Chapter 449 The Jealous Man
Seeing Seb giving her that stern look, Susan gulped down the cake, licked her lips, and flashed a sheepish grin. "Didn't you say you trust me? Do I really need to spell it out?"
Seb rolled his eyes and said, "I was just saving face in front of outsiders. Did you actually buy that? Jessica was clearly trying to stir the pot. You think I'd fall for her crap?"
Susan couldn't help but chuckle. She stepped up and gave Seb a thumbs up. "With your smarts, no way Jessica's little games would get past you."
"Cut the sweet talk and spill it. What was up with you and George just now?" Seb's voice dropped as he glanced around. Seeing no one within earshot, he relaxed a bit.
Susan almost laughed at his cautiousness but held it in.
Seb was super jealous and really cared about his image. Right now, she just needed to calm him down; no point in arguing over George.
So, Susan stepped closer, took Seb's arm, and said playfully, "I'll explain everything when we get home, okay?"
Seb's expression softened a bit, and he nodded. "That's more like it!"
Just then, Susan glanced up and saw George storming into the banquet hall, heading for the exit with a furious look on his face.
Trailing behind him was Jessica, looking all flustered and upset.
She was in high heels and couldn't keep up with George. She had to lift her dress and jog, almost tripping a few times.
Watching Jessica disappear at the entrance, Susan shook her head.
Jessica used to be stunning, confident, and ambitious, but George was her Achilles' heel. She'd changed so much for him.
"Why the head shake?" Seb asked, looking down at Susan.
Susan looked up and replied, "Jessica doesn't deserve George."
"Then who does?" Seb asked after a pause, lowering his gaze.
Seeing his intense eyes, Susan couldn't help but tap his arm. "What are you thinking? Plenty of people deserve him, but the only one who deserves you is me!"
Seb smirked. "You're so brazenly arrogant!"
"Am I wrong?" Susan grinned at him.
"You should say the only one I want is you." Seb pulled her closer and fixed a stray hair by her ear.
Feeling his touch and seeing his eyes that seemed to block out everyone else, Susan felt happy but whispered, "Can we not be so lovey-dovey here? This is a government party, and all the big shots are here!"
Susan could feel people glancing their way, and her face turned a bit red.
But Seb said, "There's no rule against being lovey-dovey at a party."
Susan looked around and sighed, "Haven't you heard that public displays of affection can backfire?"
Seb immediately pulled back his hand. "Really? Then let's call it a day."
Seeing him pull back his hand so fast, Susan couldn't help but laugh. "Mr. Anderson, getting superstitious now?"
Seb, the guy who never believed in fate, was suddenly all about her words.
Seb chuckled. "I don't mind not having a wife, but my kids can't be without a mom."
Susan pouted. "Hmph, so it's not me you care about, it's the kids."
Seeing her pout, Seb shook his head with a smile, grabbed her hand, and said softly, "Jealous of your own kids now?"
"Aren't you the same way?" Susan shot back.
Seb held her hand and said as they walked, "Some of my business buddies over there wanna meet you."
Susan frowned. "No way, I'm not good with people."
It wasn't that she was scared of meeting people; she just didn't want to deal with them. Smiling all the time was exhausting, and her face was already stiff from today.
"You're afraid of nothing, but you're scared of meeting people?" Seb's smile grew wider.
"Get lost," Susan retorted.
They started bickering again, but as soon as they reached Seb's friends, Susan put on a smile and greeted them warmly. Seb was pretty pleased with her performance.
Before long, the party wrapped up.
Leon drove Seb and Susan away from the Hilton Hotel.
Halfway through, the traffic ahead got super congested.
Seb looked ahead and asked, "Why's there a traffic jam at this hour?"
He checked his watch; it was already past ten.
Leon, from the front, replied, "A building ahead is on fire. The fire trucks are putting it out, so there's a jam."
Seb frowned. "Looks like we're stuck for a while."
Susan glanced out the window and suddenly saw two people arguing on the brightly lit roadside.
Seeing who it was, she was stunned!
"What's up?" Seb asked, noticing Susan staring out the window.
The roadside was only about five meters away, and with the bright streetlights, the two arguing people were clearly visible.
"Dominic and Sophia are arguing," Susan said calmly.
Seb rolled down the window, and the sound of Dominic and Sophia's argument drifted into the car.
"Dominic, I can't believe you're such a coward. Watching me get beaten and not saying a word. You won't even hit that brat. You really disappoint me!" Sophia yelled at Dominic.
Dominic, looking dejected, said, "You guys started the trouble. Today was supposed to be a good party. Did you forget why we went there? We were seeking investment from business people, but your actions have completely embarrassed me!"
Sophia exploded, pointing at Dominic and cursing, "You're blaming us? It's your own incompetence that can't give me and Amelia a good life!"
Dominic snapped back, "Since you married me, how have I treated you and Amelia? You live a wealthy life, and you do whatever you want with my company. What more do you want? The company is in this state because of you!"
