saying, "You can't even take care of yourself. How can she rely on you?"
"Hey, I think you feel uncomfortable if you don't argue with me, right?" Isabella started bickering with Leon again.
"You're right. If I don't argue with you, I feel uncomfortable, and my day doesn't go well." Leon replied.
"You..."
Watching Leon's figure fade away, Susan could no longer hear their argument.
Susan couldn't help but shake her head and smile.
