Chapter 16
"Sir, I don't know you. You must have me confused with someone else." Susan acted like she didn't recognize Seb.
Seb's eyes locked onto hers, silent for a few seconds.
Susan felt his gaze cut through her like razor blades.
Out of nowhere, a memory of their night together flashed in her mind, making her blush.
"How can you not recognize me after that night? Ever heard of 'spending a day together as a couple can bring a hundred days of grace'?" Seb teased, running his fingers through her hair.
The elevator dinged, reaching the twentieth floor.
Feeling insulted, Susan frowned and slapped him hard.
Seb was stunned, not expecting the slap.
Taking advantage of his shock, Susan shoved him out of the elevator and ran.
Sitting in the finance department, Susan was still shaken.
She kept repeating to herself, 'Never run into that guy again. I'm so done with sleazy men.'
Just then, Isabella whispered, "Late on your first day, but lucky for you, the new boss Mr. Ramirez is in a meeting. You dodged a bullet."
Susan sighed in relief. Maybe her luck wasn't so bad today.
As soon as Seb entered the CEO's office, Leon noticed the red mark on his face.
"Mr. Anderson, what happened to your face?" Leon asked, surprised.
"Reschedule the new employee meeting to tomorrow. I have other plans today," Seb replied, ignoring the question.
"Huh?" Leon was taken aback.
"Why are you still standing there?" Seb snapped.
"Yes, sir." Leon quickly left.
"Bring me some ice," Seb added as Leon reached the door.
"Okay" Leon hurried off.
Seb stayed in his office all day, canceling all his appointments.
Leon came in a few times to deliver things, each time seeing Seb icing his face. Leon wanted to laugh but didn't dare, wondering who had the guts to slap Seb.
In the afternoon, the finance department manager, Carter Ramirez, came in.
Carter looked around, serious, and said, "I hope the new employees will work well with the old ones. Also, Susan is now the assistant manager of the finance department, effective immediately."
Susan looked up, wide-eyed in disbelief.
Carter smiled at her. "Do a good job and make the company proud. Everyone, back to work."
He then turned and went into his office.
Isabella came over and whispered, "You've been really lucky lately."
Susan touched her belly and whispered, "Must be the baby bringing me luck."
Isabella grinned, "I just heard some great news."
"What news?" Susan asked.
"Amelia's been assigned to the front desk," Isabella said, laughing.
Susan was stunned, then smiled.
The front deskwas a tough job, greeting people all day with no room for mistakes. The pay wasn't great either, usually for new interns.
"She won't last a few days before quitting and going back to selling insurance," Isabella said.
"Selling insurance suits her," Susan said flatly.
"Yeah, just like her mom, always selling to male clients and causing divorces," Isabella said, raising an eyebrow as she walked away.
