Chapter 1285 Unfilial Son

"Stop trying to convince me, Daryl. I know the truth - my body can't give you children. I'm useless to you," Cecilia's voice grew more frantic with each word. Suddenly, she felt the world spinning, her eyes rolled back, and she collapsed to the side.

She had been wandering around for hours, sitting here for half the day, and hadn't eaten anything. Fainting was inevitable.

Seeing Cecilia fall, Daryl's brow furrowed. He stepped forward and caught her firmly in his arms.

"Cecilia? Cecilia?" Daryl called out urgently, but Cecilia's eyes remained closed, unconscious.

Cecilia felt weak all over. Though she sensed she was lying on a soft bed, her body was still exhausted.

In her dream, Cecilia and Daryl were trapped in a cycle of messy breakups and tearful reunions—one minute sobbing in each other's arms, the next laughing through their shared pain.

After another separation from Daryl, Cecilia suddenly opened her heavy eyelids, drenched in cold sweat.

She turned her head and saw the deep night outside. The hazy moonlight filtered through the window, casting a silver glow inside the room.

A dim wall lamp was lit in the room. The large bed held only her. Cecilia sat up gently, listening intently. The room was silent; Daryl was nowhere to be found.

Cecilia looked down at her body, now dressed in pajamas. She leaned against the headboard, holding her still dizzy head, trying to recall what happened before she fainted.

She had sat on the bench for half the day, Daryl found her, she lashed out at him, and having not eaten all day, she fainted from the excitement and lack of strength. She couldn't remember anything after that.

After sitting on the bed for a while without seeing Daryl return, Cecilia furrowed her brow, then slipped on her shoes, and quietly walked out of the room.

As Cecilia reached the staircase, she heard clear arguing from downstairs.

Listening closely, she heard both Azalea and Daryl's voices. She frowned, standing there, trying to hear if they were arguing about her again.

"Daryl, if I hadn't taken her to the doctor today, we'd still be in the dark. She was pregnant with another man's child and had an abortion. How can you treat her like she's precious? You're blind!" Azalea's voice was filled with emotion.

Daryl frowned and replied, "Mom, Cecilia was pregnant, but it wasn't an abortion; it was a miscarriage."

Azalea's eyes widened in disbelief. "You knew?"

"Of course," Daryl nodded.

Azalea's face twisted in anger. "If you knew, why did you marry her? Are you bewitched by her?"

"Mom, the child Cecilia lost was mine," Daryl said.

"What? Your child? When did this happen? So, you knew each other long before?" Azalea squinted at Daryl, questioning.

Daryl hesitated, then nodded. "We met while studying in Northstar City and fell in love."

Azalea stepped back, shocked. "So, you broke off your engagement with Skylar for Cecilia?"

Daryl nodded reluctantly. "Yeah."

Azalea paused, then anger surged within her. She raised her hand and slapped Daryl across the face.

The sound echoed sharply in the air.

"Mom, what are you doing?" Elijah, standing nearby, stepped forward, seeing his mother hit Daryl.

Azalea pointed at Daryl, her anger boiling. "You're a disgrace! I thought you were the most dutiful, responsible child. I've always been proud to have a son like you. But you disregarded our family's interests for this woman. Do you know Fields Corporation almost couldn't recover because of your impulsiveness? The whole family paid for your actions!"

Daryl remained silent for a long time before speaking. "Mom, I wasn't impulsive. I thought it through. Since I was a teenager, you and Dad taught me to prioritize Fields Corporation's growth. I've always held myself to that standard. Even though I didn't want to go into business, I had to take over Fields Corporation. I can sacrifice everything for Fields Corporation, except my happiness. Mom, I've lost my dreams. Do you want me to lose my happiness too? My happiness doesn't affect Fields Corporation's success. I married Cecilia, and Fields Corporation is doing well. It may not have the rapid growth you and Dad envisioned with a merger with Tate Corporation, but I don't regret it. I married the woman I love, and we're happy. Why can't we live happily together?"

Azalea slowly sank onto the sofa.

"Mom, are you okay?" Elijah asked quickly.

Azalea waved her hand at her younger son, indicating she was fine, though clearly upset.

After calming down, Azalea said, "Fine, that's all in the past. I won't argue with you anymore. Your father's health isn't good, so none of you can tell him about this! Now, let's discuss your future with Cecilia."

"Mom, Cecilia and I are married, and we won't get divorced," Daryl said firmly.

Azalea sneered. "Since your father and I agreed to let her into the family, I intended for her to be the Fields family's daughter-in-law. But now the doctor says she can't have children. If we were ordinary people, it wouldn't matter. But the Fields family and Fields Corporation need an heir. She can't have children, so she can't stay in the family. But don't worry, I'll make sure she gets enough money to last a lifetime. It's our family's way of compensating her."

Daryl stepped forward, frowning. "Mom, I won't agree to that. Cecilia and I will never divorce. The doctor said her chances of getting pregnant are low, but didn't definitively say she can't. There might be a miracle."

"Miracle? When will that happen? Five years, ten years, twenty years?" Azalea's voice was icy cold.
