Chapter 707 Rest Assured

Isabella's words, while reassuring, left a bittersweet taste in Susan's mouth. She was relieved that Seb had outmaneuvered Andrew, happy for his success, yet a tangle of other emotions lingered in her heart.

In the late afternoon, just before getting off work, Susan received a text message on her phone.

Seb: [Coming over for dinner tonight. Make four dishes and a soup.]

Seeing the message, Susan couldn't help but frown.

She glanced at her watch; it was already almost 5:30. The next moment, Susan quickly grabbed her bag and prepared to leave work. She needed to hurry to the supermarket to buy groceries; otherwise, it would be hard to prepare four dishes and a soup by dinnertime.

That Seb, with his picky taste, always needed at least four dishes and a soup for a meal. Didn't he know it took at least two hours to make a decent four dishes and a soup?

Despite cursing in her heart, Susan quickly walked out of her office.

"Leaving in a hurry?" Isabella asked, noticing Susan's hasty exit. "It's not even five-thirty yet."

"I have something to do, so I'm leaving a bit early," Susan replied perfunctorily.

"Where are you going? As far as I know, you're alone now," Isabella teased Susan.

Susan knew that if Seb was coming over for dinner, Leon would definitely be free to accompany Isabella.

"Unlike you and Leon, constantly joined at the hip," she countered with a smile, "some of us don't have the luxury of romantic dinners every night."

"I..." Isabella wanted to say something more.

Susan immediately pointed at her and said, "I know you and Leon definitely have a date tonight. Just enjoy it quietly and don't get carried away!"

Without waiting for Isabella to retort, Susan turned and quickly walked out of the office.

"Hmph, as if she's really all alone. Who would believe that?" Susan heard someone muttering in the hallway behind her. She didn't look back and just shook her head with a smile.

Susan ran to the supermarket in one breath, hurriedly bought the groceries, and then called a cab to rush home.

Despite her haste, it was already 6:15 when Susan got home.

Without even wiping the sweat from her forehead, she took off her coat and ran into the kitchen to make dinner.

At 7:00, while Susan was cooking in the kitchen, she heard a noise at the door. She turned around and saw a tall figure walking in and bending down to change shoes.

Without stopping her hands, Susan shouted, "Dinner will be ready in half an hour!"

"Then I'll take a shower first," a deep voice replied, and then there was no more sound.

It was good that he was taking a shower; Susan could focus on cooking.

By 7:30, Susan finally brought the four dishes and a soup, which looked and smelled delicious, to the table.

At this time, Seb, who had finished his shower and changed into pajamas, walked to the dining table and sat down.

When Susan looked up, she saw that Seb was wearing the pajamas she had bought yesterday, and she couldn't help but be stunned!

Noticing Susan's expression, Seb picked up a fork, tasted a bite of the food, and said, "I found these men's pajamas in the closet, and they happen to be my size, so I put them on."

Susan rolled her eyes. 'As if you didn't know,' she thought.

Seb lowered his head and continued eating, completely ignoring Susan.

Susan took a bite of the food and then glanced around, suddenly noticing a bouquet of fresh red roses in the vase on the coffee table in the living room.

Looking at the bright red roses, Susan couldn't help but frown. There was no third person in this house, so she knew Seb must have bought them.

"Did you buy those flowers?" Susan asked Seb calmly.

"Leon said he was buying roses for Isabella, so I asked him to bring me a bouquet too. I thought they would look nice in the house," Seb said casually, meeting Susan's eyes.

Hearing this, Susan felt utterly disgusted.

She had thought he had changed and was giving her a bouquet of roses because she had been taking care of him so diligently these past few days. It seemed she was overthinking it. He had merely asked Leon to buy an extra bouquet, not for her, but to improve the living room's ambiance.

"Oh," Susan responded softly and lowered her head to eat.

That night, Seb had a very good appetite. He finished all four dishes and the soup and still seemed unsatisfied.

Susan ate very little. She had wanted to ask about Andrew's situation today, knowing that today's board meeting must have been exciting.

But Seb didn't even lift his eyes; he just kept eating, so Susan decided not to ask.

After cleaning up the leftovers, Susan heard Seb, who was sitting on the couch, making a work call to his subordinates.

Not wanting to disturb him, Susan quietly walked out of the kitchen, took his shirt and underwear from today, and went to the bathroom to wash them.

His clothes were too expensive to be machine-washed, so Susan had to wash them by hand. By the time she finished, it was already 9:30.

Exhausted and sleepy, Susan yawned as she walked out of the bathroom. She saw that the living room was empty and glanced into the bedroom, finding Seb sitting on the bed, working on his laptop.

Standing there, she carefully observed Seb, who was fully engrossed in his work, and felt a sense of relief.

Despite the significant setback, he hadn't collapsed. Not only had he successfully countered Andrew, but he was also seriously engaged in his work. It could be said that he had never slacked off; his despondency was just an act for others to see.

At this moment, Susan felt a bit sad.

He put on a show for everyone, including her. Even though they had cleared up their misunderstandings, she wasn't the person he trusted the most; she was just a prop in his act.

Susan knew he was forced by circumstances this time. If he didn't act convincingly, outsiders wouldn't believe he was truly giving up. But it still made her uncomfortable.

At this moment, Susan's phone rang on the coffee table.

Susan quickly grabbed her phone and saw that it was Isabella calling.

She immediately answered the call and jokingly said, "Aren't you enjoying your time together? Why are you calling so late?"
