Chapter 795 Cold War

When Susan stared at him so intensely, Seb felt the pressure mounting and said, "I'll try to get my emotions in check."

"How are you gonna do that? It's been ages, and you haven't managed to adjust at all!" Susan shot back, her tone sharp.

"Are we really breaking up?" Seb's voice got louder, his eyes starting to water as he looked at her.

Susan was taken aback for a moment.

Break up? Even though she had prepared herself for this, hearing it out loud still hurt like hell.

Seeing her sad face, Seb pulled her into a hug, gently stroking her head, and closed his eyes in sorrow.

In his arms, Susan choked out, "Seb, I want you to be happy with me. I don't want you to stay with me out of guilt. I can't stand seeing you down all the time or going out drinking every night. I really don't want to see you like this. I want you to be the confident, proud, and lively guy you used to be!"

"Susan," Seb murmured her name, unable to say more.

Susan wiped her tears, then looked up at him and said, "Seb, I've thought it over. You should go back to the country first."

Seb frowned and asked, "What about you?"

Susan replied, "I want to stay in Northstar City for a while to take care of Hayden and Spring. These past years have been so hectic, with work and the kids. I'm really tired. I need a break and some time to take care of Hayden and Spring."

Seb stared at her, confused, and asked, "What do you mean?"

Susan knew Seb was smart and wouldn't buy that she was staying just to take care of the kids.

She reached out and slowly held his hand, saying, "Why don't we break up for a while to cool off? You can also get a change of scenery."

"How long is 'a while'?" Seb asked, his face blank.

"Two years," Susan said, looking deeply into his eyes.

Seb's eyes dimmed, and he asked, "Have you already made up your mind?"

Seeing his questioning look, Susan held his hand and said sadly, "I've thought about it for days. Forcing ourselves to stay together won't make us happy. I know you don't want to leave me, and I don't want to leave you either, but I think we need some time apart to figure things out."

With that, Susan lowered her eyes.

Seb looked up at the ceiling and said, "Do you know how long two years is? Do you know how much can change in two years? Can you be sure we'll still love each other after two years?"

Seb's questions made Susan's eyes fill with tears.

She had thought about this. Two years, seven hundred and thirty days, seventeen thousand five hundred and twenty hours. A lot could change. She didn't know who he might meet or what might happen during that time. Just thinking about it made her anxious.

Even though she felt uneasy, Susan tried to stay calm and said, "Seb, if our relationship can't handle a two-year break, is it because we're too fickle or our love is too weak?"

Seb frowned deeply at her words.

After a long pause, he said, "Susan, never test human nature. There are too many things we can't control."

"No matter what happens, it's all fate," Susan replied.

"Have you already made up your mind? Are you just trying to convince me today?" Seb asked, looking at her.

Susan tightened her grip on his hand. "Seb, I don't want us to keep hurting each other like this. I want to see you open-hearted, confident, and proud like you used to be!"

Hearing this, Seb's face darkened. He pulled his hand away from hers and said coldly, "I'm tired. I'm going to sleep!"

With that, he turned around angrily and lay down, pulling the blanket over himself.

Watching him turn his back on her in anger, Susan sighed softly.

Then, she also lay down, glancing at his back before turning over and staring out the window.

In reality, how could Seb sleep either?

The next morning, even though they hadn't slept well, both Seb and Susan got up early.

While washing up, neither of them spoke to the other.

After getting ready, Susan went downstairs to have breakfast with Hayden and Spring.

A little while later, Seb awkwardly walked into the dining room.

Susan glanced at him and ignored him, focusing instead on feeding Spring.

"Spring, eat more!"

"Mommy, can I skip kindergarten today?" Spring, wearing a pink dress, asked pitifully.

"Of course not," Susan said sternly while feeding her.

Hearing Susan's words, Spring immediately pouted and looked unhappy.

At that moment, Seb said, "Spring is so young. If she doesn't want to go, it's no big deal."

Hearing this, Spring immediately beamed and said to Susan, "Daddy said I don't have to go."

Already upset, Susan saw Seb spoiling Spring and immediately put the plate down on the table, snapping, "Fine, listen to your daddy. Let him take care of you from now on. Don't ever come to me!"

With that, Susan stood up and left the dining room.

Spring, who had been scolded, immediately pouted, and tears welled up in her eyes.

Seeing this, Hayden said, "Daddy, you're in trouble now. You've made Mommy angry."

"Just eat your breakfast!" Seb, feeling bad, immediately patted Hayden's head.

"Don't hit my head. Mommy says hitting my head will make me dumb," Hayden muttered, rubbing his head.

"I think the more I hit you, the sneakier you get!" Seb glared at Hayden.

"Daddy, I don't want to go to kindergarten!" At this moment, Spring cried, falling into Seb's arms.

Looking at Spring in his arms, Seb felt heartbroken but didn't dare argue with Susan again. He could only coax Spring, "Spring, how about I personally take you to kindergarten later?"

"No!" Spring shook her head.

"I promise to pick you up after school and buy you a new doll. How about that?" Seb coaxed again.

"No!" Spring kept shaking her head.

"Then what do you want?" Seb's anger flared up, and he slammed the table.
